Okay to dissect that trailer:
Glad Falcon got confirmed finally so all the nerds can stop worrying about him. Shame we didn't get to see any gameplay of him showing his moves, I hope he returns to the level of awesomeness he was in Melee rather than the joke from Brawl. The only thing we can confirm right now is that his Final Smash will once again be Falcon Drunk Driving.
Lucina... she looks exactly like Marth. Only Marth looks more feminine than she does. But their moves look so similar I'm upset that they gave her a character slot when she could've just been an alt costume for Marth. I didn't want Chrom, but at least he would've struck a balance between Marth's speed and Ike's power. But it looks like Chrom will get stuck being Avatar's (Robin) Final Smash.
The Awakening Avatar, Tactician, (Robin) really stole the show here. I'm sad because this probably means I won't get Isaac, too many sword users now, but at the same time the Tactician looks close to what I wanted, some kind of magic using swordsman. It'll be interesting to see how his Tomes work, it sounds like he discards them after a set number of uses. Do they replenish every stock? How will his moveset change after he runs out of magic? After Palutena, he's probably the new character I want to try most (excepting Megaman as I've gotten to play him already).
I kind of like how Nintendo is making the characters more customizable, they're really trying to get the female gamers on board making so many of the characters available in both genders. Now there's the Tactician, the Villager, Fit Trainer and the Mii Fighters.

From my observations it doesn't look like Lucina is a new character, per se... I mean, yeah, she did get her own little newcomer pic, but observing her she looks like she might just be a reskin of Marth (similar to Robin, the Villager, and the Wii Fit Trainer.) Her specials look the same, her A-Moves look the same, her idle animations look the same... I think she'll just be an alternate version of Marth. And if that's the case we may see a lot of clones mitigated to such a thing, just reskins of characters with different voices. I can see Fox and Falco working that way (and just giving Falco's B moves to Fox as customizable alternate specials.)
As for Robin, not what I was expecting at all but I'm pleased. He looks fun, and from the looks of it he may be in the same boat as Palutena and the Mii fighters and may have a wide variety of specials to choose from. I'm not really familiar with any Fire Emblem characters (have never played any of the games) so I can't say I'm terribly disappointed in Chrom being shamed or these other inclusions.
And yes cool Captain Falcon, what about Ness and Lucas brah.

In some Fire Emblem characters you just direct the characters movements across the map but in others you are actually a character in the game, the Tactician, and actually participate in the cutscenes and have dialogue with the characters. They traditionally defer to your direction as strategist for the army, however in Awakening your character is actually a playable unit for once, and you have the option to customize them to your liking, raise their attack but lower their speed and whatnot. The Tactician is also notable in that you have the option to use weapons and magic, whereas most Fire Emblem characters specialize in one weapon like a sword, lance, axe or bow. Every Fire Emblem character in Smash has been a sword user, and several other characters have also used swords, so we've been wanting one of the Fire Emblem characters like Hector or Ephriam to come and bring a different weapon and attack style. A battle mage is great, its really something we've wanted to see but I didn't think they'd actually do it.

While I don't really blame you for drawing such a conclusion... as, from what we've seen, the do look very similar... I don't think it's right. A lot of people have been noticing that there are some slight differences between the two of them... mainly in some small differences in some of the animations and the fact that some of her moves seem to have different properties than Marth's. I think that she's probably a character added in at the last minute because there was still some time to do so, but was made a clone because their wasn't enough time to give her a completely unique moveset... similar to Roy in Melee. And while that would kinda suck because we're getting a clone, I have to admit... it does kinda fit. Lucina did spend a good part of Awakening's story pretending to be Marth... so it makes sense for the character. And I think it's better outcome than her just being a skin for Marth.

While it's still too early to say I'm gonna have to counter disagree with you on the grounds that we haven't seen a solid example of Marth's gameplay in this new game. Any subtle differences you're noticing can easily be on Marth as well. Assuming there are actual differences, and you and/or whatever nerds you're hearing that from are crazy.
I'll be incredibly disappointed if her and Marth are clones and they wasted a character slot on her. I don't care if she pretends to be Marth in the game, or how much or how little time Sakurai had to try and halfass in another character, if she's a subtle tweak and nothing more it's a huge waste and incredibly stupid.
I don't think being a reskin of Marth would unglorify her considering the circumstances. And I think it would be a good way to legitimatize a lot of clones. And considering they're doing it with Robin (even if it is just a genderbend) I think it's likely we'll see this with more characters.

Just confirmed via PotD, Lucina is NOT an alternate skin for Marth. "Her physical ablilites are identical to Marth's--it must be in her D.N.A. However, where Marth's power is concentrated in the tip of the sword, Lucina's attack strength is balanced throughout the weapon, which might make her easier to control. She's also a little bit shorter than Marth."Also... That insane level of detail! (Note: It's the left eye)

That's disappointing I guess. I'm not really MAD that she's her own character slot, but I feel like the fact that she's a blatant clone and is hogging her own spot suddenly calls her legitimacy into question (I was totally cool with her when I thought she was just a reskin of Marth.)
The only way this would be offensive though is if they cut somebody who was more original and more interesting in favor of a character who is literally just Marth except a girl who's missing the mechanic that makes playing as Marth interesting.

They explained that Lucina does have essentially the same move set as Marth (with slight differences) but she is faster then Marth, and where Marth is strong when you hit someone with the tip of your blade, Lucina is strong throughout the sword. So Marth is more of a specific zoning character and Lucina is just an all around rush-y down character. At least I would think.

Speaking of Pic of the Day: Look at Beat. Look at how smug he looks. That's because Rush Coil doesn't offer as much recovery as this trucking bird. I hope its as broken as Pit's angel wings were. Slightly less awesome, but still cool, is the ability to swap Woodman's power for Plantman's. You get a shield weapon in virtually every game, it'd be cool if you could swap interchangeably between leaves, plants, rocks, ice, junk and whatever else Mega got from the Robot Masters. Now I don't know if this is simply a cosmetic change, or an alternative special move (B) variation like trading Rush for Beat. Leaf Shield and Plant Shield work the same in the old games, but I wonder if they'll have slightly different effects here, even if its a slight difference in durability, damage or throw speed. Really excited to see them add all these little touches to Megaman, it really makes me think the Smash devs love Mega the way we do, and they're going the extra mile for us fans.
