Well detailing some of the more interesting things of the Nintendo Direct... First off, every stage having a "Final Destination" mode? That's pretty ingenious. I mean granted it'd be pretty cool if tourney tards would actually play other stages, but this is a nice way to cater to them and extend the Smash Bros experience to everyone. Called the Zelda/Sheik thing, Zelda's down+B has been replaced by the phantom armor from Spirit Tracks, which acts both as an offensive and defensive move. A little disappointed she can't change into Sheik, but Sheik returns as a standalone character with a couple of new moves herself (a timed grenade move that it looks like you can aim, and a ranged flip move that seems to kick enemies away akin to Diddy's side+B) Similarly, Zero Suit Samus has been moved to her own character slot, and she looks more badass than ever. I'm excited to see how she plays. We got some insight on the new characters, Wii Fit Trainer has a buffing move, the Villager's Final Smash builds and destroys a house over a target, Rosalina looks like an incredibly complex and difficult to master character but seems like she'd be beastly in the right hands. Only new thing we saw from MegaMan was his Final Smash, which is neat albeit somewhat lazy (seems more like a jab at Capcom's mistreatment of MegaMan than a Final Smash, but oh well, it's cool to see X and Trigger in Smash Bros.) Little Mac is as deadly as we all feared if not moreso, but it seems he's only threatening on the ground, so anybody that can force him into the air would have an advantage. A lot of characters look like they got overhauls, some moreso than others (Pit being a more drastic one with most of his specials replaced) but there's too many little changes for me to list off in this post. The things I'm most excited about are first off the new game mode (which is unfortunately a 3DS version exclusive) that includes a dungeon-crawler like setup where players are dropped into an enemy-infested multi-room dungeon and have to traverse it to collect powerups that they'll use in the insuing battle that takes place after the time runs out. Second of all (and most of all) this was the highlight of the Nintendo Direct as far as I'm concerned; customizable movesets. We saw a little bit of Mario experimenting with different styles of fireballs and an altered super jump punch, as well as Kirby using his ice breath attack. It seems like this version of Smash Bros will set characters up with several more specials than they already have (or possibly just variations of their existing moves.) This should allow us to make the perfect characters suited to our specific tastes, thus eliminating some of the bitching (hopefully) that'll likely come from people upset that there were some changes to the game... I imagine there'll be nice little tweaks like say Link may have a melee styled boomerang and the Gale Boomerang to choose from, for example. Little things like that can go a long way to making this the greatest Smash Bros yet. And seeing as the release dates are apparently this summer (for the 3DS version) and around Christmas time (for the Wii U version) we should be seeing this pretty soon.

Not exactly news, but still something pretty cool. Over a gig of screen shots has been released. There might be some interesting information hiding out in some of them... I don't know, I haven't looked at even half of them yet. Of course, I could of found some already if I actually spent time actually looking instead of just thinking up silly captions.

We got some new info from the Pic of the Day again. Tether recoveries now have more range and multiple characters can tether to the same ledge.
Along with this, there was also the announcement that Nintendo will hosting a Smash Bros tournament in LA during E3. And for all those who won't be able to make it, there will be playable demos of Smash Bros at Best Buy stores.

Gonna drop a little analysis info nonsense here for ya'll cause there ain't much else going on in this thread.
Something that was being discussed in the chat today was these supposed leaked images of the Best Buy demo's roster. Keep in mind we don't know if these are legit or not.
Exhibit A Exhibit B
Between these two images, I count 3 rows of 17 columns for the roster (considering the boundries of the screen, there's no reason to assume there's more than that) Bringing us to 51 slots.
Now let's consider there was 36 slots on Brawl's screen, including a "Random" slot. That's 50 characters. Let's assume for a minute that not only will the new Smash Bros also feature a "Random" slot, but that all fighters from Brawl will be returning unless otherwise stated.
Now we know Snake is being cut and that the Pokemon Trainer is being replaced with just straight up Charizard. That gives us 34 characters. Add in Shiek and Zero Suit Samus as their own characters, that brings us up to 36.
Now if we count our newcomers; Villager, Wii Fit Trainer, MegaMan, Rosalina, Little Mac, and Greninja, that brings us up to 42.
Based on this, if we assume everyone else is coming back from Brawl, and that there will be a "Random" slot on the menu, that leaves us with 8 unannounced newcomers.
HAPPY SPECULATING.

Based on this, if we assume everyone else is coming back from Brawl, and that there will be a "Random" slot on the menu, that leaves us with 8 unannounced newcomers. And I have some prediction about these newcomers... mainly, who I think four of them will be. - Chrom. With Ike returning, it's pretty much guaranteed that we're gonna get a third Fire Emblem rep. But why Chrom and not, let's say... Roy? Well, Chrom is the main character of Awakening, the most recent game in the series. I think that's a good enough reason as any.
- Palutena. We all know how Sakurai loves his own works. And because he was the man behind Kid Icarus Uprising, I'm sure he's gonna add a character from that. And Palutena is a fairly major character in the game. Magnus, I guess, could also be possible... but he really don't play as big of roll.
- Shulk. I'm kinda a bit iffy on this character. I only think he's likely due to the popularity of Xenoblade... but I'm not really sure that alone is enough.
- Some Namco character. They're co-developing the game... it's gonna happen.

Battleship Halberd is confirmed as making a return as a playable stage. Regarding Ike, I wasn't sure that he would be back, I'd assumed that he would be replaced by Chrom. Now since that hasn't happened, I think it less likely that Chrom will be appearing, as he's somewhere in between Marth and Ike's fighting styles, a medium to their light and heavy style of sword-play. It could still happen, but I'm still holding out for the Awakening Avatar, who could use swords as well as magic. And since they have both male and female Villagers, as well as both genders for the Wii-Fit Trainer, I think this could easily happen. Palutena I could see. I don't know anything about Shulk but the internet seems to be clamoring for him as much as it did for Geno on the onset of Brawl... If Namco gets a character I just hope its not Pac-Man... I'm not sure who else they could use as a fighter though. Maybe Lloyd Irving. The King of All Cosmos should be an assist trophy. As far as my speculation regarding the possible 8 newcomers, I've got some guesses. 1. Ghirahim. Zelda needs a new villain, and I think he fits better than Vaati. And Skull Kid is confirmed as an Assist Trophy. Link still looks like he's the Twilight Princess version, I was hoping they'd swap to his Skyward Sword model, that game needs a representative. 2. Dixie Kong. I can easily see the DK series getting another fighter, and as she was recently in Tropical Freeze, and the third playable Kong in the series, it'd most likely be her. 3. Issac. He was not shown in the Nintendo Direct where they showcased many of the old assist trophies and some of the new ones. This makes me hopeful that he will be promoted from a trophy to a fighter. 4. Mewtwo. I feel like he'll make a return, he is by far the most requested returning fighter and Nintendo knows it. 5. Rundas. Though not particularly likely, Metroid needs another fighter. Ridley is all but confirmed to be a boss again, Mother Brain and Dark Samus are both assist trophies. I'd like to see another bounty hunter from Metroid, and Rundas would be my pick, though Noxus or Sylux are just as likely. Other possible contenders are Krystal and Paper Mario, and another F-Zero representative. Then there's Bayonetta. Lots of speculation on the internet about her, especially since Bayonetta 2 will be a Wii-U exclusive. I think she is less likely, simply because her game is geared for more mature audiences, given that many of her abilities involve taking her clothes off. Also guns, Nintento doesn't like guns. Snake was forced to make due with grenades, because explosives are okay, but not guns for some reason. But she's worth mentioning I guess. In other Smash news, Nintendo is holding a contest of sorts e3.nintendo.com/invitational/rules.htmlZV should collectively make me a video so I can beat whomever wins that tournament for the glory of Megaman fans everywhere.

I figure it may help in the speculation so I'll post the leaked screens again (along with a third one) and discuss a theory Xero presented in the chat last night. Exhibit AExhibit BExhibit CXero's theory relies on paying close attention to the layout of the characters. He says that he thinks that like characters will be grouped together on the select screen and that we may be able to use this to predict new characters. And looking at the layout closely that seems likely. (also note in Exhibit C, we can see cut off the side next to Pit a selected character whose name ends in a "Y" and apparently has the Metroid Logo, looking near the bottom of the screen. And the positioning puts this character in the Metroid section, breathing new life into the playable Ridley theory.) Based on this, we can possibly assume the roster will be something like... Mario | Luigi | Peach | ??? Mario Rep (Rosalina?) | ??? Mario Rep (Bowser?) | Yoshi | ??? Mario Rep (Wario?) | Donkey Kong | ??? DK Rep (Diddy?) | ??? DK Rep | Kirby | King Dedede | ??? Kirby Rep (Meta Knight?) | Fox | ??? Star Fox Rep (Falco?) | ????? | ????? | Link | Zelda | ??? Zelda Rep (Sheik?) | ??? Zelda Rep (Toon Link?) | ??? Zelda Rep (Ganondorf?) | Samus | ??? Metroid Rep (Zero Suit Samus?) | ??? Metroid Rep (Ridley?) | Pit | ??? Kid Icarus Rep | Villager | ????? | ????? | ????? | ????? | Little Mac | ????? | Pikachu | Charizard | Lucario | ??? Pokemon Rep (Jigglypuff?) | ??? Pokemon Rep (Greninja?) | ??? Pokemon Rep | Marth | ??? Fire Emblem Rep (Ike?) | ????? | ????? | ????? | Wii Fit Trainer | ????? | Sonic | MegaMan | ??? Third Party Rep? | Random Space |
With Olimar and most definitely Captain Falcon and Ness falling in some of those random spaces, with Lucas likely next to Ness.

And with that... I have a pretty decent excuse to post this. My predictions as to what the final roster may end up looking like.

Really, its only 2 days? When they announced this I figured they'd just have a demo open for anyone to walk up and use during the week of E3. Doing it this way will ensure that no one gets to play the game as long as they would like, probably one round and you'll be kicked to the end of a line that extends out the door. I don't understand why they'd only have it out for five hours, why can't they just leave it out all day? There's no good reason why they need to disconnect the system and lock it up in the back after 5pm...
I'm also surprised by how few Best Buys will have the demo, sorry to hear that you won't have access to one Tony. There are only 2 stores in my state, but I'll be able to make it to one of them, let you know how it is, see if we can get more information about the character roster as well.

Hm. There's one a town over from where I live. A bit of a drive for the weekend but not much farther from where I drive to school on weekdays.
Might check it out. But like Swim said, probably will be waiting in line for an hour just to play one round, may not be worth it. Maybe if Ed wants to go we can make a thing out of it. That's sorta disappointing but I guess if they want to keep it all elusive I can see why they'd do it (not that I agree with it, I'd rather they just leave the game out and let people play it...)

It seems one will be close for me as well. Though I'd rather be driving all the way to Springdale to buy it, not just play a 5 minute round.

There's one about an hour away from me with the demo. If I can find someone to go with me I'm definitely going.

(posted this elsewhere might as well post here)
Well, they announced who is going. Kinda bigger names in the competitive scene so that’s kinda cool. The announcers are also fairly popular in the smash community so good on you Nintendo.
I know I shouldn’t be miffed cause loltourneyruleslolnoitemsfoxonlyfinald, but 4 for all, all items make me kinda sad (though it’s cool nintendo is doing this at all because they didn’t have to), at least the grand finals will be 1v1 no items. It always feels like when a 4 for all happens 2-3 people are going to team up on 1-2 others whilst ignoring your team mate(s) until the very end. I do like how each player can only pick 1 character so there won’t be any doubles of a character. Which means we will at least see 16 different characters out of the 20 possible.
Characters probably available at the Best Buy demo(confrimed from invitational video?) Little Mac, Zero Suit Samus, Bowser, Wii fit trainer, Marth, Megaman, Pit, Villager, Pikachu, Mario, Link, Kirby, Samus, Rosalina, Sonic, Donkey Kong, Greninja, Olimar, Zelda, Fox.
