McKINNEY — North Texas police and school officials are now warning parents about a newly-popular concoction that combines Pop Rocks candy with dangerous and addictive methamphetamines. McNeil Elementary sent a note to parents warning them about the drug called "Strawberry Quick." Julian Fernandez, whose six-year-old daughter attends the school, said he was glad he was informed about the drug mixture. "I would rather know too much information ahead of time than not enough information too late," he said. Fernandez said he sat with his daughter, Angel, to talk about the drug after receiving the note. "She understood it real well," he said. And Angel was more than happy to repeat her newly learned information. "He said, 'Don't take candy because it might be poisonous, and I heard on the news there's this 'cheese,'" she said. "If anybody offers me cheese, don't take it." She also said she knows drugs are out there in different shapes and forms. The Drug Enforcement Agency said strawberry-flavored meth is creating a younger generation of users who don't know they're getting addicted. It's been sold in several states, including Texas. "Their hook is to get a new generation hooked on this stuff so they can have buyers and new profit margins until they kill that clientele," said Capt. Randy Roland of the McKinney Police Department. While McKinney police haven't arrested anyone for selling the flavored meth yet, the school district said the note was a way to give parents a heads-up.
