Okay, I come with suggestions to hopefully help ZV a little. Hopefully this may become a "To-Do list"
#1 - Clean up the announcements
It is my opinion that having 5 global announcements on every page is a little unsightly, especially if the topic's purpose has been long since defeated. Unless it's absolutely necessary, I don't think global annnouncements should make up about %10 of the topics. It extends the page and just has to make the user scroll more. It'd be good if those were cleaned up.
#2 - Change in announcement policy
Some things, I believe, shouldn't be announcements. I'll give a few examples: NightmareMMZero's thread about a Fun idea, Bossman's thread about a Hard Drive crash, and of course the blatent promotion of something that would be better listed as a recommended affiliate not an announcement.
Why? In response to #1: I don't think the principal in schools announces that he was going to get lunch, does he? That shouldn't really be an announcement, it should go in the sprites section. And no, if you wanna look like you're doing a good job, don't waste resources like that.
As for Bossman's thread I'm sure that was something catastrophic to him, and of course I am sorry for what happened and hope that everything goes okay, I am a bit wary about it's importance as a global announcement. I think it could've been a sticky in General Discussion for a month before being un-stickied and let loose to fly as a normal thread.
As for the last one... That's why some forums have an "Affiliation" sub-section. Y'know, so where some people may post affiliation with ZV requests, advertising their forum, and such. I don't see a subsection for that here, I only see a Web Programming & such section (obviously Ztrl's doing) but no affilliation\advertising section. That thread really shouldn't be a global announcement, especially since it can just be mentioned in the chat's topic.
#3 - Chatroom Moderation change
Even though I am the head moderator of the chatroom, I feel like I don't even have level 50 access, at least among the staff. I am happy that a temporary moderatorship was enacted, but I still feel restricted from moderating the channel as I see fit. I mean, that if I make a ban on say, a trouble-making member, that ban will be lifted by other moderators a minute afterwards despite my better judgement, which because of their action defeats the purpose of a -temporary- ban, not a momentary ban. Sure bans help with auto-rejoiners.
I've also taken into account how both NMMZ and Xero use their power in times of joking around, though NMMZ much more often than Xero (Xero limits his use of power for gags to 2 people: Craft and HZ. NMMZ just does it on everybody under the notion it's 'awesome.') I don't think the moderation should be acting this way in it's own chatroom, as some people would expect moderators to act in a professional manner. That's not using a kick to prove your point, and then claiming "nuh-uh it was awesome" if you tell them that was a stupid thing to do. I've been tempted to remove NMMZ's power from the chat temporarily because of this repeated abuse, but if I do that I may as well be calling war upon all of ZV.
And to bring up a last point...
#4 - ENOUGH WITH THE POINTLESS BANNING AND KICKING!
I cannot stress this enough. In the chatroom, almost daily at least NMMZ does one thing that really ticks me off: Kicks or bans a person without a just reason. I've already brought up this point but last time I was yelled at for "not being staff" and later on I felt that my right to complain about such a matter was nulled automatically due to my lack of authority in any situation. When I did take the chat by force, NMMZ threatened to revert the ZV chat back to SigmaChat. All because I was trying to do my job as a chat moderator and keep him from doing stupid stuff like that.
Sure it's accepted in Zero Virus, and key phrase there being "in Zero Virus" but when Toy had it happen to him, Toy felt that NMMZ had it out for him, and he still thinks that way today! I also do not appreciate being kicked for saying, oh, I don't know, that Akuma is not as good as Ken, or that orange is a better color than purple. I could rail on everybody if I wanted to, but I won't because I'm a friend of the community and a long-time member, and I know the moderation, who are around the same age of membership as I am, would absolutely hate for me to suddenly lash out at all of ZV. Such a motion would get me banned for sure.
Last one before I quit, is why do we have to kick people out of the channel if they're not registered at ZV? I've already yelled at Nightmare a few times for kicking someone who was probably AFK out of the channel because they weren't "A member of Zero Virus" well guess what, the channel was created for the board and you put it on a public IRC network so expect outsiders to wander in. I'd rather #ZeroVirus work with each other, like BnG's channels do. AND BEFORE YOU GO SAYING BNG SUCKS, I AM MERELY MAKING A POINT!!. Their IRC channel, which is a world of it's own, links to the main page of BnG. The page also links to the IRC channel. You don't have to be a specific member of the community to be a part of BnG's IRC.
I believe the moderators of the IRC channel shouldn't discriminate upon the rights and views of people who may be unrelated to the forum, as they are entitled to their opinion and those are, of course, their views and opinions. I've spoken to multiple non-ZVers, and since I got enough of the same reaction I decided to bring it up here. I'd rather not be a member of an anarchy.
Go ahead, tell me Zero Virus is "different". I'll reply that you're full of crap because Zero Virus is different in that neo-liberal kind of way, when it should be different in that "It'll be around forever!" way. All I'm asking is that Zero Virus make these changes so that hopefully there will be another way of getting new members to the forum or chat.
Please do take into consideration what I have mentioned today. And yes, I will admit that I made some personal attacks against NMMZ. After all, two of the threads mentioned above ARE his and as such both are as of the time of this post still global announcements.
