Yup. It's that time of the year again folks. This day, seven years ago, terrorists affiliated with al-Qaeda hijacked four commercial airliners, and intentionally crashed two of the airliners into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, killing everyone on board and many others working in the building, causing both buildings to collapse within two hours, destroying at least two nearby buildings and damaging others. The hijackers crashed a third airliner into the Pentagon. The fourth plane crashed into a field near Shanksville in Pennsylvania, after some of its passengers and flight crew attempted to retake control of the plane, which the hijackers had redirected toward Washington D.C. Nearly 3,000 people died that day.
I know we had a thread like this several years ago, but let's take a little bit of our time here to honor the dead and remember where we were on 9/11, and how it effected us.
The morning of September 11th, 2001, I was only about 11 years old. I was asleep on the couch and was awakened by my parents talking about the news, where it had shown an "accident" where a plane crashed into one of the World Trade Center buildings. I didn't think much of it other than "Oh man, that sucks." and got up and got ready for school.
Shortly after we got to school (we being my brother, sister, and I) our teacher turned on the news, and we saw that the second building was hit. That was when it became evident that this wasn't an accident, and the teachers were all talking about terrorists. When I got home that afternoon, I learned about the other two planes.
Now me, being a proud American, I wasn't about to let us get killed and sit by and do nothing about it. This is why I support our War on Terrorism so much. Many people seem to have forgotten about 9/11. I haven't. I'll admit, the war on Iraq has little to do with 9/11, but we're not here to talk about that.
May those who died be remembered, and God Bless America.
