Reveiw of "Lunar Knights" for the DS
Lunar Knights is an action/RPG game that stems from the "Boktai" series, which never really made in America
Here's my reveiw
Story- The story is ok, A group of Vampires called the Dark Tribe has taken over your world and covered it with an alien sky that blocks out the sun on your world, and start out as a vampire hunter named Lucian, who is determined to kill all of the Dark Tribe by himself.
Meanwhile there is a young Gunslinger by the name of Aaron, who is training to use a solar gun that his father left behind, and later on joins Lucian on his quest to kill the Dark Tribe.
The story is Ok, at times it gets confusing, but it all makes sense later on.
Gameplay- The gameplay is executed nicely, the environmental conditions shown on the top screen, can affect how you play, and it's not connected to the DS's clock function so you don't have to wait 12 hours for nightfall/daybreak, in this game it takes 30-15 minutes.
The game runs like a dungeon crawling action/RPG should be like, the areas you find have some secret areas you can't reach until later on, the enemies are onscreen at all times and will not heisitate to attack on sight, and some might even come to your location during patrols, or if you make an unknown noise (Mainly caused by blowing into the DS mic).
The enemies are pretty smart for a handheld console, and you need to figure out ways to get them off gaurd or to run fast enough to get to the next room.
However there are these times where you have to do a 3-D minigame before you can get to the next event, you control the ship's movement by touching and dragging it around, and touching enemies to fire the weapons.
Many reveiwers called this clumsy, but I think it's a good concept it just needs some fine-tuning.
Overall the gameplay was fun, with some interesting, and well done concepts thrown in.
Graphics- The sprite artistry was fine, Some of the enemies in the game were recycled from old Boktai games, and added some new detail, this is fine with me, cause I liked the enemy design in Boktai, but for those of you who don't, it's just a minor annoyance.
The maps were done right, in my opinion, it upholds to the style.
Voice-Acting: There are some voice acting done in this game, however, they were not done right (I hate the fact that they got rid of the "Taiyoh" charging call from Boktai, but whatever)
Really the only problem I have is Aaron's and the Dark Tribe Leader's voices they could've gotten new voice actors
Music: the Music is catchy, and it fits with the environments well.
Probably not worthy enough for Xero to remix, but still it's good.
Overall: this game is good for a purchase, there are interesting concepts in the game, and there are some cool extras that can be found after beating the game once.
Score: 8.5/10
