Keiji, the king of Rockman, has announced his retirement from the capcom company. This is not a hoax, joke, attempt to make Tony rage moment. This is for real. www.themmnetwork.com/2010/10/29/keiji-quits/Questions are raised. What is to come of Universe? Legends 3, his dream comes and he then quits? How much longer will Rockman go on? Will X9 even come? With all these questions, I have to say that I for one, am glad. While its a shame to see him leave because he is the databank of all Rockman information, I now have hope for some fan titles to be released such as X9, ZX 3, and so on. Likewise, I have an ounce of hope that we will jump OUT of this retro 8-bit and return to a progressive style. I do think, we all need to take a moment of silence for this. .....

I can't understand why he'd up and leave as right after Capcom finally approves Legends 3, which most of you know is his baby. Makes me think Capcom wrestled some aspect of control away from him and made some decision he couldn't stand, or that this could be a publicity stunt. Call me skeptical but I don't know what Capcom wouldn't do if it drew more attention for Legends 3.
So who now will fill Inafune's shoes? Or will Capcom just let Legends 3 fade away, never to see completion now?
Assuming they had a competent successor then I'm not too heartbroken over this, I've been saying for awhile that it would be good for Capcom to let someone else steer the ship for awhile.

It came as a shock to me too. Well, he said previously that he was under a lot of stress, so under that circumstance it's not surprising for anyone to quit just like that.
It's a bit too early to speculate on this, but it is possible that the entire Megaman might go even more downhill than it already is, in spite of the developments of Megaman Online, Legends 3 and MMU. It feels ... detached, I think, now that the creator is gone.

A guy from NeoGaf translated an entire interview of 4Gamer with Keiji on October 18th - way before the announcement in TMMN appeared - and it seems he quit for some very profound reasons. Enjoy this amazingly long interview. www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=411847
