Strike Types

"Strike Types" refers to the different kinds of abilities BattleBob is capable of mid-battle. These abilities are universal in BattleBob and any can technically be performed by any command in the game (`attack, `skill, `assist, `sandwich, etc.) Understanding strike types helps greatly in gaining an understanding of how weapons (among other things) work in BattleBob.

It should be noted that any strike type can inflict status effects if specified to. The target for the status effects depends on the target of the strikes (So Damage would inflict status effects onto the opponent, and Heal would inflict status effects onto the player.) Except for a few exceptions, strike types that effect multiple targets apply their status effects to all of them (So Damage (All) would inflict its status effect onto all players.) Those exceptions are Absorb and Recoil (which only inflicts status effects onto the target, despite also effecting the player.)

List of all Strike Types in BattleBob

Damage: Simply deals damage to the opponent. The Damage strike type is easily the most common strike type in BattleBob and is the most basic strike in the game.

Backfire: Deals damage to the player. The Backfire strike type is fairly rare, being limited mostly to poor quality sandwiches, but can be found on some detrimental weapons and a small number of summons.

Guard Crush: Inflicts Guard Crush if used against a defending opponent. When an opponent is inflicted with Guard Crush, an additional animation unique to the specific strike plays and the defending opponent takes 1.5x damage instead of cutting damage like `defend usually does. A very dangerous strike.

Heal: Restores HP to the player. The Heal strike type is utilized mostly by `sandwich and `assists, but certain weapons and summons may use it as well.

Heal (Target): Restores HP to the opponent. This is a backfiring strike type used very sparingly. Originally developed for the Tenseiga weapon, the strike type has seen some (albeit limited) use in other applications.

Absorb: Deals damage to the opponent, then recovers HP to the player equal to half the damage dealt. This means that if the player deals 10 damage to the opponent with an Absorb Strike, the player will also recover 5 HP. A useful but rare strike type originally developed for the Blood Sword weapon and the Drain skill.

Recoil: Deals damage to the opponent, then deals half that damage to the player as well. This means that if the player does 10 damage to the opponent, the player will also take 5 damage. A rare strike type mostly restricted to particularly powerful weapons.

Throw: Deals damage to the opponent, but afterwords the player loses their equipped weapon. Though the strike type, as the name implies, was originally intended to be used on strikes in which the weapon is thrown at the opponent, the strike type also sees frequent use on other types of powerful strikes as a means of balance.

Consume: Restores HP to the player, but afterwords the player loses their equipped weapon. Works similar to the "Throw" strike type. As the name implies, it was originally intended to be used with edible weapons, but the strike type has seen other creative applications as well.

Transform: Deals damage to the opponent and replaces the player's weapon. This strike type sees frequent use on weapons with multiple forms, dealing damage to the opponent and in the process swapping to alternate versions of the weapons.

Transform (Heal): Restores HP to the player and replaces the player's weapon. This strike type is similar to the "Transform" strike type but sees much less frequent use.

Transform (Recoil): Deals damage to the player and replaces the player's weapon. This strike type is similar to the "Transform" strike type, but sees much less frequent use.

Gender-Bend: Deals damage to the opponent and reverses the pronouns Bob uses to refer to the opponent for the remainder of battle (if the player has their gender set in their profile.) This means for all intents and purposes, if the player is a male, for the remainder of battle they're female, and vice versa. This comical strike type is so far exclusively used by the TG Gun weapon.

Get Weapon: Replaces the player's weapon. This strike type previously was used widely by certain weapons that would allow you to use `focus to access a Get Weapon strike to upgrade it, but this has been almost completely replaced by the weapon upgrade system added in BattleBob Version 4.0. This strike type is still widely used by assists that toss weapons to the player when called.

Disarm: Deals damage to the opponent and replaces the opponent's weapon. This strike is widely used by assists, and certain weapons. While this strike type is almost exclusively used to replace the opponent's weapon to their barehand (effectively disarming them, hence the name) this strike type can reassign the opponent's weapon to anything.

Damage (All): Deals damage to all players on the battlefield. This means that in Standard and Single modes, both players receive damage, and in Double mode all four players receive damage. This strike type is widely used by hostile summons.

Heal (All): Restores HP to all players on the battlefield. This means that in Standard and Single modes, both players are restored HP, and in Double mode all four players are restored HP. Works opposite of the Damage (All) strike type. This strike type is much less commonly used.

Wide Damage: Deals damage to the opponent, and in Double mode also deals damage to the opponent's partner. This strike type is mainly used by skills describing large-scale attacks. In Standard and Single modes, these strikes are nearly impossible to notice, but in Double mode they allow the player to attack the entire enemy team in a single attack.

Wide Heal: Restores HP to the player, and in Double mode also restores HP to the player's partner. This strike type is primarily used by healing skills, allowing the player to heal their entire team in a single turn.

Bare Hand: Upgrades the player's bare hands. This strike is used primarily by body-altering weapons, upgrading the player's bare hands for the duration of battle. These are particularly useful because the player's bare hands being powerful means that they cannot by disarmed by Disarm strikes and can even weild other weapons, with their powerful bare hands to fall back on should they get disarmed or decide to discard their weapon with `rift.

Dud: Does nothing. This strike type is a backfiring strike type used primarily by weak summons. It can neither heal nor damage the opponent.
