Warning: Big post ahead
About the new gaming consoles, and what you see in them.
For me:
PS3 -
All I see really, is a grill that the pentagon would rather use for it's own purposes. The FF7 intro remake isn't all that important, because it's just mainly showing off the graphic capabilities of the PS3, and that's it. I also see a modified black market edition of this that has a writing function for all of the formats it supports.
X-Box 360 -
Hello? This thing certainly won't MOVE in all those directions. To me, it's just another multimedia console that tries to outdo the other. Nothing important, other than just another computer.
Nintendo ReVoLuTiOn -
Alright, here we go. A GAMING console, designed for GAMING. Lives up to it's title, too. The custom controller pad idea, though, doesn't seem all that great. Nintendo's following the smart path and staying with what it should be: Gaming consoles designed for GAMING. The PS2 did a good job acting as a DVD player, but it shouldn't have gone any farther than that.
The future of: The PSP -
Ports. Lots of ports and remakes. That's all I can see, really. An original title here & there... But mostly ports of older games.
The future of: The Nintendo DS -
In Japan, the concept will probably last quite a while, as with how Japanese are easily entertained. In America, however, I see the basic concept becoming 'lame' and '*banned word*' simply because of the whole concept.
The future of: Gaming in General -
I don't see too much on the horizons... 2D will collapse as handheld consoles go 3D, the ratings system will soon then rate everything that has blood in it with a 'Mature' rating. First person shooters will become the main lead of gaming, where Nintendo will try to take the stand with 'Mario Sunshine 2' and fail miserably because of the already odd concept. Every Sega fan's mascot will soon weild various weapons just like his nemesis right now. (Reference to Shadow The Hedgehog for PS2)
Older gamers will wish for the classic gaming which Revolution will provide, given that each classic game costs a lot. Capcom will make 'Megaman Axl' which will center in the Elf Wars, and once again X won't be playable, neither will Zero. There won't be sprites in this one, as it will be completely 3D rendered thanks to the PSP. The end of Sprites Inc. will come when they get every official Megaman sprite excluding the unrippable 3D models of Megaman X8 & Megaman Axl. Sony will be sued again because of the third-party developers developing "Classic" Dual Shock controllers. The third-party developers face the chance of being sued as well.
The developers of the Rainbow Six games cause a world war with the release of 'Rainbow Six: Ghost Recon 3' because of 'Iraqi influences, mockeries of the royalty, and an insult to the rest of the world.' So will say President Clinton. Congress will once again debate on whether or not Video games are safe for children, and will once again re-design the rating system for the ESRB, which will still not work regardless of what is put on the games. Eventually, the infamous soccer moms will rise up in a cult, and begin burning video games as a protest. As a result, video games in America would be banned, and America would lose a lot of the teenage population's support because of it. Every summer, teenagers by the hundreds of thousands would either migrate to areas in the U.S where games are sold on the black market, or would leave the U.S for gaming 'sites' in another country. This would cause civil unrest in the U.S, therefore another civil war would start, all because Congress crushed gaming in the U.S. This war would never end until gaming was re-established.
