LOOK I CHANGED THE TITELLLL
All OOC chatter, suggestions, etc, go here. I LOVE SUGGESTIONS. BURY ME IN THEM.
Official RP thread here: CLICKYOld post was this:
This is something I have been wanting to do for a long while. I mentioned it a long time ago, but never totally fleshed it out/thought nobody would wanna participate so I dropped it. But like....what's life without trying lol.
Who would be interested in a forum-based RP, with a revival of sorts of our old DBZV characters sort of? I mean, not entirely, because we could have a bit more structure than that one had, but I'd want to also be sure it would be more open than the chat RP and more adaptable to whatever your character is/was.
It could be super chill (being forum-based) and we would not need set times to do anything, we could just reply to posts whenever basically. So it wouldn't be a giant obligation for busy peoples, and anybody could participate.
I have ran a forum RP before and I have ways to do this. Generally I would like to keep everyone all in one storyline/area, but if we needed to branch off for things (different groups doing different things, different fights, areas, etc) these could be split in to separate posts (and then all shoved together once arcs are completed).
As for the story, I could handle that myself using Silver's past of sorts. I have a pretty detailed story world for all that. I already have ideas. But i would also like it to be like how our old RPs were and let others take control of storyline arcs as well if they wanted to. I could write up some basic (or complex, you guys pick lol) world lore to make that easier and to make things slightly more structured and all fit in with each other as well.
As for the RP itself, we will have: -somewhat set races (but we can discuss things and make sure there is a race for all of your characters to fit in with) -a fantasy-type world, with limited high technology in a few cities (guns, lightsaber type swords, etc), mostly based on magic -and a fresh start, no continuation of our old RP, but with the same chars (or different ones if you want to use something new?)
Thoughts? I can elaborate further on a story if anybody wants.

I'd have to think about what character I'd put in here (probably wouldn't use Reploid Rion now that Rion's got a much more developed 'version' thanks to FFZV), but I've been doing forum stuff on Gaia for ages; I'd be down for something where folks could drop posts without having to wait for the weekends.

I'm not much of a forum Roleplayer, never have been. But I'd be open-minded to seeing what kind of setting everyone developed and consider dropping in somehow if it seemed interesting.
In general I think it's a good idea though. We have a lot of people on ZV who would like to RP with us, but can't really jump into the current chatroom RP either because they can't be consistently available on the weekends, or because the setting and lore have gotten too big and complex so that the learning curve for joining is way too steep (Final Fantasy ZV is past the 7 year mark now, if you can believe it lol). Doing this would give them the proper outlet for some of that creative energy.

I need at least some people that will participate for sure. I'm gonna draft out something tonight. I have a pretty strong basis thought up already that should work. For races, please talk to me on chat for what kind of character you want in this and we can make a race for you if it won't fit any of the races I make up. I dont like forum RP as much either, but we can structure this differently and not do heavy para-rp. Just whatever people are comfortable with is fine with me. Gonna steer away from the reploid thing also. Too much to cram in to one world lol.

I am definitely a lot happier about a forum based RP, means I should actually be able to participate.

I haven't really participated in an RP before, at least not that I know/aware of, and I may give it a try. I do think it's a good idea to be able to participate in our own time. The reason I haven't participated in an RP before, other than I'm alien to maybe 90% of ZV and don't know how things work, is the timezone difference.
So, I think the idea's good, the premise of the RP's good, sad that there's nothing I could add to that.
Now, since it will be based on the forum, does it have to be all text? or once in a while or if we feel like it, we can illustrate the scenario instead? It doesn't have to be a full artwork, it could be just a sprite comic panel, that way maybe we can get people into spriting again, or at least do some art practices.

I am going full text for this, because I think illustrating could potentially bring in powerplay and such, but if people want to illustrate things/events on the side after they occur I think that would be extremely cool and I would encourage it highly. I would include such illustrations in my story arc summary page as well; visualizations make things far more interesting! You are welcome to join in! You can watch for awhile to get a feel for things first if you like. RP can be as simple or as complex as you want. Oh, if you want to try RPing as a trial run first before getting in to one, you can PM me and we can do a 1 on 1 sort of small thing if you feel you need to get the hang of things~

I have a couple of suggestions that you can either take or leave.
First off is a possible race suggestion. Since you added the Bestia as a race on your thing, and your story outline has a lot of emphasis on magic, you could include the Phasma as a possible race maybe?
The Phasma, like the Bestia, originate from Nexus' native story and are an otherworldly race that existed alongside the Bestia in their original homeworld. Phasma are basically elemental spirits (to put them in simplest terms.) They're magical beings who literally embody the elements they're associated with. Like the Bestia, they have a tribal culture and typically stick with Phasma of the same elements (as halfbreeds among different elemental Phasma can sometimes lead to complications, since their elemental properties may be incompatible and it could disrupt their ability to manifest in a physical form.) They basically look human, with the exception of pointy ears (so I guess at first glance they'd look like elves in your setting? Might consider giving them some sort of other unique physical characteristic to differentiate them if you want.) But they can conjure and control their element, as well as literally become it. Because of that though it makes them highly susceptible to magic of opposing elements (so a fire Phasma pelted by water would hurt them and make them unable to shift to their elemental form out of risk of being extinguished.)
Dunno if that's something you'd wanna include or not. They can be kinda broken if done right, which is largely why they barely exist in FFZV. If that's a concept that interests you or anyone else looking to play though, I think it could be neat.
The other suggestion would be to come up with a stronger definition of the level of technological advancement for this setting. I get that you wanna be flexible but like, you should define it stronger just so people playing know what sort of things are okay and what sort of things are not. Like is it modern? Or futuristic? Are you excluding reploids specifically because they're from the MegaMan Universe, or are all highly-intelligent and human-like androids excluded? Do beam sabers set the standard for technological advancement and imply Star Wars level technology? Or are beam sabers based more on magic and you need to be a mage to properly wield one? All things worth considering and answering I'd think. Would make it easier for people looking to play a human or any other character that utilizes technology.
Overall I think you got a good concept and I'm interested to see what you do with it and how much attention this gets.

Thank you I think that race will fit in well and I am going to stick them in, using your description pretty much since it just suits stuff well lol, and I trust people here to not be over-powered silly nillys. I'll work on all that you mentioned tomorrow. You have good points. Need to sleep for now, will be adding a bit in tomorrow before I start things off. Thank you I need good suggestions like this

Also; we need people! The nice thing about getting in on the ground floor like this is it allows for folks to put ideas together for world-building!
I'm thinking of maybe making a Discord group for the folks interested in doing this to make communication easier for bouncing ideas and stuff. Who wants in? O:

We already have a ZV Discord channel that gets fairly limited usage. We could make a new text channel for this RP if more people seem interested (currently the General Chat is our Discord's only text channel, but this would be a good reason to add another, just to keep the discussion focused and relevant.)

Yeah that was the big reason I wasn't so keen on just using the ZV one, but if we do get enough people to set up a separate text channel that would be cool.
