This topic is just for people who want to develop an RP to get help with it. As well as for people to post up their ideas for an RP to see if there is sufficient interest. (So that they don't spend loads of time developing an RP that others may not be interested in at the current time.)

Common themes include - slice of life, good vs evil (which always turns out to be the most dominant in the gaming industry), mystery and thriller and the like.
Personally, it would be better if anyone here can think of a far more different theme than listed above to make their RPG more unique.
That's my idea.

Um can I please point out that not all RP's have to have a plot, in my opinion an RP with no plot and is just "Come up with it as you go" can be really fun as well.
....btw that sounds alot like Resident Evil... I mean it sounds similar...

What about a horror RP? Now I know that it probably wouldn't be all that scary... so it'd have to be more graphic and grotesque. My idea for this is that: You were living in Generic city A, but a few hours ago a test of a new gene treatment designed to cure cancer as well as virtually all diseases backfired. The end result was a mutant with an insatiable hunger and an infectious bite. One bite from this mutant and the virus would spread to you... causing more mutations which you would further spread. It seemed that all these mutants kept their intellect for the most part, but gained a savage taste for just about any and all meat. The government decided quarantine was best, and so they blocked off the city. And then they decided that since the disease was spreading too fast there was no way to get rid of it. They couldn't cure it without a sample, and that they deemed was too risky. So instead they opted to just blow the entire city away with nuclear arms... Because of the use of nuclear weapons, they have begun evacuating everyone from the surronding cities... Which is where you come in. You've just now boarded the plane and taken your seat. After half an hour the pilot signals everyone get ready for take off. As you get ready, the pilot begins to fire up the plane. The take off goes without a hitch, and soon your soaring high over your city, watching your home shrink, wondering if anything'll be left after the bomb is dropped. Soon your house is gone from sight and you relax. The pilot comes on the intercom and says: "We're now over the infected airspace, we'll be clear in..." But your thoughts are jarred as the intercom cuts off and the lights in the cabin go dark, a loud explosion is heard and as you look out the window you see the wing on fire. Another bang, then another signals all the engines are now gone. The plane takes a sudden drop with all the engines gone, it glides a bit but eventually crashes right onto the street in the middel of the infected city. As you unbuckle from your seat, the emergency lights flickering, you open the door and exit the plane as it's now filling with smoke. "It won't be long before this plane catches fire completely" you think as you exit the plane, many other passengers are dead, but there are a few survivors. As you touch onto the ground it suddenly occurs to you just where you are... And that's be the intro. If it sounds good I can probably make it into a full rp within a few days if I plot it all out now. I can comment that this plot is the exact same plot as I Am Legend the movie. Except for the nuclear wipeout part. We need something more original. But unfortunately, the RPG world tends to be a sack of repeated ideas , only that it's applied to different individuals. However, I would enjoy it if someone here comes up with a thriller plot similar, but not too similar, to Higurashi no Koku Ni (or whatever its full title is). It's plain different.

Actually I've never seen the movie "I Am Legend." But I didn't want to go with stereotypical zombies, lest I get accused of ripping of Resident Evil... But even still, I guess I end up ripping off it somewhat anyway. Though maybe if the origins of the virus were different? Like instead of engineered (either accidental or on purpose) it was either an evolution in mankind or de-evolution? Or possibly some rare but highly infectious disease mutates of it's own accord? (Like a cold that changes and evolves.)
And I do agree somewhat, it's hard to be original as there are only so many kinds of stories one can make, and they're all going to be nearly the same... But like you said it's the characters it happens to that makes it different. So that's where it becomes truely interesting, the human-human interaction for each situation.
And as for Higurashi no Koku, never heard of it... But if you know about it then why not you make something up similar (but not too similar) to it?

Ive got it!
It's a normal day in the small town of Eunos, when suddenly a meteorite can be seen coming from the sky, as it falls it starts to deteriorate in size and by the time it hit the ground it was the size of a tennis ball, but the impact of the landing caused a crevesse(sorry if it's not spelled right) to open up at the impact point. when the crevesse opens up people fall into it and are announce dead.
about 5 days later scientists from the government come to investigate the crevesse and they send one of their interns down on a cable made of titanium. the intern reaches the bottom of the crevesse a scream is suddenly heard. the supervisers pull up the cable and the intern is gone, the cable itself looked as though it was eaten off. the scientists listen in horror as the sound of the intern screaming cuts off with a loud "Crunch."
Humanoid Creatures that resemble the people that had fallen into the crevesse started to climb out of the gaping hole they ganged up on the nearest scientist and... well it gets too gruesome and I'll only post if this plot is liked, then the entire town is put into quarantine and guards are sent to each and every possible exit to make sure that not a single creature escapes. even though the guards continue to kill the creatures, more seem to come out of the crevesse each time
the government debates whether to nuke the place or not, but they decide not to because an evacuation of the surrounding towns would cost billions of dollars, so they call in an elite squad of warriors to infiltrate and destroy the thing that is creating these creatures, and to make sure that no more civilians are hurt.
It's just an Idea, but I think it would work and of course, the RPers would be the elite squad

Sounds kinda like Smallville(Space rocks that mutate people) + Resident Evil(The elite team tasked to handle it) + The cave/some recently released on DVD movie about this team that has to solve some riddle of a cave to escape before monsters feast upon their brains. (I'd be easier if I could remember the title of the movie...)
Not to say that's bad, it's just like previously mentioned... there are only so many stories you can make and so it'll ALWAYS bear resemblance to something else. So unless you want to just say "Ok, this is Resident Evil subplot number 3421375" and just set it in the actual Resident Evil universe then most horror rp's are always have that freshly borrowed from Resident Evil feel.

How about something more basic, something less ... extravagant?
I'd like to point out to the movies Pixar has made all this while. Their movies are simplistic, less chaotic, but more down-to-earth and enjoyable. A day-to-day life kind-of thing.
A plotline taht emphasizes important life things like friendship, honour, deceit, pride and the joy of life. Not something messy that's world-changing or concerning big involvement.

I've never been big on the whole down to earth, day to day stories... Why? because I live each day and I want to have a story where I can do things that boring ol' normal life me can't do. (Which is why I've avoided the sims games... Why do I want to simulate life when I can go live it?)
You might like it, and if you can make a decent story for it work, then power to you.

Regarding my last post, I proved that their was absolutely no mutation when I said that even though the guards killed the creatures, more seemed to climb out of the crevesse
2nd: I can't see the PDF file because I'm running the Wii browser, I'll check it out when I get the chance..
3rd:I fully agree with viruszero on this matter, if we want to live real life we would just go outside.. from my experience, the reason people play RP's on forums is because they want to escape the real world, not to play a simulation of it.
hmm what about a virtual world RP? basically some players of a small, not very popular, online game decide to spread a virus to the server which then spreads it to an even bigger server. bottom line some players of the game use special "Data-Transfer Devices" to physically convert their bodies to data and enter the internet themselves in order to stop the virus threat which is threatening national security.
I'm still hesitant on the details but If you guys like it yo can tweak it and use it for yourselves, just tell me first so I don't waste time plotting it.

An Intriguing idea... But any thoughts on additional enemies? And of course would have to have some run ins with the federal agents and their probably super powered online forms.
But if we're playing as virus writers and/or hackers... then it does possibly create some problems for godmodding. As virtually anything is possible as long as you can write the code to do it. (Be it have the viruswriter create another super virus to deal with some enemy then self terminate or a hacker create an invincible shield for himself.) Though it does provide an explanation on how we can get our moves...

Other Ideas- (I've got a bunch but these are some basic) -Cliche'd High School RP (Down to earth for FW)
-Vs Mob RP (a group of people have an entire mob out to kill them)
Spy Or Theif RP(Spies or Theives for Hire)
Military Combat RP (not sure about story yet, you guy's try to come up with one if you want)
Imprisoning War RP-this one is my favorite, it takes place in Hyrule during the imprisoning war of OoT (during the 7 years link is sleeping), Supremus is the leader of a band of warriors that fight against Ganondorf's Army. the first scene would take place in the area below Kakariko Village(right below the stairs leading to the village in OoT)
More Details if the Ideas are liked

I've been having a thought of doing like a school academy for magi and spell users; I suppose maybe something like a mix between Harry potter and the Familar of Zero. It's just been dwelling in my head really...

That works too, but we'd need a set of really original spells rather than rip-offs. Needs an original plot of its own than the Voldemort and the ones occuring in Zero no Tsukaima. Well, since it's dwelling in your head, why not spill it out into your own RPG?

Well, since it's dwelling in your head, why not spill it out into your own RPG? Haven't read harry potter (my sister though told me what happens though) and for the familar of Zero, I haven't seen it (But knows how the first season ended). I already have a plot for the story. Well, a main story You do have a thing with that the spells, but it shouldn't be a problem. The real problem with "A familar tale" is that it's not a RP but a story to be written . In my head, I got a few scenes and the main four characters, and I know what the final boss is gonna be. Since it takes place in a magical school, this is why it got linked to the idea of turning it into a RP, although I'd lose most of those main characters if I did it though.
