Yeah I'm stealing the thread from Endless Fight, what of it. I'm honestly surprised ZV doesn't have this thread for itself, I'm sure we've all been to concerts. So which one's have you been to? Which were good, bad, are there any that the rest of us just have to see? Feel free to share any stories associated with them.
--------------------------
For my part, the first concert I ever went to was Three Days Grace headlining with two cover bands. It wasn't so great a time, mostly because the girl I took started getting a headache because of the noise (something you've got to expect, its a concert right?) and she started giving me a headache so I don't remember the show much. It was in a local club so not that large a venue, that may have contributed.
The second concert I went to was Buckcherry and Jet. Jet was ok, Buckcherry was really good. Their singer is this skinny dude and his feet will never stop moving, he's locked into this funny little dance. Sat in the balcony but saw some crazy put action down on the floor. Great time.
One of my favorite concerts was Avenged Sevenfold. Great sound quality, great stage presence, not overly preachy. Also the first concert I ever got to dance at, the others I'd been occupied or felt awkward. I sat in the balcony most of the time but had the option to go down to the floor which I did later. I had a really good time.
For my girlfriend's birthday I took her to see Paramore, her favorite band. It also happened to be one of the bands she listens to that I don't hate entirely so it worked out. It was also her first concert, and I could tell she was feeling a little jealous that I went with my best friend to Buckcherry and Avenged Sevenfold so I knew it was her turn. But at the time I still kinda thought concerts were more fun with a group of guys, still hadn't quite gotten over my horrible first experience. Anyhow, regarding the show. It was pretty good, she's actually better live than recorded in my opinion. Had one cover called the Swellers that were actually decent, there was another cover called paperboy or paper route or something and they were awful. And the sound might have been too good, because I went to the bathroom during their set and I could still hear everything. Bought her a t-shirt, she was thrilled and I didn't have that bad a time myself.
Powerglove. Oh hell yes. And they were actually the cover for a band called Sonata Artica who were pretty good themselves but I'd be lying if I said I didn't buy the tickets to see Powerglove play. It was pretty good, the venue was this bar which opened up into a garage or loading dock or something where the band played, so you could sit inside and sip drinks and watch through the windows or play pool, or go into the garage and stand in front of the band. And they were amazing. They started off with Tetris and moved into Metal Kombat, Metal Man stage, Storm Eagle, X-Men, Transformers, Mario Minor and finally Power Rangers. My only regret was that their set felt too short, but they were the cover after all. Was great to hear everyone chanting "fudge that bird!" to Storm Eagle's song and "Do the Mario!" at the start of Mario Minor. And the mosh pit was awesome. I got roughed up a bit but it was the funnest mosh pit I'd ever been in. Really cool.
Went to see Papa Roach earlier this year with my friend, he had to go and rate the show for a school project so I said what the hell and joined him, his girlfriend and his younger brother. P Roach isn't my favorite band ever but they're not bad. Although I somehow got them confused with Foo Fighters the day of, I'd been blasting the Foo all day to psyche myself up for the concert so I was a little disappointed when it wasn't them. Lolz. Anyhow the venue sucked, was very cramped but on the way there we'd decided we were going to try and push our way to the front row in front of the stage. Very bad idea. We got separated as the crowd got more resistant with me and my friend's brother pushing our way forward. I think it was his first concert too, poor bugger. I found out later that it got too rough for my friend and his girl, he was afraid she'd be hurt so they pulled out. As it was he had to take a few hits for her. The crowd was hot, sweaty and angry, P Roach was taking awhile to come out and so some unfriendly moshing occurred, where people try to hurt one another instead of just good natured shoving and wild dancing that I enjoy. Made it with the brother to about three rows from the stage where the crowd just solidified, couldn't move a muscle, my arms were pretty much pinned to my sides. And at some point when the show started I dislocated the little finger of my right hand in a mosh. Its the risk you take though. The show was pretty good, I just think I'd have enjoyed it more if I were on the floor above watching from a balcony, the issue was that the second floor was 21+ and his gf was 20 at the time and his brother was 16 or 17 and we weren't going to abandon them. Pretty good, but I grade it down due to the sweaty crowd and my injury.
And most recently I saw Flogging Molly the week before St. Pattys Day. I brought my good friend again, telling a somewhat sad girlfriend that it'd probably be too rough on her, that I expected it to be a bunch of drunken Irish hooligans. I couldn't have been more wrong. See I hadn't counted that because Flogging Molly is an older group they would have older fans. And I saw more senior citizens at that concert than I'd ever seen anywhere barring retirement homes and Old Country Buffets. There were some punks closer to our group in the pit, some hot girls too but the trouble was we couldn't get down there. The old folks would not let us pass, and its not like I was going to shove an old woman out of my way to get there. We tried to slip past through some gaps but we just got yelled at and in the end we settled for being shoved up against the bar and having to stand on our tiptoes to see the show. But it was a fantastic show. I tried to dance as well as I could but there wasn't a whole lot of space and I was pressed up against a guy that smelt like rotten bologna. But everyone in the pit was having a fantastic time. There was some moshing that I could see, but just a lot of good natured dancing. I dunno, there's just something about Irish music, makes me feel cheery. And the lead singer was a really cool old dude, he wasn't preachy like some shows you go to, he wasn't just up there to get paid, looking like he can't wait to finish the set and go backstage. He was a legitimately good man and it was just blatantly apparent, truly a caring individual who loves his fellow man. The group came back for 3 encores after their set too, it was fantastic, and after the show instead of retreating backstage they all went across the street to the bar to shmooze with whoever wanted to come by. Probably the best concert I've been to, would've blown Avenged Sevenfold in 2nd place out of the water had I gotten down to the pit and away from rotten bologna guy but as it stands they were close.
I'm thinking of going to see Motely Crue this summer, but we'll see if I can get the time off. I'm thinking again it'll be a guys outing if I go, which makes me kind of sad because I know the girlfriend is sad she always gets left behind, but concerts just feel like they're more fun when I'm with my guy friends. I dunno.
