Zero Virus Carnival 2012 Results

[Nightmare]

Regrettable, absolutely regrettable! This is always the hardest thing... The last day of the Carnival, the day we have to say goodbye to it all for another year!

It's been a lot of fun, if not a little stressful! I'm sorry there wasn't more to do this year, but I enjoyed myself! We had a very successful event, lots of participation in (one of the) contests, three heated tournaments, and a couple fun games!

And now here comes the moment you've all been waiting for... The Results!

That's right, it's time to give out awards! Winners of the event, the contests, the games, and the tournaments will each receive a cute little badge to go in their profiles!

I'm going to do the results a little differently this year and put them in multiple posts, so you can jump to what you wanna see easily. So I'll just put the list in this first post.

Event: Treasure Hunting

It's time to announce the final scores for this year's event! I'm sure you're all super excited!

This year, Fate's Outriders and the Headhunters have been going toe to toe every day for the first 15 days of the Carnival, and they've put a lot of time, effort, and work into it! And boy does it show!

I was quite impressed with the participation and exhausting effort both teams put into the event. I promise next year won't be quite so taxing, so if you got burnt out playing this year, please don't let it stop you from signing up to play next year.


Anyhow, let's take a look at the current coin count for both teams!

And it looks like The Headhunters have a lead! But it's not over yet... We've got some more bonuses to tally up! And these could either make or break your shot at victory!

Think of these ones as being like the Bonus Stars that everyone hates at the end of a Mario Party game. If you have no idea what that means, then they're bonuses awarded based on some general statistics about the game played.

I'm going to be referencing these statistics.

Quite impressive, and quite close! Fate's Outriders did a lot better in the bonus department, but The Headhunter's lead on the treasures helped close the gap a lot...

And Outriders, do not fret! I'm impressed with you as well. You fought hard, and I daresay your organization and teamwork far outclassed the Headhunter's, so you've something to be proud of! It's a shame your team was so understaffed toward the endgame phase of the event, I think you could have really turned things around given a little more time and participation!

Next up are the gaming tournaments! These are always lots of fun!

This year we had three gaming tournaments: Pokemon Black/White, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, and ZV's own Battlebob! Regrettably, the Touhou: UNL tournament was canceled due to lack of participation... Oh well, maybe next year it'll get more signups and we can do it then!

Anyhow, let's move on and see our winners for the tournaments!


Pokemon -

Now let's talk about games! This is usually the smallest area of participation, but we don't usually have a lot of games, so that's excused.

This year we just had the ZV Trivia and the Scavenger Hunt! Though it's unfortunate that most of you forgot to send in your Scavenger Hunt scores! You need to be more diligent about that if you're going to break your back finding Heat Pieces!

Anyhow, let's get on with it!

ZV Trivia -

First up is the ZV Trivia game! Where players test their knowledge about our beloved ZV!

There was a smaller amount of participation this year than last, but it wasn't too bad. We had some hard questions this year though, even the more diligent players got a few wrong!

But it's time to announce the winner... The winner of the 2012 ZV Trivia game is.... Bloodbane!

Contests


Last but not least, the contests! These are probably the biggest deal in the Carnival every year as members show off their creations and see which one takes the cake!

This year we had three contests: Spriting, Art, and Writing!

The Spriting and Writing contests didn't see much action this year, but the art contest exploded with activity! I was very pleased with the turnout, in spite of some of ZV's more renounced artists failing to participate (probably because they suck.)

In any case, let's welcome our panel of judges! Xero Bloodline, Tony, and Reaver!

And if you all don't mind, let's get this show on the road!


Spriting -

The spriting contest is usually more active, but this year only had two entrants! It's a shame, but not much can be done... Maybe next year will be better!

Of the two entries, our judges sent in their scores, and after adding them up, we've come to a conclusion...!

The Art contest got lots of participation this year! I was really happy! I regret not having the time to join in myself...Hopefully next year!

There were several entries, and it was difficult to make a decision, but the judges' combined scores ended up speaking for themselves...

And last but not least is the writing contest! We rarely see a lot of participation in this one, unfortunately. But we got two entries this year, which is about the average, so hooray for that!

The contrast of the the cape that covers his shoulder doesn't match with the rest of the picture. And the arm that's holding the sword looks off. I think it's the perspective of the sword, or lack thereof.

And is it just me or did you spend more time drawing the bottles on the shelves than the characters? They seem to be the most detailed part of the picture.

It would work if the line was actually the edge of a cliff or something but the small black crosses way far in the back confirm that there is ground in there... If the character were drawn closer to the foreground this would be quite amazing. Also, it's way too blurry.

<Xero Bloodline> Sometimes I had a hard time figuring out where the narrative was coming from, whether it was first, second, or third person. But the story itself was enough to get me interested in the character, and I can tell you've put some effort into this.
<Tony> Nice story... there were a couple of errors, but nothing too serious. I'd actually like to see you complete it.
<Reaver> A few missing words and a few typos, nothing too severe... The story raises a ton of questions but answers none of them: Why is he depressed? What happened to his wife? Why does he find it so hard to go watch the play? Why are all these characters even in the story? Is Emer a ninja? Why are characters mentioned but never introduced? As an independent story, it kinda fails. However, it's like this is just the proloque, which takes place after the story has already happened, and as such it works quite well. So that's how I'm judging it!
