actually, the minimal ammount of RAM is 512MB, but I was running it on an AMD Athalon 64 PC with 336MB of RAM. It worked pretty good. And Microsofts little "security" plan isn't going to work...especially since Vista is available for the public to Beta. Vista Home PageGet Beta 2See VistaFeatures

Yea, i can see all u with old computers saying how bad vista will be and it has too many requirements. Well im building a computer that will support vista. A Vista ready computer would actually be very cheap if u wanted to make one.
anyway, XP is old, and Vista is gonna look way cool, be safter, work better, and have more and better features. Have fun with ur 5 year old OS. Its old, and soon will be useless

after this public beta don't even try to tell me that Vista will be safer. My buddy already has it 60% stripped down. It's not gonna be safer.

I know it wont be perfect, but after a while, theen some patches come out, i expect it to be better. you can really say if it will be better or not. It all depends on how hard microsoft works on it, how the code is, and how many viruses and hacks people can make. I wouldnt go saying it wont be safe. Its hard to tell the answer at this stage in the product

true, but i've been beta testing it for 4 months. and all i can say is it has eaten 3 video cards (that microsoft replaced; glad i'm a partner) and in that time....i havent been as wowed as i had been promised. so untill i see other wise, i'm keeping it on a virtual server.

Well maybe you need to buy video card fans. also, you can use the less graphics intense interfaces, so you card would be fine. also, It the card manufacturer's fault the the card cant handle that much without dying. It should lower the core speed of the GPU or lessen its power in order to make it last. You cant say the OS did it, Cards shouldn't die on you like that.

Ok, I just installed Beta 2 today...HOLY SEE THRU-NESS BATMAN!!! I'm much more impressed about this build. The setup was easy (shocking I know). and It runs a hell of a lot smoother, and I'm only using a $95 video card.

A lot of you talked about how bad Vista is, but now that its comint closer to release, and technology is better, and supports it better, so i though some might have changed their opinion. So i guess we could talk about vista more.
I think Vista is the future, and there is no point in backing XP, cuz its already old, and is just getting older. I think less stuff wil be supported on XP soon. Also, I dont really get viruses, maybe 1 or 2, but some people do. Vista seems to have had a lot of work put into security. Is it safe enough?

There are about 120 new features in Vista that XP doesn't have, and the "high graphics card" I'm using was only $95, and I bought that to play games with.
Vista has a totaly revamped user interface, which I might add, looks amazing. I'm not gonna go in depth into a lot of things because most of you will not understand a damn thing. It has a new way of managing cooporative CPU usage, that makes things run more smoothly. Vista only take about 30min to install, XP takes about an hour. The install is fast, and easy to use (*is shocked*). New volume controls, allow you to adjust the volume of INDIVIDUAL applications, that is awesome. New Start Menu, now when you click on all programs, it doesn't take up your entire screen. Instead the start menu transistions into a list of the programs you have installed. There is a new streamlined search system, that not only searches file names, but also the contents of your documents. And it starts as soon as you press the first key, and it happens so fast that you barely see it happen. It runs efficently, and effectively. You don't need 1GB of RAM to use it. MS Paint has been improved. New voice command features work out of the box, takes about 15min to setup, but after that, you can tell you computer what to do, and it does it.
Contrary to popular belief, Vista IS BACKWARDS COMPATIBLE. All the way back to DOS, yes that's right, DOS. It plays all my old games just fine, it even runs 22XX GT.
Vista is an operating system, not something that is going to completely destroy your computer, I've been beta testing it for a few months now, and now with the public release of RC1, I can safely say that Windows Vista is ready.

I really think the look is cool from what ive seen, cant wait to get it. And im sure u dont need 1 GB of ram, but the less you have, the more virtual memory you will use, which slows performance a lot.
also, im happy to hear about the volume controls for individual applications. I hate it when i listen to music, and the MSN makes a big banging sound cuz someone is talking...really gets annoying

Well it seems that people wont be able to pirate Vista, so i may actually buy it for my new computer, or i can stick with pirated XP. the problem is that i want a good version, but i dont wanna be paying $250 or something for Vista Ultumate. I would use Linux if half the WIndows programs would work on it
