Vile I know Magnet Rise is probably smarter what with all the Earthquake users around but I thought that if I needed some sort of counter against stall teams. And since I intend to use Magnezone before I reveal Steelix I can just take my time Cursing and Resting while anyone who got poisoned curses in futility, Steelix can't even be brought down with Toxic or Thunderwave, makes him a perfect wall/curse user. I'll consider it though, but I were to switch Toxic for Magnet Rise I'd also have to switch Substitute for Explosion.
HZ it looks solid, the only thing I'd caution you regarding is save Chandelure and Starmie until you're sure they don't have Pursuit users, it'll eat both of them up.
Ed, yeah we're discussing single typing teams for a sort of gym leaders match. I'd never use an all Steel team unless I knew they opponent was doing a themed team of his own.
Vile, you've got a solid water team on the way, fairly diverse in its secondary typing too. I'm having some issues in selection for my water team, there are by far more water Pokemon that I have to narrow down to 6 than for any other type team. Grass Dark and Steel were crazy easy to pick, but there are just too many good Water types. I have a Swampert that I've converted into a very nice lead, Wish Vaporeon is always great, Belly Drum Salac berry Poliwrath, same Starmie you're running, Slowking, Gyrados, swift swim Kingdra and Kabutops. I think I'm going to have to drop Poliwrath as he's highest risk even if he is high payout. And I'll probably drop Slowking or Starmie as they both fill the same role.
And now a question for anyone. When I'm powerleveling a Pokemon its better to induce evolution early right? I bred and Onix with the nature I want, should I make him a Steelix at level 1? Or is it better to wait a bit?

It depends on the moves you want it to have, really. The only real benefit to evolving later is you get access to Onix's moves, if he's got any that Steelix doesn't. If you miss any of Steelix's moves though the Move Relearner can teach any of Steelix's moves in exchange for a Heart Scale. Stats aren't effected either way though.

Stats are all I really cared about, I already taught it all its moves except Curse through TMs and both Onix and Steelix will learn Curse. I just wondered because Onix has a higher base speed than Steelix, if waiting to evolve it would produce a faster Steelix in the long run. But if its going to balance out automatically I'll just evolve it right away.

Yeah, the stats are automatically adjusted when it evolves. Just Scyther > Scizor, etc.

I came across another idea online for teams, how would people feel about pitting the different generations against one another? Like a team made out of all Kanto pokemon vs a Unova one? Johto vs Sinnoh and such. Maybe include one of that regions starters in your team, try to build the team you played the game with but make a few adjustments for overall stability?
I just made quick gen 1 and 2 teams based on the teams that I used during my first playthrough and the ones I liked the most from that gen.
Venusaur, Starmie, Jolteon, Hitmonchan, Gengar, Dragonite. Feraligater, Ampharos, Espeon, Steelix, Heracross, Tyranitar.
I dunno, I just think it'd be fun to make these teams clash, see which region had the best stuff.

Aaargh, kill it with fire.
So long as this thread has been revived though I came up with a new themed team the other day. I don't know how many of you guys watch "Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia" but I love it and I came up with gen 5 counterparts to the five main characters and tossed in Rickety Cricket to make the team of six. Actually a fairly balanced team too, I'd be interested in trying it out.
Frank the Garbodor Weak Armor/Black Sludge Toxic Spikes, Protect, Stockpile, Venoshock Anyone familiar with Frank Reynolds knows he's the perfect Garbodor, he's short and pudgy, and the guy swims around in garbage despite once being rich and successful. Also he wrestled under the alias "The Garbageman" in the Gang Fights for the Troops. Just works great on him. He's my lead to spread the Toxic Spikes around and to scout with Protect. Weak Armor pretty much guarantees that he'll be able to get down two layers of spikes and Stockpile prevents his defense from dropping too low if I want him to stay in. Finally, Venoshock deals massive damage if the target is already poisoned, so if Frank gets to come back later in the game he's got a very nice STAB at his disposal against anyone on the team that has been suffering from the spikes earlier.
Dennis the Serperior Perversity/leftovers Leaf Storm, Substitute, Glare, Dragon Tail Dennis' defining character attribute is his vanity, he seems a natural fit for the Pokemon formerly known as Smugleaf. And as the character known for his schemes to make girls sleep with him, Perversity sounded like a fitting ability. Dennis' role on the team is my only special sweeper, he's there to Sub up and go to town with Leaf Storm as most Serperiors will do. Then he's got Glare to inflict status in case the Toxic Spikes are removed via Rapid Spin or negated via Levitate or immunity, and Dragon Tail to force some switches against unfavorable matchups and spread the Toxic damage around.
Sweet Dee the Mienshao Regenerator/Life Orb U-Turn, High Jump Kick, Fake Out, Stone Edge Although she is commonly said to look like a bird or some bizzare fish by the other characters, I thought Mienshao fit Dee well. The girl has some fight in her, as shown in episodes like Hundred Dollar Baby and that one where the gang cleans up the homeless on the streets. She likes to unleash some rage, probably because she is more often than not the butt of everyone's jokes - but she keeps coming back for more, hence the Regenerator ability. Sweet Dee is here to scout, revenge kill and mix things up. Fake Out gives some nice free damage each time she comes out, and then she can just U-Turn if she doesn't like the opposing Pokemon. High Jump Kick and Stone Edge give good coverage, and are powered up via Life Orb. And Regenerator negates the Life Orb damage for the most part.
Mac the Braviary Competitive Spirit/Leftovers Free Fall, Protect, Whirlwind, Toxic Mac reminds me of Braviary in his birds of war costume from the Gang Fights for the Troops. And Competitive Spirit works because Mac thinks he's Superman, whenever anyone tells him he can't do something it only makes him more determined to do it. Mac is intended to work with Frank, putting the hurt on anything that's been poisoned. Free Fall inflicts the damage, but it also lets the poison damage build for another turn while allowing Mac to consume the Leftovers. Whirlwind to spread more poison around, scout the team, get rid of possible counters. Protect is self explanitory, and Toxic just in case Frank's spikes are removed or if he wasn't able to spread them for some reason. Mac is here to stall a bit and to outlast the opponent.
Cricket the Durant Hustle/Life Orb Hone Claws, X-Scissor, Iron Head, Sandstorm I was originally going to make the Waitress the sixth member but I couldn't think of a good Pokemon for her to be. Durant isn't widely used but I think he works nicely with Rickety Cricket, who is now a shady street rat. Cricket is my second potential sweeper, getting STABs out of X-Scissor and Iron Head, and a hefty power boost out of Hustle at the cost of some accuracy, which is remedied by Hone Claws which provides accuracy and boosts power even further. So one Hone Claws and Cricket is ready to go off on somebody. Sandstorm is here to be used just before it looks like Cricket is going to die because it sets up for-
Charlie the Excadrill Sand Throw/Leftovers Earthquake, Rock Slide, Brick Break, Swords Dance Charlie is just as filthy as Frank, and I thought since Frank was already crawling through garbage that Charlie should be a ground type and crawl through the dirt. Again, somewhat physically similar being shorter and rounder in appearance. Charlie is my weapon of last resort, because this mole is broken in a sandstorm and usually used with Tyranitar or Hippowdon. But since they aren't on the team the opponent probably won't be expecting Cricket to call a Sandstorm with his dying breath, giving Charlie a free switch in, a Swords Dance, and then three moves capable of tearing into basically whatever Pokemon the opponent may have left. Should be a good game.
And like I said, no obvious type weaknesses, not the best constructed team for sure but I believe it has good synergy and I had a lot of fun making it. I'll probably have to make some more themed teams.

Sounds like you got the same Durant setup as me. Watch out though, one SP attack and he's gone.

Alright I came up with two more themed teams, this time Megaman. Because if you're reading this thread you probably love both Pokemon and Megaman, common.
As a disclaimer, both of these teams probably suck competitively, I just wanted to choose the Pokemon I thought looked most like the character and give them moves that they might use.
MM1 Robot Masters ------------------------------------
Iceman the Frostlass Spikes, Taunt, Destiny Bond, Ice Beam Iceman makes a decent lead with Taunt and Destiny Bond, and Spikes are always good to have up (in addition to being a major theme in MM games.)
Fireman the Infirnape Nasty Plot, Fire Blast, Focus Blast, Vacume Wave He's got fire coming out of his head, its a pretty good match right? I figured I'd make him a special attacker, seemed more fitting for Fireman.
Cutman the Pinsir X-Scissor, Earthquake, Stone Edge, Close Combat Cutman always gave me the most trouble so he gets the most in your face offensive set. Also I couldn't not make him a Pinsir.
Gutsman the Machamp Dynamic Punch, Payback, Thunder Punch, Bullet Punch There are a lot of other fighting Pokemon I could have used, but Machamp was as close a fit as I could find for Gutsman's ass.
Elecman the Raichu Thunderbolt, Focus Blast, Volt Switch, Fake Out Okay, I'm starting to notice a trend here with the gen 1 Pokes, maybe it just felt right that they be representing the origanal Robot Masters. All I can say is Raichu's ears sort of resemble Elecman's helmet.
Bombman the Golem Rock-Blast, Earthquake, Sucker Punch, Explosion I think I hit this one right on the mark.
--------------------------------------------------
MMZ Team
X the Zoroark Flamethrower, Focus Blast, Dark Pulse, Sucker Punch Seemed appropriate that X, as a Zoroark be able to be mistaken for any of his generals and theoretically be able to throw out a wide array of attacks. Zoroark doesn't quite have as diverse a move pool as I'd have liked, but this set has decent type coverage at least. I'm not sure which teammate X ought to disguise himself as however...
Zero the Bisharp Swords Dance, Sucker Punch, Iron Head, Substitute Zero is fittingly enough the sweeper of this team if he's given the chance to set up his Sub and Swords Dance.
Harpuia the Scyther Swords Dance, Aerial Ace, Brick Break, Quick Attack Harpuia fills the roles of backup sweeper and revenge killer via Technician boosted Quick Attack. Again, I thought Scyther a good match both in appearance and abilities for Harpy.
Fefnir the Emboar Flare Blitz, Superpower, Wild Charge, Head Smash All of those moves just sound like Fefnir right? I see him as being a single use Pokemon, give him some kind of gem to boost a single attack and 1HKO anything the other trainer has that is being pesky. Alternatively I could give him a choice item if I think I'll get a chance to bring him out more than once, but with the danger of Stealth Rocks to fire types and his high recoil moves I don't know if that's wise.
Leviathan the Vaporeon Surf, Ice Beam, Wish, Protect Yes, she's one of those Vaporeons. Team needs a medic/defensive wall, most of these Pokemon are pretty frail.
Phantom the Accelgor Spikes, Substitute, U-Turn, Final Gambit Spikes and Substitutes sound like Phantom, but Final Gambit completes this set. I was looking for a Pokemon that carried Explosion but this is even better. Phantom's job is to switch in at every opportunity and lay down as many layers of Spikes as possible, and U-Turn whenever something scary comes out. And like Fefnir, he can destroy threats to the team using his sacrificial Final Gambit, once his task is completed.
Let me know what you guys think of this set, and throw down some themed teams of your own if boredom strikes.
