Zero Virus 10th Anniversary Carnival
-Friday, May 31st --- Sunday, June 23rd-
The Zero Virus Carnival has been a long-standing ZV Tradition, starting in the summer of 2006, it's been a massive, forum-wide celebration in honor of Zero Virus' birthday (June 21st) as well as a show of appreciation for Zero Virus' fantastic community.
Through the course of the Carnivals (traditionally a 2-week long event), the members of ZV partake in numerous games and events. In every single Carnival we've had judged contests for Art, Writing, and Spriting, as well as a ZV Trivia game where members test their knowledge on ZV's community and it's creative works. Another noteworthy example is the exciting and hilarious 4 Panel Comic game where members make short comics that continue off of each other. Starting in 2008, the Carnivals have also come to include a massive forum-wide game in which members are broken up into two teams and compete with each other.
Though the tradition started in 2006 (and ZV has been around since 2003), 2006 and 2007 each featured two Carnivals (one in the summer and one in the winter) as part of the experimental process of the Carnival, meaning that since then we've had the equivalent of one Carnival for every year Zero Virus has been around. This means that this year, 2013, will mark Zero Virus' 10th birthday, and fittingly we'll be having our 10th Carnival.
It will also unfortunately be the last.
In the last staff meeting we had to discuss the Carnival, we brought up the noticeably declining number of participants in each Carnival. Likewise, as the Carnival events have gotten more sophisticated, so has managing them. I alone manage the huge Carnival event each year, and it really is a great deal of work to constantly maintain. This is something I gladly do as a show of appreciation to ZV and my desire to bring fun to the community during Carnival time.
But as my time in college is nearing it's end and my life is starting to get more and more complicated, I can no longer guarantee I'll have the time or energy to manage something so big. This combined with the realization that fewer and fewer people are actually showing up for/participating in the Carnival each year, we of the staff concluded that it would be best to discontinue the huge Carnival celebrations.
This should in no way reflect poorly on the community. The fact of the matter is though we all started out as kids around here, we're all adults now, and as such we have lives and unfortunately less time for ZV. Not to say our community is dissolving, but great amounts of time can't always be put aside at once anymore. It's just an unfortunate fact of life.
So in response to this, Zero Virus is going to throw one last, huge, extravagant bash for ZV on it's 10th birthday. Zero Virus Carnival 2013 will be our biggest and best Carnival ever! We've extended the Carnival 1 week (making the Carnival now last a whopping 24 days) to not only make sure everyone has time to show up and participate, but to space out the events a little better to make them less time consuming (as they'll have more time so we can take it at a slower pace.)
I encourage everyone to be prepared to make time, to show up, to play the games and enter the contests. To spread the word and get as many ZV Members involved as you can! Make this the best Zero Virus celebration ever, to pay tribute to our great community and all we've done for each other!
Though the Carnival may cease, ZV will live on and remain strong. This isn't necessarily an end, but a new beginning. I hope to see you all at Zero Virus' 10th Anniversary Carnival!
