Captain Jace “Duster” Keller sighed happily as he walked aboard the newly commissioned heavy Carrier “Enyo” named after a Greek goddess of war. The carrier was a thing of beauty, 5 heavy artillery guns, 4 long-range flak turrets, 8 torpedo mid-sized torpedo bays and 4 anti-fighter pulsar turrets. The ship truly lived up to its name. Of course turrets and torpedo’s were not the true power of the Enyo. That was in the 5 fighter squadrons it housed within its massive hull. Each squadron was made up of 10 fighter/interceptors and 3 medium bombers, and 2 heavy bombers. Well, 4 of the 5 squadrons that is, one squadron was completely made of the new drone Swarm fighters, 15 of them all together. These drones, controlled by a single hive mind AI were tasked with guarding the Enyo when the rest of the squadrons were tasked elsewhere.
Jace Keller was on his first tour of duty aboard a starship. In his 7 years of flight experience he’s served only on space stations. Of course those were stations generally near war zones so he had plenty of flight experience. His long list of medals and commendations proved his skills to even the most skeptical of pilots. He was rather excited about the prospect of carrier duty. Especially since his cousin, Landon “Shadow” Orin and best friend Evan “Reaper” Segra were also touring with him, same squad even. They were both Commanders, one rank below Jace. Something he never failed to rub in. Jace paused as he walked the corridors to get a look at the rest of the roster for Alpha squadron. The squadron was broken up into 3 wings, the first wing composed of 5 interceptors, the second had 2 heavy fighters and 3 medium bombers, the third had 3 heavy fighters and the 2 heavy attack bombers. He scrolled down the list and saw his name, along with Evan and Landon’s for the first wing. Flying with them was a guy named Alan “Protector” Dorvak and a Zachery “EP” Reynolds. “EP huh? Wonder what that stands for.” He wondered aloud. He sighed and looked out the porthole to his right and saw his fighter being loaded into the hanger bay just a deck below him. “Oooh, gotta go make sure they don’t scratch the paint or mess with my engine mods, damn techies can never keep their hands off them. Fixing them to their own distorted view of how a fighter should be.” HE rushed down to the nearest lift and went down to the hanger bay.

Shadow screamed at one of the techies trying to get at his fighters cloaking device. They were spouting some nonsense about it being non-standard and that it must go. HE was about to hit one over the head with a laser wrench when he saw his cousin come down the lift. “Hey Captain! Use your rank and get these techies away from our stuff!”
At the mention of Jace’s rank the techies scrambled away to attend to other ships. “Hey Shadow.”
“Hey, Duster-“
“Jace”
“what?”
“Sorry, I should’ve mentioned it before. I’d rather we stuck to our real names on-ship. At least for awhile. Callsigns stay for out there in space. Got it Sha- Landon.”
“Yeah I got it Jace. Gonna take awhile to get used to.”
“I know. But.. Anyways, techies giving you problems?”
“Just the usual, kept them away from Evan’s fighter as well as ours. Man, you’d think with all the extra’s we have more then just the techies would complain.”
“Well, I had the chance to ask central command once. They approve hell they wonder why our designs haven’t gone into production. Probably pride on the manufacturers part.”
Landon shrugged, “Yeah. At anyrate, people never think fighters cloak. But mine does heh.”
“Yeah, not to mention that black paint job. Horrid to see. And all that electronic warfare equipment scramble their sensors. Why we call you Shadow. Heh.”
“Yeah. But I mean, my ship is no match for yours. You’ve all those advanced sensor suites, and the speed and maneuverability is matched by none. It’s like a Scout, only better armor and weapons. Same speed and sensor tech though. Very nice.”
“Thanks, though if it’s weapons you want...”
Evan came down the lift panting. “If it’s fighters filled with weapons you want. You want my fighter, Speed and maneuverability of an interceptor. Weapons close to that of a heavy fighter. Kills the enemy dead. And then some.”
Jace laughed, “That it does. That it does.”
