A tale of a character from MMBN: Maximum Operation
Zeron and Stephan Reiken: Rise and Fall
Some years ago before the creation of reploids and all the changes that came with the new net beings there was the Kuro Syndicate. While the Kuro Syndicate was active for the first time, a young teenager, Stephan Reiken, one day found a Shadow PET that contained the Shadow Navi, Zeron. Where he came from, Zeron did not know. His abilities, rare at the time for any Navi to have, were dark, but his heart was seemingly pure and courageous. The two got along well together, and Stephan became a proficient Operator, obtaining the most basic NetBattler License. They were required at the time for any Netbattler to allow them to perform INBA missions. The Netbattling team did fairly well for themselves as they started using the license in Stephan's free time after school. As they transversed the Net Society, Zeron's potential started to reveal itself, showing powers that involved EvilChips. Despite all of their good doings, they found that Zeron's power made most wary of their intentions, as those who can use EvilChips are normally Corrupt themselves. Few trusted Zeron's shadowy powers who saw them in action, but that didn't stop the young team from doing their best in their missions with good and pure intentions. After completing so many missions for the INBA, the pair increased their license level and got to take missions that forced them to travel to other countries, sometimes just over the Net and other times Stephan had to go their in person. In their travels, Stephan and Zeron did acquire the respect and friendship of some few other Navis and people, once they experienced Stephan's and Zeron's presence and got to saw the good within.
The pair continued like this for some months, month after month earning new battlechips and more Zenny with each mission. They experienced their share of losses like any other team, failing the occasional mission and such, but it did little to phase them. However, then came the hardest time of their career thus far. The day the INBA called out to all brave Netbattlers together to fight the good fight against the Kuro Syndicate. As any other average person, Stephan and Zeron had heard the rumors of the dark organization, but never experienced them directly. They went with the Officials, and got transported to Kotobuki to assist in the operation. The two made their own way through the local NetArea, and found themselves fighting a DarkSoul. Not an easy task, to defeat the DarkSoul of another Navi, but Zeron's particular power gave him an edge over the average Navi. They finished off the corrupt data and continued on to the deepest part of the Local net where everyone else gathered up, including major figures of modern history, Protoman, Megaman, and Kendoman. They found themselves up against a CyberBeast, a Legendary being much more powerful than any mere virus or Navi. KuroDark was its name, and it utilized the powers of the Dark, annilating Navi after Navi, and seriously injuring Zeron. However, as the battle seemed against the Navis, ProtoMan and Megaman showed just whose boss around here, and finished the Cybeast.
At the moment the Cybeast let out its final cry, Zeron felt a change, something clicked inside his programming when the Cybeast of Shadows broke apart by, in part, Zeron's hands. They walked away from the incident, given an award for above and beyond the call of a civilian, and went back home to ordinary life. However, a few months later Zeron found his programming to change and grow, his powers started to build upon themselves. He gained greater power to control the Dark energies, to control the power of DarkChips and to corrupt Solar Power Chips and turn them into full fledged Shadow Chips. With these newfound abilities, the pair continued to excel in everylife and everyday missions, though both wondered how it happened, knowing that it had to do with KuroDark. Putting that aside, after a couple years the team was finally invited to tryout and become an Offical Netbattler. At such a young age, the pair performed and excelled in the long series of challenges they were given, standards much higher and more difficult than anything they've ever done, besides the KuroDark incident. However, before the final swearing in, Zeron took on another mission that was once thought to be his last. Stephan operated Zeron into the depths of the Undernet to assist a wayward Swordsman by the name of Hyrule. However, once Zeron found the client, Zeron was doomed. He entered the room and started to initiate a conversation, when the traps sprung and severely damaged the Shadow Navi. Out of the shadows came the young but well equipped Navi Assassin, Hunterman. Employed by the remnants of the Kuro Syndicate, the Navi targeted Zeron for his participation in the defeat of the syndicate and for his eminent promotion to Offical status. Immediately, the assassin initiated Shadow Routine, a special BattleRoutine developed by the Kuro Syndicate to battle against the cowardly Soul Unison Navis. While Zeron was neither, the Routine prevents log out and severely damages those who attempt Soul Unison. The key part, is that it causes ultimate corruption, true deletion. It targets the Navi's Soul when they get deleted, and annihilates the Soul sending it to MurkLand, the land of all that is lost. After a valiant effort by Zeron, even severely damaged his life energy had still exceeded the young hunter at first, Hunterman pulled off a finishing move and deleted the Shadow Navi.
