It does, or at least people say it does. To some people, music is so important to them. And lots just couldnt live without it. Think about all the people with mp3 players and ipods and stuff. Even the ones without it love music.
And also, go somewhere and u would definately bei seeing wiggers, goths, emos, punks everywhere. It's all because of music, and I know I like some of the styles, but it comes from music and it is influential.
It also changes peoples views, which is why all those suck up bands are all like "save the seals" and stuff like that. but it works. I don't like to listen to a lot of somgs cuz of their messages. I don't like Black Sabbath any more cuz they are all for god (and they are just to soft). but I dont like religious bands, or any of them with views I dont like.

Really, in my opinion you can't blame anything on anything that possibly influences people because in the end its up to the person to let it or not influence them.

Elusis makes a good point. While music may have some minor influence in someone's behavior or attitude, it's ultimately up to them to decide what they're going to do. Music doesn't have a hypnotic effect on people like you see in cartoons. They won't hear a rap song about sex, drugs, and violence, then get up, buy drugs, then rape someone because they can't control their legs.

I listen to a lot of music like Staind and other metalcore or Angry music. Does it influence me? Yes. Yes it does. When I decide to turn on "Live...From the Funeral of God" (Zao, Funeral of God).. I scream with them. I get pissed off. I get angry. I rage with them. I get my bokken. I run outside and beat the shyt out of the tree, with my angry music blaring in my headphones. It makes me feel strong. It makes me feel like I have The Fire. It motivates me to get something done. Hell yes, my music influences me.
I could sit around and listen to Staind and let the melodic rock take me. It drives me. I don't think anybody can not feel like the world must change when they hear "Open Your Eyes" (Staind, Break the Cycle) or "Suffer" (Same album).
If music is bad, then I must be the ultimate evil.
@miguel: Words are Words. When someone cusses, they are expressing rage, frustration, and anger. However, words like F*** are so versatile there are even Coding languages modelled from it. By God if I want to scream "F*** THIS WORLD FOR ALL IT'S F***ING WORTH, EVERY INCH OF PLANET C***ING EARTH!" I'm gonna do it. In a crowded area. Where there are "innocent" people. Innocent Victims are a lie. If you were born on this planet, your birth certificate is proof of guilt. End of story, next f'ing case.

Alot of people have been saying things along the lines of "It only affects me if I let it". Now isn't that a complete load 'a' horse s*it? even if you don't think it influences you, it does. It's just that the media influence works strangly. At times, it works very slowly, at other times, it works instantly. It really does depend on your will, but the strongest will can only slow it down. If your one of those tiny immpressionable children who buys everything that I dangle in front of them in the form of a commercial, you'll be instantly influenced, if your an adult who thinks there mind is set in stone, It the affect works your mood. And the whole "words" issue, same as the mediua influence. Kids start spouting "F*** YOU YOU OLD BAG OF S*IT!", but those who know better just subconciusely pick it up through repeated exposure. One more thing: [glow=red,2,300][shadow=red,left,300][/shadow][/glow]

Personally I think music does have a negative on people now days. >.>; People should listen to music from like the 50s-80s, real music, real music that made you feel good, and had meaning. Not the garabage people listen to now days.
And yes, Miguel, I agree. Rap sucks.

Cradle of filth a bad influence? Yeah right, if anything its good. COF is one of my favorite bands (Dannie really brings somthing to the music you don't often hear in Black Metal). Yes this is an old thread, but its point is still important. Music is one man's representation of an experience. This enables us to understand feelings of pain, anger, sadness, and joy. Yes music is an influence, but definatly not a bad one.

Not the garabage people listen to now days. And yes, Miguel, I agree. Rap sucks. This wouldn't work for everyone. I would consider myslef to be generally sad, and I can't stand happy music. It's just the person I am. I wouldn't say the words influence you much. In most of the muic I listen to, I don't even know what they are saying. I mostly just listen for the melody, rhythm, harmony, complexity. And all this stuff about swearing in music and stuff...who cares? I swear all the time, it's not a bad thing, they are just words. and rap sucks, it's for the musically unintelligent. It has very few polyphonic layers. The more intelligent people need something more complex, such as melodic death metal
