Hmm, I recently had a craving for a different genre of games since there's nothing much I noticed in the market for PS2 games. So, I decided to purchase the Persona series games, the only ones I could get were Part 3 and 4. So far, playing through them, it's pretty sweet. A simulation game but mingles Square Enix style battle and gameplay, and for background music, instead of the plain old music we har in many games, they've actually got singers to sing lyrics into them. The only creepy part I found was the Western company actors and actresses saying the suffixes "-chan", "-san" and "-senpai". Maybe those of you who played the game have heard of this and may like it, but I tend to find it ... unnatural. For more info on the separate games: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shin_Megami_Tensei:_Persona_3After hearing info of the exension version of Persona 3, I now feel like waiting for it, but oh well, might as well play the current one, though it lacks something the extension version has. Still worht the fun. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shin_Megami_Tensei:_Persona_4Eh, still halfway going through it, should be cool overall. Anyone have extras to share?

I actually own (and beaten) both Persona 3 and 4. And I can agree with what you're saying.
However, with the issue you have with the name suffixes. You have to remember that both these games are set in Japan, so those would be used in everyday speech.

There's more.. <- link Persona 3 was freakin epic.. but the ass quality dub really ruined the game... Damn you Americans and your urge to ruin everything awesome that comes from japan!!! You could have at least left the option to switch back to - TALENTED - Japanese voice actors! Or maybe you could have hired some... like Tony.

Just because it's not in japanese doesn't mean it's bad, the english voice actors did a pretty good job. It's not ass by any means, please don't let your personal preferences allow you to give an unfair judgement, it's how flame wars start.
And on that note: I think it would've been funny to hear Tony be a voice actor for P3, question is, who would he voice? =|

Fuuka: Khoromuaru-chuaan!!
ahem..
English language + butchering of Japanese names AND suffixes... I don't see how ANYONE can disagree if they have any idea how to speak Japanese CORRECTLY. Fuuka and sounds annoying, Aigis'es voice actor tries hard to sound artificial and fails hard.. Ken got ditched as soon as he joined cause his voice made me want to rip my ears off with all the hearing related organs and bury them 6 feet under.. The rest did a good job, except when ever they had to pronounce Japanese. I wrote my last post in hurry so I left out some details, now shut up. D:
And tony has done a few fandubs..

Wow, didn't expect this thread to get a good response. Alright, it's nice to see others around with the hang of the game.
I can enjoy the English dubbing of the game, but I still don't like the suffizes there. For all I know, the cultural references of Japan is helpful, but ... regardless, even if the suffixes are part of Japanese life, I felt it best to read it on subs and not get said by other voices. Still feels unnatural.
Eh, I've been going through the Persona fusion techniques in P4. Still trying to get the hang of it. Though ... I wonder what would be the strongest fusion card ever?

You won't know until you beat the game with the True Ending. Since the strongest Persona can't be fused until your second cycle.

I say if you butcher the english language AND japanese language in one fell swoop by trying to combine the two poorly, that's grounds not to play...
I'm not saying the Persona series is bad or anything, but that stuff is what made it impossible for me to stand the English dub of Azumanga Daioh, and what pissed me off about the dubs of Bleach and Naruto (despite them both being good dubs, the way they pronounce names and Japanese words irritates me to no end.)

I can see how that would be a bit of an irritant, but on that subject. Aren't there some characters in those anime that you mentioned (or others that you haven't) that use the english language (otherwise known as "Engrish") in their dialouge? It's hardly that big of an issue if you watch anime with that display of language differences (or what we call "butchering")
Personally, I don't think it's that big of an issue, hell I hardly even care if the japanese suffixes are in the translation. Mostly because of the reason I stated above, and also cause it doesn't change the story or gameplay any.
But, oh well. The Persona games aren't really for everyone, so I should expect this.

I believe I did point out in my post that those anime that I mentioned mess up the language. In fact, I'm pretty sure that's WHY I mentioned them. And I also pointed out how that's annoying. <.<;
And also like I said. I'm not saying the Persona games are bad. But I am saying that such a blatant disregard for both the English and Japanese languages does effect the gaming experience, which is really what a game is about. It's not just about characters, story, music, graphics, or anything like that. They're all equally important as they all contribute to the experience, which is what determines whether or not a game is good.

Also, in Azumanga they talk engrish for the lulz.. In Persona they seem to think that its a good idea to make the game appeal more to wapanese people... it serves no point other than that.

In other news ... I decided to create a new folder of Persona 4, starting to play it all over again, to see if I have missed the foul-mouthed character Shinji, whoever that is. Played for 4 hours straight, but so far, only went up to just before saving Yukiko.
But, I'm sure HZ might have spotted him somewhere where he recalls.

Wrong game, Fann. Shinji isn't in Persona 4, he's in Persona 3. Play that one if you want to get him.
And I should stop trying to argue about the games, it's only making me look like an ass. So I apologize for that.

Hm. No wonder that character's name sounded odd. I need to post up a reminder for Nightmare - I deleted my Persona 3 folder to focus more on Persona 4.
Eh, anyways, although I did delete my Persona 3 folder as I wanted to focus on Persona 4 and I thought I went by P3 a little blotched, I somehow gets the feeling that the P4 has more action and a happier feel to it than P3. Comment?

Well Persona 3 was made to have a darker feel to it than Persona 4, evidenced by P3's main colors mostly consisting of blues and P4's colors being yellows.
The fact that P3 also had you shooting yourself in the head to summon your Persona was another example of how dark the game is.
