Vile's sword caught flame instead of elf, as the man quickly performed a backstep in light of Alriik's interference. "Hmph." He grunted, and, despite being on guard, could not account for Terra's surprise attack. He took the flaming tackle to the side hard, but managed to brush off the worst of the damage, as he was forced back from the series of explosions, then yet again as a chunk of ice slammed from above down to where he'd moved back to, he was definitely pushed back. They were at least coordinated, he thought.
"I remember you. You're that comatose elf covered in swords, and you, the girl with nothing to be shy about." He smirked. "I wouldn't call the dread pirate and myself friends, more like acquaintances, but that's not important right now is it?" He said, flicking his blade down and swinging back up, firing a large bolt of electrical energy at the three of them. "As for that battle.. have to keep up appearances, you know?" He spied Rion coming up short and unprepared, and made his move. While the others were distracted with his lightning bolt, he darted forward and kicked Rion square in the chest, hurtling the light mage off his feet. With Rion tossed aside, he flicked away at lightning speed toward Aqua, clotheslining the elf girl as she charged an ice spell and knocked her down as well. Aqua skidded on the ground as her conjurations fell to particles in her hand. Vile zipped around again, and this time swung his sword wide at Alriik and Terra, aiming to cut them both down.

Terra dove aside as bolt of lightning ripped through the streets where she and Alriik had been standing just moments before. She wiped away the dirt from her face and balled her hands into fists as she picked herself up. Vile thought he had the measure of her did he? This creep was about to learn just how much she'd been held back by fighting on the water. "You haven't even seen half of what I can do" she thought angrily, watching as the scoundrel zipped around and attacked Rion and Frida in quick succession. Vile was much faster than any of her friends, that was his advantage. That was what she'd have to take away from him.
Vile had turned around and was now bearing down on Alrrik and Terra, electricity crackling from his legs as he charged in with his blade ready to strike. Terra feigned a defensive stance signaling her intention to block his blow but at the last moment she stamped her foot down on the street, shifting the earth below and causing the lightning mage to stumble. While he was off balance Terra easily pivoted around Vile's sword and delivered a spinning kick to the back of his head as he passed by.
While Vile lay sprawled in the street Terra knelt down and pushed her fingers between the grooves in the individual stones finding handholds. She grunted with strain as she began to stand, raising a large section of the road with her. She hated to damage such immaculate craftsmanship but she'd make amends with the builders later. Frida's prison of ice hadn't been enough to keep the lightning mage pinned down, maybe earth would fare a little better. With a final cry of rage Terra flipped the section of the street over intending to bury the lightning mage.

Vile stumbled as the ground shifted, unaware Terra boasted earth magic atop her fire. He had, without fail, put his own foot in his mouth. Though he wasn't without experience, sparring against his ex captain whom was an earth mage himself. He was quick to anticipate the follow-up attack, lowering his head and barreling forward, just narrowly ducking Terra's kick. However, he was not quick enough to recover on the shaking earth before the slab of street and rock fell on him though, slamming him down against the ground.
Vile braced himself as best he could, but he was caught awkwardly between the street and the slab, knocking his hips and his knees with most of the weight. If her intention was to slow him down, she scored a point, but it alone wouldn't be enough. With his sword, still wreathed in lightning, he pulled it close to himself and expelled the lightning with great force, blasting the rock apart and shattering the slab. From behind his saber, he looked at Terra with a stern frown, before electricity crackled around him and coated his saber again. With a stab forward, the lightning shot forward at the earth mage, who, was getting tackled to the ground by the one Frida Nyharllothor to avoid the blast, which shattered a far off carriage currently uninhabited. Vile looked at the carriage, and then the others.
"Ooh. Uh. I know that that looks pretty bad, given current circumstance, but like I said before, not the one who did it." He said. Aqua's brow furrowed as she blasted a barrage of icicles from her hand at Vile, who chopped them away as they came in range.
"You talk too much!!" Aqua shouted, blasting at Vile with a thick chunk of ice, which he avoided by jumping high into the air and back. "And are too strange! Why would you run!? Why would you be here!? Tell me!!" Aqua shouted, feeling the same rage she felt during her confrontation with Calico overcoming her senses. The man was able to zip around the icicles she fired at him, as well as avoid her attempts to slip him up by slicking the stones with ice, as he had learned to watch his step with Terra's attack.

As Terra leapt away, Alriik quickly braced behind his greatsword, the lightning catching the blade and sputtering outward as Alriik attempted to dispel it. He'd freeze in place, muscles tightening, hair raising, before it finally calmed. He'd take a deep breath, curse under his breath, then pull Shirosame loose from his belt and toss it to Rion. “Guys… I think Sparky here is a red herring. And I think Cap is a little too emotional to listen to reason. And we need to catch him anyway because he's a traitor. Cap'd notice if me or Terra weren’t at her side at her moment of need, but Rion… Please go find the actual murderer.” He'd look to Terra. “And let's try not to kill the bastard. We need answers. I'll distract, you bag.” He'd return his second hand to his greatsword as he bolted down the street at the pink haired fiend.
As he neared the battle between Aqua and Vile, Alriik would grip the blade of Angelheart tightly, as a whirlwind began to form around the blade. He would slam the blade into the ground before hopping onto the hilt and letting the wind charge loose, sending him and the blade high into the air. “ARNE STYLE!” As he tumbled through the air, the sheer exhilaration of such a daunting move got to him. A wide smile crossed his face. This was why Arne fought this way. As he soared above the height of a third story building, his momentum would falter, and in the moment where gravity meant nothing, he caught the zweihander and returned it to his back. All he had to do was stick the landing…
As he began to fall, he would begin to dive, straight at Vile. He'd draw his dragon fangs, and held them at his sides as he honed in like at Vile like a hawk. “SILVER LANCE!” As he neared the ground, he would swing the blades at the ground that was, if he aimed right, right at the archmage's feet. The swing would loose a powerful gust of air, causing a bellowing wave that would crash against the ground and send those nearby reeling. Alriik had accounted for it sending him back, for some kind of cool landing, to seal the moment. What happened was Alriik would be sent tumbling away at the stunt, bouncing against the ground hard, twice, before catching himself and rolling to a stop.
… He just hoped his distraction was enough for Terra to do something smarter.

"I'm not going to kill him," Terra called back in response to Alriik, "I just don't think he needs all his limbs working in order to answer our questions. But it's ultimately his choice, what do you say Vile, want to drop that saber and come quietly?"
In response lightning surged at Terra from the tip of Vile's blade, she only avoided the attack thanks to Frida tackling her to the ground. Vile was too dangerous for her not to go all out, he sure wasn't pulling his punches with them. If they gave him even a slight opening it could be fatal. Frida must have had the same thought and began launching icicles at Vile with renewed vigor. While he was on the defensive Alriik came soaring in and loosed a galeforce wind attack with his dragons teeth. Terra stepped in front of Frida and dug her heels into the earth to brace herself as the wild howled around them. She squinted trying to make sense of what was going on, it seemed like Alriik her been knocked away by the force of his own attack.
He must be winded by now Terra thought. She dropped to her knees and slammed both fists into the earth, calling up two stone walls on either side of Vile and forced them together intent on crushing the lightning mage.

Vile's thoughts were racing now, with the battle stretching on. He wasn't here to make an enemy out of these people, but here he was blasting them with attack after attack. It was self-defense, sure, but he had it in him to turn and run away from this. It was time to start looking for a way out, before things started getting ugly.
From above, he heard Alriik screeching as he flew down from above. Vile was not surprised by the attack as he had been hit by Terra the same way before, but by the man's shouts. Was he really doing something childish like naming his attacks? Vile braced himself against the wind, but was pushed back and thrown hard against a wall of bricks. He audibly grunted as his body thudded, and slid down as the winds faded. Vile took a step forward, but just as the lightning augmentation was about to kick in, Terra's stone walls rose up beside him and tried to crush him. Not to be outshined, Vile kicked hard against the ground, sending him flying upward much like Alriik had, above the walls as they slammed inward. Vile spun and caught himself on the outer metal chimney of the building he'd been thrown against, and with electricity flowing through his hand, seemed to spin upward around it until he rested at the top of the stack.
He had to admit it. They were strong. They were organized. They were beginning to piss him off. He though of Tyven telling him to keep a low profile, that maybe he'd be able to start a new life here in The Frontier, but he wasn't sure that could happen now. Utilizing archmagic here would certainly win him this battle, but he didn't need to use it to slay them. He could use it to escape too, though archmagic wasn't to be used lightly.
Vile stood still atop the chimney as a ring of energy appeared around him, crackling. Runes and glyphs began to appear in the air around him, and high above the sky began to darken, despite it being near noon. Thunder boomed in the heavens as the electricity gathering around Vile circled him like an orb, obscuring him. Lightning bolts rained down from above, striking Vile's "orb" and swirled around him, before being absorbed into the orb. The orb soon exploded in a flash of light, temporarily blinding those who'd been watching not wise enough to cover their eyes.
In the aftermath, Vile's appearance hadn't changed, but on his flesh were the symbols and runes associated with lightning. "Lightning archmagic is quite powerful, as unsealing the spells can be done quickly given the right weather." He said, looking up at the dissipating storm clouds. "Now, then."
Vile disappeared, or moved so fast he wasn't able to be seen. He reappeared right in front of the party, who had now regrouped, but were caught off guard by his sudden movement speed. "I'll hold back enough not to kill any of you, because I'm not here to make an enemy of the state. But I will tell you something before I go. My reason for being here is, I'm searching for someone. Unfortunately, my comrades haven't found him here either, so I'll be going back to Vane. If I were you however, I'd get out of this city before it's too late. You don't want to be here when the eclipse comes."
With that, Vile plunged his sword into the ground, discharging an epic blast of lightning that ripped the ground and send bolts of electricity high and about in every direction. But once the attack had ended, and the smoke and dust cleared, Vile had disappeared again.

Aqua braced herself against the enemy attack, but was overwhelmed. She fell back as the explosion pushed them away, and came too just a few moments later. She looked around at the others, who were all exchanging looks of concern at Vile's last words, before she slowly raised a closed fist up and slammed it down on the pavement below. Another shameful defeat.
But they were alive at least.
Aqua climbed to her feet and looked at the others. "I can't believe it.. that was definitely arch magic.. to think he, of all people.."

Rion frowned at the response Vile had given, as far as his association with Calico was concerned. It seemed he was in league with the pirate, but perhaps he had been playing both sides to suit his needs that day; even then, what was his motive? With Rion being unarmed, he was certain he would be the first target, which at least allowed enough preparation to not let being kicked suddenly throw him off-guard too much, though the lightning mage's speed was still startling as Rion was launched off of his feet and away from the others. He recovered easily enough, turning his body to control his tumble away before picking himself up, just in time to catch Shirosame as it was thrown at him. He looked over at Alriik as he mentioned Vile likely being a red herring of sorts, though it was unclear whether that was ever the lightning mage's intention. From Rion's perspective, it appeared this fight was happening almost entirely on Aqua's terms. "Agreed..." 'On more than one account...' Indeed, Rion found Aqua's furor almost baffling; they knew well enough from the encounter on the ship that Vile appeared to be more skilled than the run-of-the-mill mage, and though for the moment he saw no reason to believe they could not beat him, he also had to consider the issues at hand. Save for Alriik, none of them had their gear handy, and though Silver was not around due to recovering from her injuries, Rion himself may as well have not been present in his current state. Simply put, the team was far from battle-ready, and dealing with an opponent they knew fell enough to be capable of holding their own against them from the previous encounter; this by no means a tactically sound plan.
However, no sooner than Rion had determined that perhaps attempting to seek any trail left behind by the true assassin was a better plan, Alriik had used some of his remaining weapons in a highly offensive maneuver to strike at Vile, though it appeared his landing was... not as planned. "You all right over there?" He said, following his instinct to provide aid by making his way over to check on Alriik after he hit the ground as hard as he did. However, no sooner than he recalled there was little he could conceivably do in the situation had Vile made his way atop the chimney. With the sky beginning to darken suddenly, Rion narrowed his eyes. 'Conjuring a storm...? This is far from ordinary magic...' As the lightning was absorbed into Vile's spell Rion looked back down to Alriik, only looking back up after the flash to see the runes appear on Vile, just as he explained the efficiency of lightning archmagic. He felt all right about how the party had fared so far, even under the given circumstances, but the revelation that Vile was an archmage spelled nothing but trouble for the underprepared and short-handed team. 'Now we have a problem...'
As Vile made his escape, Rion held up Shirosame in a defensive stance. Though he still appeared unable to draw mana of his own accord, the increased mana in the air as Vile readied his archmagic was enough for Rion to use in tandem with the blade's affinity toward light magic to conjure a faint barrier of light, though the spell did little more than prevent any serious harm to befall him as it shattered, sending him tumbling back once more as Vile escaped.
"Tch... so he's an archmage from Vane...?" he stated after picking himself back up once more, before he looked around at the others, pondering what Vile was warning of when he suggested they leave before the eclipse. Was Vile sent here by the nation from which those of the Frontier broke away from? "... Everyone all right...?"

Meribia Saito Saito stepped out from the shadows after it appeared as if eyes on the fight had reduced. It seems everyone even the at-current villainous Rai had their own reasons. The battle was spectacular, to be sure, but not once did he notice Rai striking with killing in mind. His words matched his intentions so it appeared. He walked out onto the street, his hands that had been ready to draw his blade now rested away from drawing it. He turned to the group as they gathered up, slowly picking themselves up, "It seems even he has his own problems. I think count yourselves fortunate he's not here to make an enemy of you, and figure out your next step. What is this eclipse he speaks of?", he folded his arms. He was by all intents and purposes an outsider and lacking in knowledge, but it appeared a few here were acquainted, given some of their reactions to this revelation. He need only nudge their thinking in the right direction.

As Vile conjured his electrical storm and powered up Terra preemptively erected an earthen barrier to shield herself from the electrical attack. She hunkered behind it as bolts of lightning lashed out in every direction, and when the dust settled Vile was nowhere to be seen.
Terra hadn't really believed Vile was an archmage before that moment, everything she knew about the man told her he was a scoundrel who'd happily oversell himself if the lie gained him some advantage. And beyond his character, in her mind Vile was far too young to be an archmage, it didn't make sense to her that anyone could reach that level until they were an old greybeard who'd devoted their life to mastery. But she supposed there was no good in denying it any longer, she'd underestimated him.
If she took him at his word then hopefully their paths wouldn't cross again, but he'd left them with a cryptic warning to puzzle over. "He mentioned comrades here," Terra spoke up, "So he's not working alone..." Then Saito stepped forward and asked about the eclipse Vile had spoken of, and Terra remembered a conversation from earlier that morning. "Dirk mentioned that a lunar eclipse was happening soon, that the moon would be covered in shadow and sailors would be returning to port. But he made it sound like a beautiful spectacle, I was hoping we could all lay outside and gaze at the stars together but it sounds like Vile knows something we don't."
As she recanted this information Terra suddenly shivered involuntarily. For a brief moment she had a terrible feeling that all of these events were connected, and even though Itham had been freed the blight mage was still at large and the worst was yet to come. Itham, Terra thought, slowly turning on the spot to look from Saito over at Frida. "Frida do you remember the conversation we had yesterday when we discussed the idea that your father's imprisonment felt like a distraction, a step in some larger plot? I wondered if there was some event about to take place, or some piece of legislation the House wanted to slip through while everyone was distracted. I think Vile just gave us the answer, the blight mage must be planning something the night of the eclipse."

As Vile showed his true power, it seemed the others were stunned. Perhaps only Alriik took him at his word. As the sky opened up, he tried to force himself back to his feet, to dash at him one last time, to go for that fateful swing that would stop him. Alriik would barely get to a knee before the area was bathed in light, and Vile made a hasty retreat. Alriik would grit his teeth, and slam a single fist into the ground.
It was a miracle that was the extent of his outburst. His doubts over Itham's innocence began to dance around doubts over Aqua's leadership. If she hadn’t made such a scene, perhaps they could have found the actual killer. The person he wanted to talk to was dead. There was a threat of the eclipse and Vile's words, his frustration over the way he had been treated, held over thoughts over his friendship with Terra, worry for Arne. As his body heated up, his teeth tightened, and silver blood began to leak from the new wound from his hand, all he could do was sit there for a few solid moments. It really was a miracle that was the extent of his outburst.
He'd stand soon after, looking over to Aqua. He wouldn’t look condescending- It was the look of a friend who knew she could be better and was disappointed she wasn’t. Though his face would betray his thoughts, he would keep them from leaving his mouth for now. “Vane, huh? Yeah… Let's go see your dad.” He'd turn his face from her, looking around, sighing, and keeping his glance from her for the rest of the conversation. “The optics on this are awful. It looks like the trial of Itham Nyhorrlothor isn’t over just yet, is it? Just one thing on top of another…”

Aqua's thoughts began to calm as the adrenaline in her body began to wane. Vile had retreated after displaying his superiority, claiming he wasn't responsible for the attack on Barr. But if not him, than who? She remembered now, in the midst of the battle the others called Vile a false lead, a distraction. Had she led them down the wrong path while the true assassin made their escape? The others discussed openly, drawing the same conclusion she had made. She knew it now, she made a mistake in the moment. This could prove fatal when dealing with blight or, most recently, arch mages.
Aqua cursed at herself. Damn it! There's too much going on here! First a blight mage, a pirate, then my father's imprisoned, and now we're getting our asses kicked in the street almost daily! By archmages, no less! The young elf's mind spun with confusion as she tried to put the events together. She looked to the others while they talked, but caught a glance from Alriik that belied his feelings. She needed to get it together.
"Alright.. well.. to answer Rion, despite coming in underprepared, we're all alive. No serious injuries to account for." Aqua started. She began to pace, then listened to Saito's and Terra's exchange. Dirk's mention of the upcoming eclipse earlier, and how the ships would be at port.
The eclipse. The moon. Something was biting at her, but she couldn't quite grasp it. There's something about an eclipse.. a legend about old magic.. she thought, uncertain. She didn't know herself, but perhaps Dirk or her father could enlighten them.
At Terra's suggestion, she put her fist to her chin and thought hard. "I'm willing to admit, I made a mistake today going after Vile. He was.. a distraction. Perhaps an unwitting one. If the mage's angle is drop a blight crystal down on The Frontier, he'd want to eliminate the forces here first.. but that doesn't make any sense. If there was something special about the eclipse, he wouldn't do it during the eclipse when all the boats are at port, he'd do it when they were away, right? There's something confusing about these plans, but I'm starting to think that that's what they want. They want us chasing after false leads."
"We know that the blight mage isn't afraid to attack us in the city. But then why was he seen at the mountain? Mount Remorse makes sense as a fortress, it's a mine with a dark history of slaves being buried alive in collapses if they weren't worked to death first. A blight mage could summon an army there to walk on the city. But then why are children disappearing too? And what role did my father and Barr play in this scheme? I know I might sound like a pessimist by saying this, but it seems like the mage is already powerful enough to take over Meribia if he wants to."
"And guys, I know this is important, but if Barr was targeted that makes me worry about my father. We should get back to the manor, and fast."

Itham's carriage rode safely through the crowd, thankfully untouched by any assassins. But he did encounter another obstacle. A mob had formed on the streets between him and the manor.
"There he is!" "Murderer!"
Itham glanced out the window of his carriage as a rock smacked against it, cracking it hard. The mob of humans angrily shouted at Itham's entourage as they circled it, pelting it with stones from the road and other objects. The Sentinels pushed the crowd away, shouting at them to clear a path and beating them back with their shields if they didn't comply. Itham leaned forward, clutching his fists together and staring hard at the floor. Things had changed so much so quickly, his people were becoming violent. The information that Barr's carriage had been attacked and he'd been slain already reached the chancellor, and he knew this would cause extreme disrupt to his populace, but it shocked him to think there were those who thought him responsible.
The gates shut behind the carriage as Itham looked through the cracked window at the statue, only barely visible now.

Vile laid in the shadows some distance away, sure his feint had succeeded. Previous experience with blight mages told him this one was particularly nasty, playing black mail and kidnappings to aid in his nefarious activity. But this one was different as they were playing a long game, to what end he did not yet know but knew it was reaching it's final act. The hero, or heroine, seemed unable to put together the clues strewn about the city, so he took upon himself to warn her about the climax.
Vile dashed from shadow to shadow as he made his way back to Tyven's place, where upon entering, the beastman sat at his table, looking grimly at a newspaper before him, so fresh the ink threatened to stain the table.
"Chancellor Barr of the House of Man, slain outside the courthouse right after the trial of the year. Nay, the whole country." Tyven said. Vile just stared at him before slowly shutting the door behind him and taking a seat across from him.

Fireballs and rocks flew down a dark corridor as the remaining members of Orca fought for their lives. Separated and without hope of retreat, the last members banded together for one last stand against the blight mage.
Flames lit up the tunnel as they struck walking monstrosities; the corpses of man covered in soil with numbers unending. Purple light escaped their eyes and mouths as they pushed against the magical combinations, falling apart as they were stricken but replaced by another in the horde immediately.
"There's no end to this!" Shouted one of the two fire mages, blasting stream after stream. The earth mage grunted, pushing boulders that only disappeared as they grew too close to flatten their numbers or halt their advance. Panic set in as the force drew closer.
"Ah.. AHH!!" The other of the fire mages shrieked as the drones got close enough her fire spells lit up every burning feature of them. She turned and ran, deep into a thin crevice in the wall, abandoning the others to a gruesome fate. The men shouted their dying breaths as they were swallowed by the wave.
With the horde distracted behind her, she, an elf woman with olive brown medium length hair and brown eyes, pushed her way through the darkness of the mine, afraid to use any magic or make any sound to reveal herself. The mage was everywhere down here. They couldn't speak among themselves without his interruption. But perhaps, if she stayed deathly quiet, his attention would shift somewhere else, and she could slowly crawl her way through the dark tunnels back to light. Her chances were slim at best, but it was all she had. Carefully, and slowly, she felt her way through the tunnels, laying low and moving. She had no way of telling where she was, but as she continued she felt the paths moving up. Up was better than down. So she continued up.
She lost track of time. Had it been hours, or days since she fled the mage? Hunger and thirst were beginning to set in, and fear that her stomach groaning would reveal her to the mage caused her to shake. She didn't want to die. She moved faster and recklessly in the dark, bumping against rocks and tripping up easily. The cold ate up all the warmth in her the longer she stayed in the mine, giving her no rest when she stopped to catch her breath.
She reached the end of a tunnel, where she had no idea, but the wall felt different. Smooth, metal, and ebbing with magic. She looked behind her, and all around her, but saw no sign of the mage. Perhaps she was alone now. Whatever this door was, it might lead to a way out. She lit the smallest flame she could muster in her hand to briefly illuminate the door ahead, and saw it was unlike any she had seen before.
The door was a circular entrance, with tan rock encrusted with runes on it and a black sphere in the center. The runes were hard for her to make out, but at the very least she could tell they were in old elvish. She extinguished her light after a brief glance and thought about what she'd found. Some mysterious ancient relic, or worse, the entrance to the blight mage's hideout. As she pondered, the runes themselves began to light with a soft, blue glow. She backed away, pushing her back to the wall as the door creaked, it's circular design sliding aside as it's inside were revealed.
A pair of red eyes shone in the dark lowly, where the orb had been. A sound of fingers snapping and an orb of dark fire appeared in the mage's hand- a young boy. The orca team member froze as she was revealed before him.
The boy had black hair, a black robe, and the pointy ears of an elf. His ruby red eyes fixed on her with a blank stare, despite the fear and terror on her face. They held a silence between them, their eyes locked, the only sound was the girl's heartbeat as she forgot how to breathe.
That was until some footsteps from the room behind the boy revealed a ghoul; a body half decayed but with blonde locks of hair and red and purple eyes loomed behind and over the boy in the doorway, whom still hadn't moved from his eye lock. The orca team member, upon seeing another ghoul, began hyperventilating and shrieked as she threw an enormous fireball forward. But the boy was quick, pulling a silver rod piece from his cloak and siphoning the fireball down to a mere spark. The energy of the attack was the last of the girl's, as she fell over, unable to move. The boy nodded his head to the ghoul, who took a few steps forward, threw the girl over his shoulder, then carried her past the door, which soon closed behind the ghoul and the boy, the light fading from the mysterious runes as darkness filled the mine once again.
