In the Legends games, Trigger got the name Megaman because Roll gave it to him. She named him after Megaman which is actually a tv show in their world. The only part of the show you can watch is a few seconds long and loops. Protoman and Gutsman are shown in it if memory serves

I'm not sure........ I think megaman is also something else... maybe....... in that series, Juno is also called Megaman Juno by Data when he goes through that long speech at the end of the first game........ also the first time his voice is used, lol...... I need to play the second one somehow...... >_<

It could be a continutity error on Capcom's part, but who knows? It definately wouldn't be the first time(Deis from the Breath of Fire games comes to mind, they didn't correct her name until the 3rd game)

It's not a continuity error however, various Legends elements are being made scatered around the Z and ZX games to create a more proper proof line of continuity.
Name on Elysium - Megaman Trigger Name on Terra (Earth) - Megaman Volnutt or just Megaman. Plot wise the naming is highly coincidental.

Could it be that the TV show (in the legends universe) was based upon Megaman Trigger? (or potentially a previous megaman version?) And Roll just thought it was a coincidence and thus decided to name him the same...
But alas we'll never know the truth unless Capcom revokes the decision not to make another MML game.

That was a video game. A fourth wall break to name the protagonist, if you will. Think crazy.
