Uhhhh.... Well, though this bill is a good idea (kind of) it has some obvious flaws.
I don't like that "reckless" part, as it's way too vague, and the life in prison thing is just a little too extreme if you ask me.
But I do think you should be punished for intentional miscarriages. Since it's extremely dangerous to the mother and of course kills the baby.
If you're gonna kill your baby, at least go and do it the traditional way with an abortion. Less likely to kill you in the process somehow at least...

Yeah, but I dont like that I could go to jail for trying to teach a fetus self defense.
In all seriousness here though, I think this bill is bullcrap. As was stated in the article it can't really be enforced seeing as though 1 in 4 pregnancies end in a miscarriage. Also, abortions aren't exactly a cheap procedure, and if woman had to resort to having some dude punch her in the gut to save money, that to me seems to be a symptom of an issue already on the table. And though having somebody punch you in the gut might be a rather unethical abortion, really then it yields the same result, so they should just vote to make abortions illegal in the state instead of this weird ass grey area law. I honestly think this law was just made so some guy could get a bit of credibility in politics.
Edit: Sorry for the lack of flow, wrote that while watching Terminator 2.

I agree. It's a stupid bill. The resources they'd be wasting, opening up a new case every time a woman got a miscarriage, would be unthinkable. And something was seriously wrong with that woman for actually PAYING a guy to beat her up and cause her to miscarriage. People in this country amaze me.
I agree with Nightmare, (holy sh*t) life in prison is a bit extreme. Just get an abortion if you don't want your child, or better yet, give it up for adoption. What's so wrong about waiting the 9 months and then just giving the baby up? If the baby wasn't wanted in the first place, then kids shouldn't be having unprotected sex. Unless it was rape... but I'm not opening that can of worms.

Unless it was rape... but I'm not opening that can of worms. Cause waiting 9 months while pregnant is going to hinder the woman's ability to preform at work. We don't have pregnancy leave. Hopefully she has a job where she can sit, if she's a waitress or something she's kinda screwed. That and the cost of going back in forth to the doctors to ensure that the baby is doing ok is going to add up real quick. If she didn't have the money for the abortion then I'm guessing she's not gonna be able to cover having the child even up to the point at which to give it away, which wouldn't have been an issue if she got punched in the stomach or had an abortion w/e. As for the not having a kid in the first place, then yeah gonna have to agree that having unprotected sex is dumb unless you want kids. However condoms don't work 100% of the time and I've got plenty of horror stories to back that up =P And then yes of course there's the rape potential. I don't think you should be punished for an intentional miscarriage, because I'm pretty sure nobody gets pregnant with the intention of getting punched in the gut. And with that in mind, it would have had to have been a last resort for the person.

I somewhat agree, but I don't really care how much you can't afford it, find a way to come up with the abortion rather than the Falcon Punch method.
It's unimaginably irresponsible and appalling to encourage beating up pregnant women to terminate their pregnancies. Last resort, whether or not she wanted it, it doesn't matter, it's not cool. At all.
If you don't want the baby, give it up. If you don't want to have the baby, get an abortion. If you don't want to get an abortion, don't have unprotected sex. If you don't think the condom/birth control will work, don't have sex.
If you can't afford an abortion, you're probably pretty young and have no business going around screwing people anyway.

Or you're poor and have no income because the economy is crap. And telling people not to have sex is like telling people not to breathe. Playing devil's advocate here XD Regardless this law is stupid, over the top, and rather unneeded.

/sigh The lack of the law didn't encourage people to go around having Falcon punch abortions. )_) You're right there, but I was referring to you when I said that bit, not the law. =P I know you probably aren't advocating Falcon Punch abortions, but you're not sounding like you're denouncing them, which you should be. "If you can't afford an abortion, you're probably pretty young and have no business going around screwing people anyway." Or you're poor and have no income because the economy is crap. If you're poor and have no income you wouldn't be able to afford condoms and birth control, so again you have no business going around screwing people. Besides, abortions are pricey, yes, but they're not unreasonable. It's not like buying a car, it's a lot easier to come up with the money for it. And telling people not to have sex is like telling people not to breathe. Except you don't die from not having sex and lots of people do abstain from it for extended periods of time. (Not ragging on sex, but that is a pretty weak argument on your part.) Playing devil's advocate here XD Regardless this law is stupid, over the top, and rather unneeded. I concur. Though I don't think it's a poor idea to punish people who intentionally cause miscarriages, I think this particular bill was written poorly and will probably cause more trouble than it will fix.
