“Our one last chance….our one last hope. For a world being devoured alive, we must use our last ounces of power to fight it…but we cannot do it by ourselves. With that you are born; someone who can go and leave the safety of our leaves, and put an end to the terror itself. This is the task you are commissioned with. This, is the reason why you exist
You are our emissary, you are our avatar, you are our guardian, you…are this world’s only hope.
Now…be this world’s hero…save…our…world….”
And with that, his life began.
Tales of Terresia

Well, I think I might be crazy. another fanfiction retelling of another game.
The game this time? It's Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology. This whole idea's been in my head for a while, and with me getting a little sick a short bit ago, ago, I began writing this. Last night, I finished it on pencil and paper (a nice change of pace) and finally converted it to internets. I will try to stay as semi-close to the cannon of the story (which is kinda weak, since it features 19 tales charactes, which is gonna be tough to give them all mostly fair screentime.) and do a good telling of the story with my own little Nick flavor. And for those who worry, I'm still doing MMZ2.5, I refuse to abandon that story.
And now, let's let the story begin!
Chapter 1- Awakening
Trees and leaves surrounded a young teen laying flat on the ground. His clothes were nothing more then a simple red leather pants and shirt. Hazel hair with eyes closed shut, he laid there on the floor in a pure serene peace.
“Wake up! Your world, Terresia! It’s in real trouble!” said a voice
They were the first words the child ever herd. The sound made him shift from side to side.
“Come on, wake up!” said the voice again.
And with that, his eyes opened for the first time. Pure emerald eyes came about, senses began to take form. The youth slowly began to move for the first time. At first, a simple movement by his limbs followed by him stirring more. Finally, he assumed full control over his body for the first time.
“uhhhhh” Moaned the youth as he fully awoke and his senses came to life. The youth quickly stood up on his two legs for the first time.
The youth looked at the one who had awoken him from his slumber.
It was a small, flying animal. A small white body, wings on his tail kept him afloat in the air, animalistic ears and an adorable face. The youth looked at him and gave a curious glare as to what it was. Out of instinct he stepped back in warning, while his senses told him that the small white flying animal was not hostile in any way, those same senses also told him that the white creature did not belong here.
“You with me now?” Said the animal, seeing the youth was finally awake. “You had me worried for a minute.”
The small white animal looked at the youth. “Are you ok?” it asked.
The youth answered with three simple words “Who…what…where?”
“We’re at the base of the world tree.” It said
The youth looked at him in curiosity
“Oh yes, you don’t know what the world tree is, do you?” Said the creature.
The youth shook his head no.
“Ok then, let me tell you then.” Said the white creature in a happy tone. “The world tree is the source of all life in this world. It’s what gave birth to you just now.”
The youth looked at him, a wild answer it was, but the youth’s senses told him that those words were true. With that, the youth asked his second question “…who…are you?”
“I’m sorry, I forgot to introduce myself. My name’s Mormo! What’s your name?”
The youth didn’t truly think about it, that answer just came to him, he instinctively answered as if he was handed a card with the answer. “…Herro…”
“Herro? That is definitely a fitting name. It’s nice to meet you Herro.” Said Mormo “This world is called Terresia, and you’re a ”Descender”, someone who’s born from Terresia’s world tree to defend it.”
While the answer seemed already known by Herro, the youth, it still was a strange to him.
“You’re probably a little lost, just being born and all. Don’t worry, I’m here for you Herro. See, I’m a descender too, although I’m not from this world though. My world is called Yaoon.” With that said, Mormo thought for a second before he continued. “Hmm…I wonder…do you know anything about decenders? You see, this world is…”
But before Mormo could continue with what he was saying, a scream blasted through the forest and startled both Mormo and Herro.
“A scream?!” Mormo said in shock. “I’ll explain everything later Herro! Come on, let’s follow that voice!”
“…ok…” Said Herro.
“Oh yes, before we go, go pick up your sword ok? You may be needing it” Mormo suggested.
“…I have…a sword?…” Herro said. Looking to the side of him and seeing a blade next to him. Elegant, perfectly crafted metal with a fine tipped blade and a majesticly crafted handguard, this sword would put all others to shame.
“Yes, it’s been there right next to you.” Mormo answered “You do need a way to defend yourself incase you need to fight. Just think of it as your World Tree’s parting gift, it did make it for you after all”
Herro nodded in agreement and picked up the Iron sword and it’s sheath, which he
strapped to his waist. “Are you ready?” Mormo asked Herro.
“Yes…I am” Said Herro, sliding the perfect iron sword inside the sheath. “Let’s…go” He said. With that, the two ran off into action.
Running through the grassy path, they came across the source of the scream in no time as they found two people.
A brown clad soldier stood with his sword in hand, pointing it at a young girl, who looked similar in age to Herro, she had Pink hair and green eyes, wearing a white dress top, and black pants.
“Herro, that girl’s getting attacked! We got to help her!” Mormo said to Herro, seeing the soldier yell at the girl.
“Confess your crimes you spy!” He yelled at the girl. “Admit your treachery and I might just let you live today!”
Herro looked at the scene. His innate sense told him that the man was of vile intentions, every fiber in his being told Herro to stop him.
“I told you, I’m not a spy. I was just gathering some herbs…” the scared girl replied
“SILENCE!” He shouted at the girl. “You’re a spy, and you’re lying to keep your cover.”
“I’m not a spy, please…please” Said the girl, trying to reason with corrupt soldier.
“That’s enough out of you worm” He said. “Under order of lord Ganser all spies are to be executed on sight! Prepair to die!”
Herro had enough, his senses stirred, his fists clenched in anger at seeing his first sight of evil. Grabbing the hilt of his sword, he shouted at the vile soldier.
“Leave her alone!” Herro said, the first words ever spoken firmly and strong.
The dark clad soldier has his helm covering his face, as he lowered his sword and turned to young descender. “I’ve never seen the likes of you before. You’re another spy!” He shouted at Herro.
“…Spies?” Herro said in response to the accusation.
The soldier turned his head and invoked the girl again.
“Yes, I know! You’re that girl’s accomplice! You must be, you’re helping her plot to destroy Ailily!” He shouted at the descender, pointing his sword at Herro. “I’ll kill the whole lot of you!”
Mormo quickly shouted at Herro “Here he comes Herro! Get ready!”
The soldier rushed at the decender, his sword waving in the air. Before Herro could even remove his blade from his sheath, the soldier’s sword came crashing down vertically at Herro. With a simple movement, Herro sidestepped the fierce attack with the greatest of ease. The soldier again went for another slash at the descender, again to no avail when he moved back and dodged the attack.
“ARUGH! Why you!” Cried the soldier as he retracted the blade, then made a stab at Herro.
Herro pulled his blade halfway out with perfect timing, with the soldier’s sword hitting the flat end of Herro’s blade, stopping it immediately on impact. Both sides took a step back after the attack and it’s blocking.
Herro drew the sword fully out of his sheath, following by making a flawless fighting stance. It was finally time for Herro to go on the offensive. He dashed towards the soldier, grabbing his hilt with both hands.
“Too Easy!” the Soldier shouted as he raised his sword horizontally holding both ends with his hands to parry Herro’s coming attack.
“GO….DOWN!” Shouted Herro as he brought his blade down upon the soldier. A glimmer of bright light shined as he made his powerful slash. A crack slowly formed through the Soldier’s sword, followed by a crack forming along the soldier’s helm; Herro’s sword was firmly planted in the ground from the climax of the slash.
“No…way…so…strong…” Muttered the soldier.
And with that he fell apart. His sword cracked apart in two, his helm breaking in half and falling down to the ground. His breastplate armor cracked open from the sheer force of the slash. The Soldier fell down to his knees. “imposs…a…ble” were the soldier’s final words before he collapsed down on the ground.
Herro watched the defeated soldier fall to his knees then collapse. He had no words or comments for his first victory. Looking at the fallen soldier, Herro simply put his blade back in it’s sheath.
“Good job Herro, you saved the girl” Mormo said to Herro, redirecting their attention to the girl. With the danger passed, Herro was able to take a closer look at the girl.
Her hair was a lovely light shade of pink with two twin short braids of hair that ran down both sides of her face. She wore a black headband on her head, which had a single black tulip on the band’s side. Her eyes, like Herro shined a emerald green, and she wore a mostly white dress top; with its expectations being the black sleeves between her gloves and her shoulders, her yellow turtleneck top, and the pair of black adjacent lines that ran down the front which lined the lacing of her dress. The girl wore black leggings, white socks with tan shoes.
As for the girl’s face, it was one in amazement, Herro’s display of power had left her speechless. A awkward moment of silence passed between the three of them; Mormo was the one to break the silence
“Hey, are you ok?” He asked the girl
The girl looked at Mormo with a happy face, and answered with a happy tone, “I’m fine, thanks to you two. Just who are…” but just as she was saying that, a voice shouted and superseded hers.
“Kanonno! I spotted a guard patrol, we need to get……..woah….” Said the voice. Herro, Mormo, and the girl turned around to see a older teen with long blue hair tied up in a single braid, wearing tan pants along with a blue shirt. He was looking down at the defeated soldier in shock.
“Kanonno, did you do this?” He asked the girl
“No Chester; They did, they saved me” Kanonno, the girl replied to him, pointing at Herro and Mormo. With that Chester, the older teen in blue walked up to both Herro and Mormo.
“Thank you for saving my sister, you have my sincerest thanks.” He said as he turned towards Kanonno. “Kanonno, are you alright?” He said to her
“I’m find thanks to these two.” She answered as she turned to Herro and Mormo. “Well um…who are you two?”
With that, Mormo made his introduction.
“I’m Mormo” He said, flapping in the air. “And this here is my friend Herro.”
Chester went next. “Uh, I’m Chester, Chester Barklight” Followed by Kanonno’s turn. “And I’m Kanonno Earhart”
Chester took a look at the oddly dressed decender and the small flying decender “I haven’t seen you around before, are you two refugees?” He asked
Herro and Mormo both looked at eachother with a question mark riding over their heads.
“What?” Herro said. “What do you mean?” Mormo said.
Chester was quick on his reply. “Well, you’re not from here are you? Where’d you come from then?” He asked.
Before Mormo could respond to the question, Herro did. “I came from…the world tree”
Mormo, Chester, and Kanonno looked at Herro in shock.
“I cannot believe he just said that” Mormo thought in embarrassment as a sweatdrop passed through their three heads.
“What?” Chester said in confusion.
“Well…I’m a…” But before Herro could reveal more, Mormo’s quick acting kicked in. “We came into this area from around the world tree.” Mormo was quick to say.
And it paid off. “Ohhhhhhh” Chester said. “Well, in any case you’re refugees, and you’re pretty lucky to make it this close to town in one piece.”
“Why?” Mormo asked “It is because there are more soldiers like where this one came from?”
“Exactly. You won’t be able to get in town normally.” Chester said, before closing his eyes and going into thought. Kanonno, looking at him, then asked a question. “Chester, why don’t we help them get into town?”
Chester smiled “That’s exactly what I was thinking sis.” Chester then opened his eyes. “We can help sneak you two into town. It’d be the least we could do for you two.”
“We’d love it” Mormo said “This place isn’t looking so good right now if there’s more of those soldiers running around here”
“Perfect” Kanonno then said. “Let’s go to town. Lead the way Chester!”
“Sure thing sis, you three follow me and we’ll be out of here in no time.” Said Chester as he began to walk on.
Shortly, the three followed suit as they followed Chester to the exit, which in truth was the forest’s entrance to the world tree.
But as Herro began walking, he stopped for a second and turned around, looking upward at the treetops.
“You see something?” Chester asked, turning around to see what the matter was.
“No…” Herro said. “I guess, it was nothing…” said Herro looking in that direction, they turning back and continued walking with the others.
“Alright then, to Ailily it is!” Mormo said, as the party of four walked off, exiting the scene of the battle.
…
Minutes passed, and with the coast clear, a figure shrouded in a black cloak appeared from the treetops and landed feet first near the fallen soldier.
“So…Terresia has formed it’s own Decender.” The shadowy figure said. “This is definitely a interesting turn of events…although whether this is to my advantage or not still remains unseen. If I manage to sway him to join me first, he may prove to be a powerful ally.”
After the shadowy figure said that, the figure then turned his attention to the fallen soldier on the ground and made a quick inspection of the body to confirm the result of the battle.
“Amazing…with one hit he really did kill him after all. I suppose that’s good for me.” Said the figure as he began walking away from the body.
“Noone can know of the descender’s existence…at least not yet.”
