Chapter 1 - Beware of sleeping ninjas
The boy yawned. The young teenager was sleeping in his bed, dreaming 1000 beautiful dreams. But of course, fate would make sure this would not last.
Soon enough, something disrupted the young boy’s sleep. Something was touching him. Not fully awake and aware, his brain only a quarter of the way on, he felt more of the lump of mass rubbed up against him, gently flowing across his chest and onto the other side of the bed.
It was like that for 15 minutes until his brain finally but began to kick on inch by inch. With his sleepy brain sending the command, his eyes opened slightly and he began to look. “Yep…” He though. An arm was definitely against his chest.
“What about the rest of the thing...” He thought, still not awake, his eyes slowly trailed to add in more information to the soon-to-be-awoke boy.
His eyes slowly trailed the path of the arm to figure out what the rest of it was.
“…hand…arm…shoulder…head…yep…” He computed, moving his head ever so slightly more to catch a glimpse at the sleeping figure that’s arm was wrapped around his.
“Yep… It’s a girl…” He finally concluded, now almost awake. “She’s right next to me….”
A moment passed as the thought sunk in.
“……………………….”
“………………………..”
“WAIT, WHAT!?” The boy’s eyes widened as fast as glass shattering.
The gears of the young man’s brain finally rocketed into full speed, then greased up and kicked into overdrive.
There was a girl lying in his bed.
On top of him.
Sleeping like a rock.
Within 5 seconds fried with shock, he jetted backwards away from the sleeping girl and launched himself right off the bed, landing backfirst onto the ground below in a loud oomph.
“W-what…what the heck!” He exclaimed on the ground, totally in shock.
The rocketfuel in his brain slowed down to normal, the boy’s mind returning to him.
“What…what the heck is going on.” He muttered to himself, bringing himself from his butt and back up right and on his knees. The teenager finally got his body up and got his chance to finally observe his sleepy intruder.
“If this is another one of Luna’s pranks…” He said just before he got his glimpse at the sleeping girl.
If it was just a party crasher, if it was some drunk girl from a party down the street, or even worse a robber who feel asleep on the job. That might be in realm of normal for our young hero.
“What?” He said to himself. “You’ve got to be kidding me”
Of course, if it was any of that we wouldn’t have a story now would we?
“A…a ninja?” He muttered.
Yes. A girl dressed completely in black, with ninja class sandals and a mask to boot.
The ninja girl laid there on his bed, unmoving and out cold like a corpse in a coffin.
The boy began to wonder how the heck this even happened. “How the heck did this even happen?”
See? Exactly like I said. Anyway, the boy stood up and began to think about how it could of happened. He slowly and easily ruled out the “sane” answers
He had no visitors the previous day, noone came over nor did any stay for the night.
He definitely didn’t get drunk last night. Aside that he doesn’t have nor would want to.
Both of them were fully clothed, so it’s not like anything naughty happened. Heaven forbid if it was he’d want to remember that.
Taking a look to his window, he discovered how the girl got in his room in the first place. The window not closed as it usually is, but blowing wide open. She got in through the window, like any good ninja would.
“So…who the heck is this girl?” He said to himself as he walked over to her side of the bed to get a better look. Studying her backside, he wondered if she actually was even alive. The girl was motionless in his bed. No motion, no anything. So to see if she was alive or not, he did what any reasonable person would do.
He poked her.
After the third poke, the motionless body finally did motion. The sleeping ninja moaned and rolled over on her back, muttering under her breath as her body tried to wake her up in failure. As quickly as she showed life, the ninja girl became motionless once again.
“Hm, better view” The boy said taking another look at the female ninja.
“But...what’s behind that mask…” He said.
He could see that she had short pink hair, but that was pretty much it. So, he reached in with his hand, and lifted and pulled the white mask of this mysterious sleeping ninja.
A young, cute revealed itself to the world. A girl that cute sleeping in his bed.
“She’s cuter then I thought” he thought with a little chuckle, something he’d never admit out loud. Well, unless I’m narrating it. Hahaha.
The boy at first tried to think how old this girl was.
“16…19…” He thought to himself. “Oh forget it I’m not even trying. I can never tell how old girls are now-a-days.” He thought to himself, remembering his previous mistakes of guessing a girl’s age. It earned him a fist to the gut.
Taking another guess at the girl’s figure, he noticed the girl had no weapons on her. He blew a sigh of relief. No bulges where they shouldn’t be, not really anything except for a medium sized bag she had around her waist attached to her belt.
“Hm. Probably her ninja tools or something” He said, letting curiosity get the better of him.
Leaning foreward, he reached for her, undid the strap and plucked the bag that was fastened by her waist. He quickly backed off and moved into the middle of his room, completely unaware of the sheathed katana that was by his bed.
“Let’s see what’s inside” He said out loud. He rummaged through it, and quickly felt something. Pulling it out. It was a smoke bomb.
Typical, for a ninja.
He took out other objects inside. A bandage cloth (they’re for wrapping wounds, of course), a Manriki Chain (a chain with heavy ends), those little ninja tacks (they’re called Caltrops people), a folded grappling hook with a rope attached to it (honestly, you people are idiots if you don’t know these things), and among them this weird rune or relic thingy that seems to have no purpose (ok ok, I take that back. I don’t know this one).
Which said thingy caught the eye of our young friend, he picked up. He gazed at it with his dark brown eyes, wondering what it could be. Many thoughts plowed through his head. What could it be?
A relic of an ancient statue?
A good luck charm?
Some rare archeological treasure from a forgotten age that’s worth millions (oh he wishes)
Maybe it’s some fragment of a broken seal that is supposed to seal an evil demon? (You read too much fantasy if you believe this)
A personal memento? (That could make sense, could be from her first mission or something)
Some magical stone that can do amazing things? (Insert your own joke here, I’m too lazy to do it)
Or it could be just a simple rock and it takes a whole season before our heroes find that out for themselves? (now wouldn’t that be funny)
Regardless of what it actually was, to our teenage friend it was nothing but a simple stone at the moment. Not much of a chance to analyze it whe…
The boy hears a moan. His eyes darted over to the ninja girl
She was moving.
Her legs kicked as she moved a little bit. The boy watched in shock and slight horror as the ninja that laid in his bed was about to awaken. While he was holding her stuff. Cue the “you idiot!” thought that rang in his head. He quickly placed the rock/relic/whatever thingy down neatly on his dresser right next to his other things and turned to the awakening ninja…
“ano…ther…five….minut….mom…” she muttered under her breath as she stopped moving once again, falling back into the deep sleep once again.
Boy was he lucky
Our boy blew a sigh of relief as he turned to his belongs messed across his room. It was like he generated a tornado in his bedroom, or at least that’s how he thought about it. It wasn’t a trash dump, but it wasn’t good either. Water bottle here, some clothes and newly purchased schoolbooks on the floor there, a grimoire on the floor next to it, video game stuff on his dresser, and some random stuff laying on to his computer desk.
You know, the usual.
The boy decided to do a half-assed clean up. If there was a girl about to awaken in his room, he might as bloody well. Besides, he remembers how Luna’s been bugging him to clean this room anyway. With good reason if you ask me. All of you kidos should clean your rooms.
He quickly went to work. Grabbing his clothes, that grimoire, and everything that was on his dresser the boy shoved everything into his closet with half-assed haste.
Looking around at the quick improvements, the boy decided it was enough (despite what yours truly believes).
He turned again to the ninja girl. Still sound asleep. As a matter of fact, the only sound in the room came from a bird outside chirping its song.
He thought to himself and decided to close the window. He didn’t want any loud noises from the outside to wake up his sleeping ninja friend. Heaven knows she’d have a bad reaction to that.
Although, what he didn’t notice was the girl. Her body moved as she began to wake up.
He walked up near the girl’s side of the bed, where the window was and he closed it, while the girl stretched her limbs and yawned as she slowly awoke from her slumber.
“There…” The boy said to himself, turning around to see the cute sleeping ninja girl.
Too bad she wasn’t asleep anymore.
He turned around and saw her. Laying on his bed, her head slightly kicked up to view the boy whose bed she invaded. They both glanced at eachother and their locked upon eachother. The boy’s dark brown eyes and the ninja girk’s lovely bright blue eyes.
This lasted for a moment as both looked at eachother in shock.
The boy’s intruder had just awakened
The girl found herself in a bed that wasn’t hers
The girl then catapulted herself backwards in shock, just like the boy upon his awakening.
She gasped in embarrassment “Oh my go…ahhhh-!”
And just like the boy, launched herself right off the bed, landing in the exact same place he did.
She shot back up, her body tense with embarrassment.
“Oh my god…what the heck happened?” She quickly said in her panic, looking left and right getting a glance at this place she just woke up in.
“I should be asking you that.” The boy said in response. “I was the one who woke up to find you in my bed latching onto me like a teddy bear. Why the heck did you break into my room?!”
“Um-um” said the girl, in her early morning panic, remembering the night before. “I’m very sorry!” She said with a traditional apologetic bow. The boy really didn’t expect her to say that.
“I was really tired, it dark outside, and I needed a place to rest for a moment. I didn’t think I’d fall asleep like that” the girl was red with her admission with panic and embarrassment fueling through her.
“Ahh…” He said as he took a yawn “Well. It’s alright. No harm no foul.” He was ok with it It was too early to get stressed out. It was definitly one heck of a weird way to wake up; but, nobody got hurt, nothing bad happened, and he managed to keep “that” hidden from a ninja, so everything’s ok.
“What brought you here anyway?” He asked, curious about what led this ninja girl to sleep in his room.
The Ninja almost answered “Well, I don’t think I’m al-”
“Nick?”
Both the boy and girl froze as a new voice revealed itself.
A voice from outside the door spoke.
“Nick, is that you?” said by a young and cute female voice. Around the voice of a 12 year old or so.
Both the girl and Nick, the boy looked at eachother quietly. Quickly, the girl became silent while the boy answered the call.
“Um yea Luna, It’s me. Everything’s fine” he calmly said.
“Who was that voice? I herd someone else in there.” Quickly followed with “Was that a girl in there?”
Nick walked up to the edge of the door, while the ninja girl just simple and silently turned around, looking at Nick and around the room.
“Oh, no no. Not at all. I-It’s just me Luna. The Tv was on. That’s all, nothing else.” He tried to say without sounding suspicious
Nick and the ninja girl could hear Luna, the cute sounding girl making a pouting like sound through the door, you know what I mean. It meant Luna didn’t exactly buy it.
“You do know what time it is right?” She said through the door.
His response was “Of course Luna.” But the truth was, of course not
Meanwhile, the ninja girl with some classic ninja skill moved silently across Nick’s (so called) clean room and found her sheathed katana on the floor next to the bed. She went and picked it up without making a sound.
“If you know then what are you doing in there?” She asked back
“I’m just…umm…cleaning the room a bit first.” He replied
“Now?” She said with a sigh. ”I’ve been telling you to do that. Why now?”
The ninja girl checked the katana sword, slowly sliding it out of its sheath. She scanned and examined the blade. It had a few scratches from the mission before, no damage to the handle, and a single nick (no pun int…ok pun intended).
“Everything in order” she thought to herself “Though that dried blood stain from last night probably won’t come out easily. Maybe Taro has som-” She thought before her inner thoughts were cut off by Luna’s response.
“We just moved here and in three days you manage to trash it.” She said with a verbal sigh “Did you know how hard it was to help pack up your stuff in your parent’s house when your room was so messed up? I couldn’t even sleep in your room that night before we left.”
The ninja girl turned her head to the side, getting the tailend of that last line. One eyebrow raised as curiosity ensured.
“Hey, you know what happened. I had to dig everything out before we left. I didn’t want to leave without having everything I needed”. He responded.
“What the heck is their relationship?” The ninja girl thought to herself. She’d soon find out.
“Master…” Luna said with a sigh.
“Master?” The Ninja girl thought to herself confused like a person walking halfway into a movie.
She could see Nick’s palm meet his forehead. He sighed, he knew how it sounded to the ninja girl. “Great Luna” he thought. He was doing fine up until this point.
He did try to stop it with “Luna, I re-“
But Luna interrupted him, not hearing him. “Master, I promised your mother I’d be a bit harder and I wouldn’t let you slack off like you did before when you were in training.” She said in her young voice
“And as the familiar of a magus, it is my duty to help take care of my master and ensure his well being. I made a promise and I’m going to keep that promise.” Luna said through the door.
Both their jaws dropped. The boy’s secret was blown.
Yep. He’s a mage. Didn’t see that coming now did you? (then you missed the grimoire mention then)
I bet I know what you’re thinking. You thought this was another one of those ordinary high school student meets magical girl type shows huh?
I laugh at you and your silly pre-conceived notions.
Ha.
Ha-ha
…..
…now… continuing on before I get sacked by the author’s grunts…
Luna finally dropped the bomb that the boy was avoiding the ninja behind him from finding out.
“…I made a promise I would and I’m going to keep that promise.” Luna said.
Nick’s jaw dropped as his palm met his face once again. “Juuussst Great Luna, just jam a knife in me while you’re at it” he thought “Give the ninja more of a reason to be hostile towards me”.
Boy was he right.
“Mag…us…“You’re…a…magus” the ninja girl muttered.
The girl was shocked at where she had apparently landed. Out of all the places she could have slept, if she slept anywhere else it would have just been mostly a minor ordeal, nothing she couldn’t have gotten out of. But a mage…that was another deal.
Her brain reminded her of what her last encounter with a mage was like. She doesn’t know that much, just the ones she’s encountered. And from what she knew, they don’t like intruders. They don’t like people peeking into their lives or seeing their craft, and most importantly they don’t let intruders leave in one piece.
And she just landed in the bed of one.
“ccccrrrraaaaappppp. This is bad, really bad.” rang through her head
Last time it was her brother who saved her life and bailed her out of her last encounter with that sociopath mage. This time, there was noone to help her, and she her brain drove the fear of what would happen if he got the upper hand.
A kunai was quickly collected in her left hand. She gave it a quick spin as she hid her left hand behind her back, ready to strike and take out the mage at a moment’s notice.
Meanwhile, Nick had no idea of his “friend” was planning.
Of course, the boy’s familiar had no idea of these events either, and continued her interrogation. “Master? Who is that? “I swear I herd som- “
“N-Nothing Luna, nothing at all Luna.” Said the boy trying not make this worse.
Luna didn’t buy it “I honestly thought I he-“
“It’s nothing. Really, it’s nothing at all” Nick said as his thoughts continued the sentence “Cept the ninja in my room.”
Luna wasn’t that happy with the response. But reluctantly she gave in, “…Ok Master, if you say so.”
Nick blew a slight sigh of relief. He wasn’t out of the woods yet.
“Um, Luna, Why don’t you go take out the cereal and get breakfast ready, I’ll be down in a minute to make it.” He said, hoping he’d be alive said minute later.
“Alright Master” she said with a song in her heart. “I’ll see you there.” She said just before Nick and the Ninja girl herd her walking away.
Her footsteps faded from earshot. The interruption was finally gone. Leaving the two finally alone once again.
Nick made the opportunity to turn around to begin to talk to his ninja “friend”, only to find a kunai pointed at his throat the moment he turned around.
Boy did he not see that one coming.
“I don’t want any trouble” Said the ninja girl holding the kunai. His eyes trailed down a bit to see the blade at his neck, he noticed the kunai slightly shaking in her hands.
“Is she scared?” flashed light speed though his head, before turning his eyes back up to the ninja girl and locking eyes with her. One wrong move and…
“I-I don’t either, listen…” Said the boy as he raised his hands in an attempt to calm the girl down. “I’m not any threat at all…can you please put down the knife-”
“Kunai.” She corrected him.
“My bad. S-sorry” He apologized. “I don’t want to cause any harm, I’m not dangerous at all. Please, can you please put down the kunai?”
Her rebuttal was quick and more direct then he thought. “How do I know that you don’t have any sinister plans for me if I drop my guard?”
“You have my word.” He vowed. “I wasn’t even thinking about that. Besides, if I actually was going to do anything to you I would have done it while you were asleep and not waited till you could fight back.” He responded back.
Boy was he right.
Logic snuffed out the fear inside the ninja girl rethinking her thoughts, his words sinking into her. A guilty conscious seeped into her for her jumpy actions.
She lowered her weapon. Nick could see the signs of guilt on her face.
“…I’m sorry…” he herd her say. “I…I haven’t had very good experiences with magi.”
“…I could see that.” He definitely answered. “There are some of us are who really warrant that attitude, and then there are those who aren’t sociopaths and live a normal life as much as a mage can. I’m one of the latter ones.”
Understanding, the two looked up at eachother. “It’s those lunatics who give us freelancers a bad name” Nick said back to the girl
“Freelancer?” She asked.
“I’m not affiliated with any organization. I don’t intend to any time soon either.” He answered.
“First time I heard it that way.” She said, a little bit of happiness in her tone and smile.
“You think I came here fleeing someone?” He piked back “Oh no, not at all, I’m here on a visit. Always wanted to visit this place.”
The ninja girl found her mask once again, and took it back. “Uh-huh” she said to Nick.
As much as we’d like to see a ninja and a mage talk, it had to end. “I..I need to get going” she said “I gotta make contact before they send someone out looking for me”.
It was Nick who went next “And who would that b-actually don’t answer that.” He said cutting himself off. There are some things better off not knowing.
The Ninja girl agreed. “Good choice” she said, quickly going to one last detail to deal with “And...well…about this morning…” she said blushing
“This moment never happened.” Nick said.
“Exactly what I was thinking.” Agreed the ninja girl, before sliding on her mask once and preparing to step out of the window.
She turned and faced the boy mage to say her final goodbye.
”Umm…well...welcome to Japan.” And with that, off she went. She did a ninja jump off the window and disappeared in the light of the rising sun.
This left our hero, the teenage mage Nicholas by himself. Leaving the world for one comment to top off this crazy scene he’s just been subjected to. He knew if this is how his day started, then…
“Today’s going to be one heck of a day…” He said.
Boy will he be right.
End chapter 1
------------------------------------=
How would you react if you woke up with a ninja in your bed?
Well, I thought I’d finally reveal this a project of mine.
The main things that I’ve been writing these days are mostly darker stories (not Darker and Edgier, just not as happy), and eventually I decided I wanted to write something not a crapsack world for a change. Thus this idea began.
Ok, let me begin with the setup
It begins with our hero, (unabashed self insert) Nick waking up in his bed with a ninja girl sleeping right next to him. One comedic awakening scene later, we figure out more about our two. After a embarrassing awakening, the ninja girl apologizes and leaves (and accidentally leaves behind a plot device).
But not before learning Nick’s secret. Turns out our hero isn’t the ordinary high school student that’s normally panned in this role. He’s actually a magus.
Nick is a transfer student in Japan from the United States, here to join in the local private high school, the last gift of his deceased master in magic. With the opportunity of a lifetime, he jumped on his chance to go to the land of the rising sun for the school year, and at the same time try to find out why his master wanted him to go to this specific school as well.
Fate has funny timing, as Nick’s arrival will bring many more things to this town…
And thus begins our story…
Stay tuned for more!
