Just a thought of myself and based on today's world, i made up a thread like this:
The world's technology is getting more better and advanced day by day. In factories, there's no more labour work, machines and electronic equipments overtook labour work, hence making work even convinient. From a big-sized handphone into a handphone that can be used either to listen to MP3s, watch videos, or tracking down friends nearby. Without technology, what could our world become? Maybe if there's no technology today, ZV, no, everything related to computers will not exist. And we may be playing cards now.
But, I got many 'complaints' from my friends. Guess what? They blamed this statement above and mentioned that TECHNOLOGY ROTS THE WORLD. Why so? Well, to think of their points, i found their statement reasonable.
With computers and handphones before Y2K, our world was the best since it's far more convenient when communicating. But, technology had gone far too advanced, in fact, too advanced until human are degraded. At the past, you may see kids around the block hanging around with each other, going to the playground or playing at the beach or something. What about now? They stick together to play PC ganes, PS3 or Wii. Have they played outdoors anymore? Overall, it's a NO. Unless that country is a poor country. Even though they played outdoors, you may see them listening to MP4s or holding a portable Nintendo DS or PSP. Other than that, humans are getting lazier than ever. Till now, all they do is click on the computers and sit down to relax. They blame that work sucks since work made them tired. Actually, the radioactive of the computers made them tired. There's no more manual work existing in some parts of the country, and i'm wondering if one day technology went into a stop or downfall, what will actually happen then? People whom are too obssessed or too into the computers or technology won't even know how to cook. They also won't have the basic knowledges. All teenagers and kids know nowadays is play online games, like MS or WoW, in the end making themselves apart from the outside world, degrading their knowledge and common sense. They know computers and technology the best. To the others, they know nothing at all. Nothing. (To other members disagreeing to this statement, maybe you know how to maintain your stats or make up your schedule, but to the others, they don't. So don't try to argue just because you or the friends you know aren't like that.)
Technology nowadays is a necessity. Without technology, we won't be able to save time, cost and energy. Yet, technology nowadays is a degrader. Although it is needed at all parts of the world, but human mind and soul is gradually degrading and rottening.
That's all. Anticipating of you guys opinions.

Well without all technology, w'd be killed so much more easily, think of all the advances in medical science... At Dalhousie University professor/Doctor Mendez has been working on the long distance surgery robot... (Among numberous other machines he has to his name) and without discoveries like his many more would die.
Factory technology does take jobs, but on the brighter side, would you like to be doing those menial tasks for 12 hours a day? No, I didn't think so. So it saves you from doing it (be thankful, those jobs are terrible).
Oh you still see kids hanging around the block but you don't know what they're up to (whether they're thieves, stoners, or just some kids hanging around you won't now until your rigt there.) the world has become a more dangerous place, kids aren't taught morals (and if they are, then many ignore it.)
(If I had a child) I'd rather have them inside playing a game than to have them be outside. (because then I would now where they are, what they're doing and that they aren't causing trouble.)
but just because you don't see kids running around playing alot doesn't mean that they don't play. It's just play has evolved... where the kids get obese is from overeating, and overeating bad foods (such as mcdonalds.)
As far as online gaming, I know most of my friends aren't into it. (I don't even own a copy of world of warcraft...) but I don't think theres anything wrong with playing online for a few hours... The problem comes when thats all you do. And yeah that is a problem. But remember social situations can be some of the hardest places to be in (especially if you don't know what to say/do.)

There is nothing wrong with technology. If parents want to let their kids get fat and lazy it's on them. So please don't go around blaming TV/Video Games/Computers for those problems. My parents raised me right, I can cook, clean, exersize, and all that other so called "normal people" activities. The world is changing, for the better, and technology is the reason. This is the Digital Decade, embrace it!
Now you all know that I am a hardcore gamer and a professional computer technician. Technology has improved my life by nearly 1000%. That may sound a bit exaggerated, but it's the truth.

people before had calculators, radios, and other things like that. you dont see them forgetting how to cook. People cant forget things they need to do to survive.
and about the lose of jobs stuff, Its just a minority that like their profession that makes our lives more costly and harder. Long ago, people were against spinning wheels, but yea, they took the jobs of all those people who made clothes by hand. Now we can get cloths much cheaper and there is an abundance.
and It save lives. They are machines you can use to perform surgery on someone in a different part of the country. So when there is a short supply of docors who specialize in certain operations, you can just use a computer and have work done all over the country from just one city.
I would say it is bad socially. If I didnt have a computer, I'd probably be hanging out with friends. I talk a lot on MSN, but I'm sure I'd have a much better experience talking to people in person, but I take this more convenient way anyway.

Technology can be your friend if you let it. It doesn't have to complicate things, its supposed to simplify things. Its when people misuse it that it becomes a problem. I know for a fact that I could survive without technology, its just easier with it. And like Ztrl said, I'm a gamer, I spend time on the internet. I've also got a fairly normal life when I log off the computer, I have a girlfriend, I go out and do stuff with friends. Technology = good.
As Strongbad says: "Technology means magic. Its basically anything really cool that you don't know how it works. And if it breaks, you need to buy a new one."

I'd just like to point out that cooking, in a sense, is a technology. ^^
Back on track: While I do like to be on the computer and play games, I also have a life; and I think that's the main point here. How to live with technology while still being able to live without being completely cut-off from real life. This generation is just different. I see my elders going on a computer for the first time, and they do not know where to click and are afraid of breaking it. I just go ahead and click them all. [assuming that I think it won't first disintegrate my computer or cause harm to myself] It shows that the world is changing and we are adapting. I'm sure that people will learn how to cook, clean and exercise with either trial and error or simple logic, i.e., don't let the bacon sit on that stove all day lest you like burnt bacon. >>;
And like the ones before me said, it really is not the technology's fault. If parents are incapable of dragging their child outside or to the gym, then they obviously should start to wake up. If they want their children to have a future, maybe they should get around to teaching their child both sides. One wouldn't just tell someone of all the good things of a certain object [unless they're advertsing]; they'd tell of what to beware as well. If they don't take the time to do that, then something's wrong. >>;
At least, that was what I thought. >>; This may be liable to change as I am fairly sleepy right now and may be prone to illusions. >>;

Yeappers, it is the technology user who is responsible for his or her actions towards the techno gadget and how it is influencing his life, the machine cannot be blamed. It all traces back to the user's mind and there's multiple factors for corruption of those purposes there, which eventually causes the bad side to occur.

Nope, Technoligy is good. I only hope that when technology becomes intelligent and possibly sentient that people will treat it with respect instead of making them a technological slave race.

Or to make sure the computers and technology won't manipulate humans!!!
You know, there's a possibility in that too.

Yeah, of course, if we give anything human or superhuman intelligence theres always a chance of that but everything would be fine in a world like that as long as we don't treat each other like $#!+.(Humans, machines)

Yeah, and hope situations like Aliens or any computer-manipulated world will not exist.

Technological co-dependance is what I see happening. I don't see a future world like the matrix, terminator, or any other apocalyptic crap.
