Sonic today announced Sonic Wild Fire (working title), an exclusive for the Nintendo Wii.
Being developed by Sega Studios, Sonic Wild Fire has Sonic in his first solo adventure since the original Sonic the Hedgehog back in 1991. The game will use the Wii controller in a brand new way to control the blue hedgehog.
In the game, the last few pages from the classic book, Arabian Nights, have gone missing, and it's up to Sonic re-create the story. The environments will include colored mosaic tiles, oases, palm trees, and crumbling stone columns -- which sounds like a throwback to the original Genesis series. "Sonic Wild Fire and the innovative Wii controller changes the way gamers play interactive entertainment," said Scott A. Steinberg, Vice President of Sega of America, Inc. "Segais excited to lead the gameplay revolution through its support of Wii with a Sonic release built exclusively for this new system."
The Wii controller will be used to to steer Sonic around the world. Hold the controller horizontally with two hands and tilt left and right to steer Sonic on different paths or to maneuver from obstacles and enemies. Tilt and fling forward to dash-attack ground and air enemies and to break down barriers.
The game will also include a selection of mini-games which take advantage of the controller. You can play them alone or with friends in the multiplayer mode.
Sega expects the game to hit in 2007. We should have the first images of the title later in the day!
