Awwwhhh maaaaan.... This is the worst part of any Carnival... The end....
It's been fun, you guys, but sadly it's time to say goodbye to another Carnival. We've all had lots of fun, the savage war we saw in this year's event, we saw more participation in the contests than we have in years, and the games seemed to be a big hit this year.
Here comes the only good part about the end of the Carnival; the results!
In addition to the event this year, we also had 3 games, 3 contests, and 3 tournaments. That means 10 badges to give away!
The Event
Let's start with this year's event! Every year since 2008 we've had a big forum-wide event that pit two teams consisting of and lead by members against each other in contests of wits, strategy, and teamwork. This year was no different!
Clash of the Gods -
This year, we had the two teams "The Warriors of Light", lead by Ztrl, and "The Warriors of Discord", lead by Random.
The battles drug on for a long time, it seems the event may have been too complex for the amount of time we had put aside for it, so unfortunately we ended up having to put both teams in one battlefield for a final all-out showdown toward the end of the event.
However, the winners in the end by a landslide were... The Warriors of Discord!
As such, everyone on the Warriors of Discord team will receive the Dark Crystal badge;
Good job, guys! Wear it proudly!
Tournaments
Every year we have at least one gaming Tourney to test our member's skills against each other. This year, we had three!
Super Smash Bros. Brawl -
What would a ZV Carnival be without our Brawl Tourney? We've had one every year since Brawl came out. This year was no different, though we did get a surprisingly low number of contestants compared to what we usually get. No matter, it was still fun.
The game came down to the wire, with Nightmare (meee ) and Swim in the final round! A mirror image of last year's final round, except last year I won by default since Swim had to be out of town the day of our match. I wasn't so lucky this year, though!
And the winner was.... Nightmare! Okay maybe I was.
I get this nifty little Brawl Badge;
The final brackets for the tourney:
Touhou: Unthinkable Natural Law -
Last year we had our first Touhou Tourney, and it turned out to be a lot of fun, with a fair amount of contestants! So we brought it back this year! Unfortunately there was much less participation but it was still a lot of fun!
The final battle came down to Majeh vs Renegade, Renegade being last year's champion, so Majeh had his work cut out for him!
And the winner was... Renegade! Looks like he maintains his title as ZV's Touhou Champion for another year!
Renegade gets another Touhou badge to wear;
The final brackets for the tourney:
Battle Bob -
A game of much less skill than luck, Battle Bob saw an impressive amount of activity, dwarfing the other tourneys in number of contestants.
The battles of luck raged on, each round adding 100 HP to the player's starting amount, eventually ending up at the legendary 500 HP battle between VileMKII and Scarlet!
And the winner was... VileMkII! You're a pretty lucky guy!
You get our first Battle Bob badge pinned to your profile;
The final brackets for the tourney:
Games
Every year we have a variety of small games for the members to partake in! All of them are worth badges, save for the 4 Panel comic game. This year we had three graded games, though!
ZV Trivia -
A ZV Carnival classic, run by me, the ZV Trivia tests our members on how much of ZV's customs, traditions, and history they really know! Every day of the Carnival a new question was asked, increasing in difficulty every day until the final days asking difficult questions that practically require you to be a veteran ZV member to answer!
And the winner is... Swim!
Swim's obviously done his ZV homework, so he's earned a ZV Badge;
SCORES:
Scavenger Hunt -
Another one of ZV's classics, the Scavenger Hunt, run by Suprema and Ztrl this year, tests our members on how well they are at digging around and locating Heart Pieces! However, if you're really good, you may find a full Heart Container, gaining 4 points for the price of 1!
And the winner is... Scarlet!
Good job finding all those Heart Pieces, you're the first to wear our new Scavenger Hunt badge;
SCORES:
Dissidia Duodecim Cloister of Trials -
This year we decided that since we couldn't do a Dissidia Tourney, we'd use the quest maker to do a Cloister of Trials; a series of challenges we'll be scored on. Xero did a great job putting those challenges together, as well as grading all of them.
And the winner is... Tony! Technically he and I tied, but we didn't have time to do the tie breaker, so I'm giving it to him since he completed it first.
Congrats Tony, you get our first Dissidia badge;
SCORES:
Contests
Finally, our contests! Where our members use all their creativity to create something for us, and our panel of judges scores each of their entries. These don't usually get a great deal of activity, but we got a fair amount of entries this year! Let's start with our smallest contest and work our way up...
Writing Contest -
Our writing contest! Where our members were asked to write a game review! We used to do creative writing, but it wasn't until we started doing game reviews that this contest started getting attention. Though not much, we only had two entries this year!
And the winner is... Peytral!
Good job Peytral! You get a Writing badge;
SCORES:
Spriting Contest -
Next up is our spriting contest! Where ZV's spriters were asked to sprite us up something nice, any style they wanted! We didn't get much here, just slightly more than the writing contest with a whopping 3 entries!
And the winner is... Reaver!
Congrats! You get our Spriting badge;
SCORES:
Art Contest -
And last but not least, our art contest! Which actually saw a great deal of activity this time around! We got way more entries than the other contests, I was very pleased!
And the winner is... Sunny!
Congratulations, Sunny, you've won our Art badge;
SCORES:
And that's it, everyone! I really hope you all had as much fun participating in the carnival as I did running it, if not more so! It's always a pleasure to celebrate ZV's birthday with you guys!
Until next year, everyone!

<Tony> Barely any spelling or grammar errors to speak, I think you only misspelled one word, and properly double spaced. However, while it did get right to the point and was a decent review, it was a pretty dull read. I suggest spicing it up next time, make it a bit more interesting.
<Nightmare> You are just a gigantic troll. Not bad, though I can't say I really wanna play the game.
<Fann> A decent review. Could have been more descriptive. Commended for first time effort.
<Xero> Overall a very concise and informative review. Enjoyed the screenshots and video.

<Tony> Despite there being a few spelling errors here and there, it's still rather easy to read. It was also very while it wasn't exactly the most interesting review, it still managed to keep my attention rather well and was pretty informative. I think I might actually look into getting this game some time.
<Nightmare> I must say, you did a good job, especially for a literal last-minute entry.
<Fann> Quite good. Descriptive and a little intriguing. This is the better piece in my view.
<Xero> Very detailed, felt it explained all the key elements of the game.

<Tony> Looks good. I really like how you have at least the tip of all nine of her tails.
<Nightmare> Looks great. Colors have sort of an ethereal look to them. Porportions are dead on, easily recognizable as Ran. Those tails look great, too. Good job.
<Fann> Pretty impressive. I like this one the best.
<Xero> The blue seems kinda dull, but contrast wise it goes with the rest of the sprite so no complaint. (on a personal note, not everyone plays Touhou, so I didn't enjoy trying to figure out who this was for a reference shot)

<Tony> The angle of the head looks odd to me. Other than that, it looks fine.
<Nightmare> Very nice 32-bit rendition of Sigma. If they brought X1 to the Playstation generation he very well could have looked like that. Head looks a little thin (though it may be the angle) and the boots look a little flat, but overall good job.
<Fann> Very impressive. Pretty sure it's difficult to make that. Commended for the effort.

<Tony> Despite being an edit, it looks really good. Also, bonus for it not being as creepy as I would expect a "Miss Cloud" sprite to be.
<Nightmare> Always doing crazy stuff like that. Well for what it is, it looks pretty great. Honestly I'm surprised, I don't know where you picked up the ability to sprite like that. The boots look a little funny, probably should have reshaded the soles. Also probably should have reshaded the hand a little if you were gonna add a sleeve. Overall though I'm impressed.
<Fann> Brings back memories. Effort is somewhat commended.
<Xero> Love the shading on the dress. Boots are little too tall for what Cloud would wear, pigtails should be a bit longer too.

<Tony> While it does look great, there are some pretty obvious errors with the design some of the characters.
<Nightmare> Impressive! Drew all the event's NPCs. I see you took some creative freedom with the designs of a lot of characters, not necessarily a bad thing. Kind ot sketchy but I think it works.
<Fann> Good looking, but it feels like the other arts in your art thread are way better than this one. Need to pour more effort into this next time. Overall, in my view, 3rd best art.

<Fann> Eh ... it's a good parody of the source, but, I just don't like it overall.

<Fann> Quirky and funny as intended, and quite accurate of the respective avatar's depictions. Overall, in my view, 2nd best art.

<Tony> Damn, that's good. Only problem I have with it is it doesn't give me much to comment on.
<Nightmare> Wow, it looks like you really took your time with this one! Porportions are a little funny, and the colors are kind of dark, the darkness of the green makes it kind of hard to make out the details. It might have helped if the hair looked a little darker too? Regardless, I like it.
<Fann> It's good, but could use a more lighter overall tone. I think the claws are a little shorter than the source.
<Xero> Nice fanwork for a relatively new and unfamiliar character. Shades of green are a bit too dark and boots look a bit bulky to me, but did good on the helmet despite the sprite's vague design.

<Nightmare> This is definitely different than the kind of work we're used to seeing here. You caputured the traditional Japanese feel rather nicely. It looks more like something you'd see in a museum than a ZV Art Contest, really. Good job!

<Tony> I really wasn't expecting to see something like this in the contest. But that's not a bad thing, this is absolutely beautiful.
<Nightmare> This is definitely different than the kind of work we're used to seeing here. You caputured the traditional Japanese feel rather nicely. It looks more like something you'd see in a museum than a ZV Art Contest, really. Good job!
<Fann> Very sentimental and touching, I like it the best. Nuff said.
<Xero> Very colorful scene, and a welcome change of pace to this contest.

<Tony> It looks good... but I'm not really sure just what it is. Fire... snake... golem... thing.
<Nightmare> I'm not sure what I'm looking at here, but it's pretty awesome. Not your cleanest work but it's got a cool design, good work.
<Fann> A bit tad strange, this one. Not too bad, but not good.
<Xero> Not really sure what it is, so I don't know how accurate it is. Colors and shading are pretty good, especially on the fire.
And that's it, everyone! I really hope you all had as much fun participating in the carnival as I did running it, if not more so! It's always a pleasure to celebrate ZV's birthday with you guys!
Until next year, everyone!
