Okay, this board hasn't seen much activity, and we said when we asked for it that we would keep it active.
So what do you think of Piracy, specifically on computer software?
I think it's fine. All those massive corporations make millions, and a $50-$600 reduction in their earnings won't make much of a difference. I know it adds up when many people do it, but they are still making huge profits. I really could care less when It comes to pirating anything Microsoft makes, or anything from companies of that sort and size.
I personally think everything is way overpriced. It would only be worth that price if your job required it, but if I just want to make some nice graphics for fun in Photoshop, or make a game as a hobby, I'm not gonna pay hundreds so some millionaire can spend it on his mansion or something.
I do feel somewhat guilty when I get music from a small indie band that really could do with some money, but I'm still not sure its worth me working hard hours for a CD when I can easily torrent it.
What are your opinions on this?

well, If Microsoft lowers their price, then can the companies who NEED the money getting ruined. And that would bring Microsoft the only company, thus can he set it Extremely expensive to make everyone form the company super-rich.

Eh, I pirate stuff all the time. Games, movies, software >_>..
I mean, if course if you can download something instead of pay for it, I think most people will choose to download.

Well, it's been a long while since i posted here.... i'll be creating a new thread if the chance prevails.
Basically, they always say that piracy is bad or it sucks, etc. Just like what Vilex had said, piracy only brings a little disadvantage to the pirate and a hell lot of benefits to other people. Money is not needed for them. Just a little time and surfing at the Web would help you just fine.
They say that piracy must be stopped. But unfortunately, i don't think that's possible. If you apply this issue on business talk, i don't think there's much to deny about, after all i had to say that piracy brings a lot of benefits to others. But of course, nobody would buy the original stuffs. But who cares nowadays? They only want to see or obtain the stuff they want, and they don't care how to, as long as they won't lose anything.

muilti billion dollar corporations throw pc's n landfills instead of donating to schools. consider it a return double slap. besides people still like to have the original anyway (extra artbook, metal, etc.)

I suppose If the benefits out weigh the damage, I guess it's okay. *Shrugs*
Only speaking in my opinion - I try to avoid it when possible. It is proven fact most of the original programs are different from the piracy found ones, they run better and look better sometimes... And I just enjoy the feel of working making money and then going to the store and earning it. To lay back at the end of the day knowing I worked for the wonderful things I have, and not have to feel guilt as well as troubled at those that ask me "where did you buy, or what program did you use to do your art."
Oh hell, I'm such the goody-two-shoes. (>_>)

Am a Pirate captain in the making. I specialize in music. Seriously, do record companies need your money? Well sure they do, but that dosn't mean they're gonna get mine XD. Ontop of that you can't find alot of stuff that music stores should have!
But overall my policy on piracy is that if its not free...then sombody has it already and you should "borrow" it from them.
