So, for some of you guys who kinda don't understand the meaning of these 2 words, allow me to brief on it. 'Fate' means a power beyond human control that is believed to decide events. While 'Destiny' means something that MUST happen, by hook or by crook.
Do you believe that in our lives, that fate and destiny tells all to us?
My first controversial poll in 2008. Voice out guys. ^ ^

To certain extent, the world is working itself towards a certain and destined goal. But fate-wise, that's a matter of a person's responsibility.
For example, Earth has been working to the direction of good for thousands of years, whereas man can decide whether actions can affect them or not.
If the Founding Fathers hadn't stood up against the British, America would have been fated to be a British colony until a new generation came in to demand independence. The other fate would be what th US is today - a sovereign independent nation.

The only problem I find with fate and destiny is that it completely elimates any freewill and makes everything seem like just another story... Like a great huge book that is billions upon billions of pages long and has recorded everything that has ever happened to anyone/thing since the universe began... or possibly before then as well. That would mean that no matter what I did, I was fated to write this post and hit that post reply button... But then say I wrote the post but decided not to post it, then it was fated that I not do it... but how was it decided whether or not I would? Random occurance? This is just one of many possible worlds that branches off at every situation? I refuse to allow an explanation of God because then it invites the problems of: how and where did God come from and is God also determined and if so then there must be a power higher that isn't determined. ( And then it dissolves into a mess of infinite regressions and impossibilities. )
And having the whole fate/destiny thing kinda destroys punishment and deterrance for law as well... Because no matter what you do/say they were determined they were going to do <criminal action> and because it wasn't their choice it's not possible to punish them (while being fair and just as the system needs to be.)
But can I be determined and think I'm free? This is where it gets tricky as I would say No. If your determined then every choice you could ever make has already been set in stone, nothing you can do to change it. But you would be able to tell if you were forced to do something... But that doesn't seem to be the case where in this world you can decide to choose something, it's not like if you were forced to do something then it would automatically happen that way... Say you wanted to wear a purple hat... if you put it on then no matter what you did it would get removed or change colors. That's not how it is, if you want to wear a hat then you do.
But can I be fated but not have all my decisions seemingly forced upon me? as if I come to them myself? Another difficult issue... For it would seem that it is possible but then it opens the problems already discussed earlier. But this makes it harder to tell if the decisions areally are fate or freewill... As you were fated to make the decision but how you arrived at them was by freewill...
I guess then it would be more of a reaction determinist view... One action is fated which causes a reaction that is fated to create another reaction and thus the cycle continues as one reaction is made it makes another... A perfect perpetual cycle. It was determined that when you woke up you would eat, it was choice you had bacon ( or eggs or whatever you had. ) this in turn causes another reaction, your not hungry so you stop eating, then you are fated to move onto the next activity... and so on.

Lets see...I defiantly don't' think that a higher power controls what will happen, because naturally that would make life a hell of allot more boring. Not just for us, but for the higher power. Not to mention the havoc that would put into time travel. So that leaves out fate. Next is destiny, basically saying that something MUST happen kinda means that it was planned out...right? So it's like fate. I'm kinda going off of the Terminator series on this.
I kinda believe that by what actions we choose somewhat determine our future. I also kinda loosely believe in Karma. Cause it seems through my experiences that if you do good things then good things happen in turn. Not really sure if that really pertained to this thread. But o well.
