Okay, here's all the info I've dug up about Windows Vista, and what I think makes it a terrible thing to buy:
1. It's a Microsoft product. We hate it but it'll be a standard one day. 2. All pre-Vista games will NOT work on Vista. You'll have to toss away Half-Life 2 if you install Vista. 3. DirectX 10. Vista exclusive. All new games will be designed with Vista in mind. 4. Microsoft have dropped all support for NT-based systems. This includes everything revolving around Windows XP. 5. Internet Explorer 759237592387593275.0z with all the security holes of Windows ME!
Anybody else got anything to add to the list?

um actually... We live in a digital world that is filled with more information, more things to do, and more ways to communicate with others than ever before. Every day, millions of people around the globe rely on their Windows-based PCs to manage the increasing amounts of digital information in their lives. While the tools we use for managing this information are powerful and familiar, today's world requires more. You want your PC to adapt to you, so you can cut through all the clutter and focus on what's important to you. Windows Vista brings clarity to your world, so you can more safely and easily accomplish everyday tasks and instantly find what you want on your PC. Explore entertainment, such as TV and music, on your Windows Vista-based PC like never before. And with Windows Vista, you'll more conveniently stay connected to the people who are important to you, from home or while on the go. Windows Vista puts you in control of what you want to do. The ExperienceFeaturesFro more insider information click heretake it from some one that works in the industry, Vista isn't a bad thing. and: that is not true. They have dropped all support for Win9X (98 and below) and IE7 is still a beta program, it will have it's flaws.

I'm not sure, but most DirectX applications support it's older versions in the new stuff. I'll look into it further.

So they haven't dropped XP? Why was it said that they droppped all NT-Based systems them? Why isn't Halo 2 also gonna work on XP? Why is Microsoft handing out dev kits like crazy? It's simple: They're dropping XP and everything before it and going to Vista. The statement about dev kits proves it.
I don't care what new "user features" it has, it's gonna be for the computer-illiterate and will be annoying as hell to us experienced users, or will there be so much new crap to learn? I don't see Vista having a good sales record at all. If it's supposed to be the "god of Operating Systems" why not include support for Macintosh, Linux, and every other platform as well? Hell, PS3 on a PC.

dude, settle down.
1. they are not dropping XP. (like i said before Win9x systems will be dropped [98 and under]) 2. vista is ONLY in the testing stages right now 2.5 only problem i have is the P4 with HT tech, the MASSIVE amount of RAM and the DX9+ video card 3. it's just a beta THERE ARE NO SALES RECORDS YET 4. for the rest of the stuff gimme some time. i need to make a few phone calls.
on a side note, Vista won't be widely accepted for at least 3-5 years anyways....as was the truth for XP, 2K, ME, 98, 95, and NT

wow. eh i found some interesting threads the user 2cute seems ta know alot. there may be somethin on it a peerevolution.com (no not pee revolution). i knew theyred be new upgrade but i thought old compatibility woulda been primary. also the more complex the operating system is the easier to get viruses.

Wouldn't be surprised if Windows came with a virus.

DirectX 10 does have a backwards compatible mode. simply called "Compatible Mode".

Gotta imagine what the other mode is, then... "Incompatible mode"
I wouldn't be surprised if everything anyone's ever had on their pre-Vista PC has to run in Compatible Mode.

To sum it all up nice and easy so I don't have to confuse the hell outta everyone.
Here's the thing, Vista is an Operating System. That is all. The only thing it does is tells things what to do, and how to do it. Vista just offers a little bit more visual effects and security, plus that really reall fast search feature. It's like Windows XP Professional on steroids. An OS is just a program, and programs don't need this much controversey. It's not like it's a P2P program like Lime Wire or Bear Share, that' will give you a virus just for opening the damn program.
When it all comes down to it, it's 2 things:
Get it. Don't get it.
I for one am not going to get it right away, an OS isn't usually that good untill about one year later when they have some updates and at least one service pack. And from a business world point of view it won't catch on for at least 3 years. Just like every OS before it. Except for DOS, wich, if I could, i would still be running today.

Well you are complaining about al your games that wont work on Vista. All new games will be for Vista, not XP, Vista is the future, ur missing out if you dont get it. I dont see why everyone is agains the new operating system. I guess i could compare u to a bunch of ppl using DOS, who are complaining about operating systemsthey are better.
