I'll bet some of you were blown away at this Summer's Carnival knowing ZV had now been around for 6 years.
Well, it's even more mind boggling when you've been here for 6 years! As you might have guessed, today is my 6 year Anniversary on ZV.
It's hard to believe. That's nearly a third of my life. I first joined ZV in 2003, when it was still fairly new, and I was just an obnoxious 13 year old who was new to online communities. And I mean obnoxious. I made all the mistakes newbies made around here (double posting, spamming, typing like a retard, deliberately invoking the wrath of Xero, ect.) Quite Frankly, I'm surprised I lasted long enough to have ever made it this far. I guess I have ZV's easy-going nature to thank for that.
So many fond memories though. One of my earliest was spamming the "Just Wondering" thread with Tony and Ultimate Zero. I guess I owe them a lot, them being my first real friends on ZV (you rock, Tony. Even if you do shoot cows.) For those of you who don't remember or it was before your time, the "Just Wondering" thread was pretty much like the pointless thread, except you numbered your posts (pretty much counting with each post) to see how many posts it'd take to break a thread. This was made by Maverick Nak, one of the administrators long before the reign of Xero and I. We used to post in that thing so often, we'd have to keep going back and modifying our posts to correct the numbers, cause everyone was posting at once. XD (The thread only made it to like 100 Pages though, which was amazing at the time. Though we've put it to shame numerous times in the years since.)
That was back in the days Bossman was active too. God I miss him, it's too bad he's such a rare sight nowdays. I wish more of you could have gotten to know him. He was great. I probably owe my continued presence on ZV to him, since I was a pain in the ass. He used to talk to me and my sister a lot on MSN after I joined. And Xero joined the staff shortly after I joined ZV, and as I mentioned before, I used to deliberately piss him off (something many of you know isn't a good idea.) Luckily this was back in the days where Xero was nice (creepy, right?) so despite all my shenanigans, I made it out with only a couple threats to get banned. XD
Not all old memories were good though. I remember ZV's very first Ass Pirate. Granted he had nothing on more recent curses to ZV Society *coughtoycough* but he was our very first member we had to ban, so that was memorable. And then of course there was the time ZV had it's first Civil War. I won't go into all the fine details on that, since some of it's sensitive information (you're free to ask me another time if you really want to hear it, though) but many fine members of ZV succeeded that day (though I can't say I blame them, given the circumstances.) My sister (who many of you know as Z-Kat) gave the succeeded members sanctuary on her forum that my brother and I helped administrate though, and I had to work hard to get Bossman to sit down with the leaders of the Confederacy and Union there and talk everything out. I was told I did good though, and after reuniting ZV, I got my first staff position as a Moderator, so I think it all worked out in the end.
That was back in the days when it was a fad for everyone to have a Proboards Message board. It was kinda neat, but a pain in the ass, since to keep up with all the latest news, you had to join everyone's boards (and lots of people had boards. My sister, Kate, Xero, Shaun, Tony and Xzero, just to name a few.)
But anyways. I've been here a long time, and hell, I've pretty much grown up on ZV. And I've shared everything with you guys. You've all met much of my family, a countless number of friends and classmates of mine, and even met my first girlfriend (and went through our catastrophic breakup as well. XD)
ZV has been a life-changing experience for me. And as lame as that is to say about an online forum (one I've spent a third of my life on, no less!) it's true. Without you guys, I don't think I'd be half the person I am today (well, thanks to Majeh, I'm sure I'll be halved sooner or later to make up for that, but you get what I mean.)
You're all family to me. Most of you are closer friends than many people I know in real life. You're all special to me in your own ways.
Except for Al.
Okay, Al too. But not Peytral.
Peytral sucks.
Okay, Peytral too.
There may come a time in my life where I won't be able to visit ZV much (if at all) but I don't think I could ever outgrow you guys, and I hope we can all stay in touch forever and eventually all get together and take over the world or something (we'll name the new capital of the world "Baconopolis.")
It's been a pleasure serving you all for these 6 years, as a member of ZV's Administration, and as a friend. Here's to another 6 years.
P.S: This thread doesn't just need to be about my experiences. I know some of you have been here a long time as well, feel free to share some of your thoughts/feelings/stories as well.
