Wii could debut for much lower than $250 By Terry Mesnard - August 22, 2006
Last week, Tokyo-based Nikko Citigroup forecasted that Wii would launch in Japan for 19,800 yen which would equate to approximately $170 USD. Keeping in mind that consoles rarely follow the same price point based solely on the exchange rate, it's possible, and much more likely, that the Wii will launch in the US for $200 USD, the same price as the Gamecube's debut.
Yesterday, David Gardner, executive VP and COO of EA's worldwide studios, exclusively talked to GamesIndustry.biz and echoed this sentiment, saying, "I've heard in Japan that the price is about $170, but I don't know if the price has been set in Europe yet."
Gardner went on, praising Nintendo by saying they created a terrific strategy: "They've made a choice which is great for the consumer. Now we're going to have a choice whereby consumers can buy a Wii, plus one other console."

The fact Nintendo's keeping everything about their games under wraps is a good strategy, too. It's like how I do with my fanfics: Cliffhangers so I'll get you back for the next chapter.
