Greys' volley pounded against Rion's shield of light and knocked the knight back. This space was fine, he thought, between he and the light mage. Any counterattack he'd be able to muster Greys had more than enough time to react. Sure enough, a blade of light cut through the remaining missiles and scorched the vortexes from existence. Any other element would take much more pressure to wipe out those vortexes, yet it was darkness's own counter that would make the fight difficult. "Behind what?" He asked in reply, before forming a large and swelling orb of darkness in his right hand, and holding it aloft. "I don't believe you've got any idea what's going on around here!" He said before throwing the orb at Silver, rather than Rion.

Terra was hurt when Frida decided to brush her off, seeming to not hear her as she stalked back toward the ring for another shot at Arelyn. She was glad that her friend wasn't hurt, but Terra didn't exactly trust Frida not to push herself beyond her limits right now. Something wasn't right. It was probably the stress of everything going on with her father, but that still didn't explain the intensity of her attitude. Sometimes you lost, and when it wasn't a life or death battle that was okay.
After a short exchange with Arelyn Frida walked away to retrieve her weapon, then sank down to rest against the trunk of a tree. "Does she... seem alright to you?" Terra asked Arne. "I feel like she's taking this loss a little hard, we should go over and say something reassuring."
Terra would listen for Arne to respond, then start to move over toward Frida but she'd stop short when Arelyn appeared beside her. "Terra wasn't it? The field is all set up again, we're ready for you now."
Terra's attention had been focused on Aqua and she didn't immediately understand what Arelyn was asking of her. "I'm sorry, what?"
"Don't you recall asking to prove your worth as a pupil? Lady Nyharllothor has persuaded me to accept the both of you as students but now you'll need to stand for yourself. I've arranged an exhibition match against Vafiel, one of our higher level students," Arelyn said, gesturing toward a human boy with dark brown hair and hazel eyes who stood quietly next to Hien. The young wyvern sqwaked in surprise and nearly fell out of the air, apparently not having noticed him standing there. "Please don't hold anything back, I need to assess your aptitude for magic. Come, show us what you can do."

Silver had no time to react as the attack sent her down in to the ground. She would land on her back with a thud, cracking the ground below her. Still being weakened from her previous fight, she was not in the best shape to be doing this...but that didn't matter; it had to be done. She knew these fights, she had been in many...and she had a bit of an advantage, being a dark mage herself. Unless a mage was specifically using spells to attempt to control her or convert her entirely, she would have quite a bit more resistance to dark magic than other dragons would. So while this man seemed powerful, she could at least stand some of a chance. One of the few perks of her...condition. And not to mention she had Rion helping her, who she was certain would be a formidable foe for this man.
What annoyed her, though, was this man calling her a "sister". She would not associate with such evil, and detested those that would try to convert her over to the side she was fighting against.
She would try her best to stand up after a few moments, but she would not be quick enough to avoid the attack coming her way. Luckily, Rion was quick enough to shield her from the attack, protecting her from more damage.
"Ugh...yes, I'm fine. Thank you." She would reply back to Rion as he asked about her current state.
She finally managed to roll herself back over and stand up, just in time for Rion to get pushed up against her side. Silver reacted quickly and braced herself, shoving her large claws in to the ground, holding them both in place. It was a lot of force, but with his help, she was able to pull it off long enough for Rion to counter attack with a blade of light.
The man then threw an orb of darkness directly at Silver. She couldn't help but feel like he was targeting her intentionally at this point.
Unwilling to contribute to the conversation, Silver would push herself upwards with her wings to jump out of the way of the orb. She would then quickly follow up with sending forth a line of fire from her jaws aimed at the dark mage before landing back on the ground behind Rion, her teeth bared in a snarl.
All of these fights she had been in since beginning this group adventure, she had felt weak...or even worse, like an enemy herself. It would not be that way this time, even if it put her out of commission again. That "sister" comment fueled her even further.

"I've seen enough to know you need to be stopped!" Rion shouted back, convinced after seeing what happened to the child that this mage was tied to the disappearances, if not the mastermind himself. Once he was sure that Silver had cleared out and avoided the orb thrown at her, he brought the crystallized sword low to the ground, dragging it along the ground as he ran forward before slashing upward, sending a trail of rapidly-crystallizing light forward in an attempt to bring down the enemy. When Silver landed behind him, he quickly turned to her and spoke quietly.
"He's trying to keep us at range, if we can close in somehow we may have the advantage... do you think you could launch me at him somehow?" he asked, feeling fairly certain that he would be using the crystals more as cover than anything for the immediate moment. While he could try to charge forward like he had been witnessed doing in the past, he felt he would need to close the gap even faster to throw off the enemy.

“I'M BURNING, I'M BURNING, I'M BURNING FOR YOOOOOOUUUU!!!!!” As Alriik's vocals were sent back to him on stage, he felt it once more. The crowd cheering, the applause, the smiles. Took him long enough… But he was back in his Meribia. The hero had returned. He smiled widely, preparing a finale. But as his fingers returned to the strings… His mind returned to Itham. He was still on the clock, there was a legend to save. He'd take a moment to sigh, and get his head together… Before he realized he was still on stage. He'd playfully pluck a few off-key notes before looking to the guitar, then to the crowd, muttering to each other. “Whelp, looks like we ran out of music.” He'd gently put the guitar down, before standing and raising an arm. “LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, I HAVE BEEN ALRIIK OF ALTIIM, YOUR HONEST GUITARIST, YOU HAVE BEEN WONDERFUL, REMEMBER TO TIP!” The crowd would give a surge of excitement as Alriik stepped from the stage, returning to Saito and Isa.
As he approached, he seemed a bit more relaxed, if only by the calming of the environment. He'd give the two a bit of a bow before sitting down. “So, can I still play?” Isa would return his smile. “You know it.” Alriik give off a bit of a chuckle. “Can I get another drink?” Isa would nod. “Of course.” Alriik would turn to the crowd, yelling. “CAN I GET A-“ At that moment, Isa would grab the elf's long ear and twist it. “No. No rounds on the house. I will end you.” Alriik would give a bit of a chuckle, as Isa released the elf's ear and refilled his drink. He'd take a deep swig of the fire water and savored the burn.
“But um… Hey, Isa. Me and my new friend got some business to talk about. Can we get a minute?” The elderly woman would shrug her shoulders. “Just as long as you don't end up brawling again.” Alriik would give her a goofy smile. “It won't happen again. I'm about 85% sure it won't.” Isa would roll her eyes as she left to tend to other customers. “So. You got the nature witch taking the kids. Which means one of three things. Copycat, cohort, or coincidence. But we still got kids getting taken off the streets. If anything, me and you can agree that we gotta stop this, and I think we can both agree that between us, we probably got the sword swinging skills to take whatever it is out, if not alone, then with my crew. My crew, which, I will remind you, includes the daughter of one of this nation's leaders, who will be able to get you your info if you just work with me on this one thing. We gotta free Ser Itham, because he deserves it. We gotta save those kids, because they deserve it. We gotta kill whoever is doing this to these kids because they deserve it. And if you do that, my Captain will give you whatever this nation can provide because you deserve it. All I'm asking is for help on this one job. You in?”

Silver nodded in response to Rion's words. She would quickly come up with a plan.
She could launch him forward with a lightning strike to the ground, but that would probably cause collateral damage and that would be counter-productive to say the least. So instead, she would do something that would likely confuse the enemy as an added effect. Since she could propel herself forward at high speeds with lightning magic, this would be the only way to do it. She hoped to not catch Rion by too much surprise and that he would just roll with it...she didn't want to be predictable.
"Think fast." She spoke to Rion, keeping her voice quiet as well.
Silver would kneel down a bit, then quickly shove one of her shoulders against Rion's back, forcing him on to her back just above her wings. Hoping he reacted quickly enough to right himself and grab on, she would leap up in to the sky in to the clouds where they would not be visible, putting some distance between herself and the fight. She would position herself so if the man managed to see her somehow, it would look like she was aiming to dive bomb him from behind. Or maybe he would think they were running away, but she assumed the enemy would be more clever than that.
"Hold on, but be ready to let go. Be careful." She spoke quickly and quietly.
Not wanting to give the dark mage a chance to strike her down, she executed her plan. She would dive downwards, closing her wings in some to gain speed. She was on a clear trajectory towards the dark mage's back...with a slight lean to one side.
However...
Her plan was to use her lightning magic to maneuver in an erratic manner.
She would suddenly open her wings for a moment as electricity began sparking on them, stalling in the sky for a very brief moment. She then closed her wings once more and rocketed off as what could only be described as lightning-covered silver torpedo as she dashed in a very sudden directional change that would seem nearly impossible. Now, she would be heading towards the dark mage's right side instead. Before she ended her dash, she would toss Rion off her back, sending him flying towards the mage at very high speeds.
Silver would then fan her wings back out and head back up to the sky, ready to intervene if needed.

Greys watched with amusement as Silver evaded his attack- the result of which left pulverized pavement and ash in it's wake. He did feel a trickle of excitement- seeing a dragon was a rare occasion, but killing one with the same power as he was something else. Her fire breath, he could tell, was not that of Fire element but of a highly altered darkness. Was she defying her element, like some fools blessed with the power did?
As for Rion's declaration, he laughed. "Stopped?" He said, taking a more sinister tone. "Tis beyond you to stop it now."
The oncoming wave of crystallizing light demanded his attention as it drew upon him with blinding haste. "'s no ordinary light magic!" He said with surprise and a hint of concern. Both of his arms swung high as darkness flooded around him, screamed, and rose like fiery pillars that swallowed the light crystal and dark flame attacks, before lowering and revealing the mage, unharmed. With a twist of his wrist and thrust of his open palms the pillars contorted and broke into black fluid, which quickly formed together in front of the mage and rushed forth like the high tide of a fierce, violent typhoon, bearing down and threatening to swallow both Rion and Silver.
The wave would hit nothing, however, as the pair suddenly broke from the ground and disappeared above the clouds. The dark waters would disperse and fade as Greys looked above. If they were smart, they'd retreat now, but as Greys opened a portal to the clouds above, as he could, he saw it unmistakably that the pair were coming back down, likely at his blind spot. Still, he found it hard to pinpoint the dragon. This silver dragon proved their reputation as the fastest dragons alive was valid.
Greys had prepared to skewer them both on spikes as they came down. Multiple black vortexes formed on the ground once more as barbed tentacles steadily began rising from them, preparing to counterattack the pair of mages. But as they came close and they shot forth, they all missed Silver, hitting air, as she pulled a lightning fast maneuver around them, letting Rion fly unobstructed toward Greys.

Rion heard Silver's voice, before suddenly he was rolled across her back, forcing him to hang on to the limb of one of Silver's wings in order to stay steady. Suddenly, he found himself flying into the air on her back. At first, it seemed like they were moving to retreat, which if she was able to do so may have arguably been the smarter strategy, but the speed at which she descended was unlike anything he had expected, even though he recalled experiencing her speed when fighting against her. When she began using the lightning magic to speed up, it reminded him of how he had launched himself with his light powers and grinned, having more confidence in his plan.
When Silver threw him forward, Rion's markings flashed with an intense energy as he used the same forward charge to lunge forward and try to immediately close the distance. He went in with his armored side first, attempting to drive into the mage with enough force to knock the enemy off balance and force an opening, before using the momentum to hurl the crystallized light formation forward, the projectile glowing with a rapidly building energy as it left Rion's hand.

"Tch," Greys grunted as he braced himself for Rion's attack. He withdrew from his cloak sleeve a piece of silver tubing that had an unusual set of markings on it, and shielded himself directly from Rion's attack, catching it on the warrior's shoulder armor. But it was not nearly enough, as the combined effort of his and Silver's magic pushed the mage back considerably, digging into the ground before losing his footing and rolling back some meters away. Greys noticed that the wand, or rather the staff piece he carried, seemed to react oddly when it came in contact with Rion, forming similar patterns on it's surface that covered the mage's arm. Before he had time to recover, the light mage prepped and threw the crystallized energy forth at him, the mass driving itself in the ground just underneath him before erupting in a pillar of light, consuming him entirely as darkness fled from his body and burned away in the radiance.
However, he would soon walk forward from the pillar, seemingly unscathed as he stared at the two. "I will give you credit for landing what would have normally been a decisive strike.." he said, before moving forward at an unreal pace and smashing Rion down to the ground with an overhead strike of the strange staff. Greys looked down at Rion as he struggled to get up. "Though I can't call missing your opportunity to retreat a smart one. You'll find that a direct attack from my device here will leave you in a state of temporary paralysis, as strands of darkness restrain your movements from within." He watched with a sadistic grin as Rion continued to struggle, despite it's uselessness. "Before I finish you-" he would turn and glare at the dragon as she moved to defend Rion. Rays of black energy blasted from his eyes and burned holes in her wings, dropping her down in a certainly agonizing pain. "Patience, now. The elf is talking." He said with a snarl.
"As I was saying.. he said, kneeling down and grabbing Rion by the throat and lifting his head so that they were face to face now. Up close, Rion could see the deranged look on the mage's face as his magic ate away at his mind, his expressions all exaggerated as he spoke, and veins of faint purple energy that branched away from his eyes and bottom lip. He had a cold, almost lifeless stare behind blood red iris and a faint violet light from the depths of his pupils. He seemed to be wearing some kind of armor under his cloak, though besides metallic he wouldn't be able to discern any other features. "You are unusual. But I imagine you already know this." He said, waving one hand free as he leaned back. "My staff here, is also, unusual." He said, forcing the staff just in front of Rion's face before pushing it against the man's shoulder armor and then, through it, between the plates of metal. "Something odd happens when I put the two together. What are you exactly?" Greys questioned, pulling the staff from the armor and stepping back from Rion.

Meribia Lower-Quarters The Steel Rose Saito So that was the way of it. As the barkeep cleared off as requested, he began to listen to Alriik. Based on what he was saying... That mage he captured was a decoy of sorts, he had hoped it would be as simple as that but when it came to magic... He was naive to think it would end there. Even following that capture, nothing appeared to change, though there was a notable reduction for maybe a day before he caught wind of more strange occurrences. At the very least, this man and his merry band seemed to be more knowledgeable of this enemy than he was. "Who is to say who deserves what, and who doesn't. I know not these kids nor Ser Itham one bit", he took a sip from his tea taking a soft breath as the warmth went down to his chest. "Helping people has never been about justice, but kindness. Even the greatest of villains would need to be shown quarter and proper procedure. Were I a man of greater restraint, we would not be talking, nor would I be getting involved in any of this", he turned to Alriik as he put his cup upon the table, crossing his arms. A princess, yes, would most certainly have that kind of access to information... Well, perhaps princess was not an accurate title, yet still it was not technically wrong either. There was little reason to refuse, his situation did not afford him many alternatives. "But very well, if you guarantee me that, then we'll go about saving this Ser Itham", Alriik seemed a man of good character, but perhaps a bit too much of a jokester. That, may very well have or will cause him much grief. "On that note... Tell me about Ser Itham, and the circumstances he has found himself in".

Alriik would present his offer, and would sit, awaiting Saito's response, taking another swig of the old Port Town brew. However, as Saito spoke, Alriik would seem a bit… Irritated. And as he continued, Saito would keep on irritating him. 'Helping people isn't about justice, it's about kindness'? Someone should have told his father that. ‘Even the greatest villains should be shown quarter and proper procedure'. You mean the proper procedure to dealing with the greatest villains is to cut them into quarters. 'Were I a man of greater restraint, we would not be talking, nor would I be getting involved in any of this'. Well, right now, Alriik wasn't Saito's biggest fan, either.
However, soon after, Saito would finally relent, agreeing to his terms and asking about Ser Itham. He wanted to go off on a long tangent on what justice was, the importance of protecting children, and what to do with real monsters. But he would stop himself out of a combination of knowing Saito must have some solid integrity he didn't quite understand… And no one wants to be lectured on morality by a living weapon. “Alright, then. Itham Nyharllothor. He's been around since the formation of the Frontier, and was important in it's formation. Long story short, and trust me, I could make this a long story, his epic wife and him are the reason we aren't in an elven-run dictatorship.”
He'd sigh, stretching. “So, with the kids going missing, enemies IN the government have had him arrested for his failure to stop it. Dunno what you want a politician to do. And with him in jail… Well, he's less than safe.” He'd take another drink. “So, we go meet up with my team, add your info to their's, and hopefully we can figure out what's going on.” He'd stand, cracking his neck. “Let's go ahead and go meet with them. I get the feeling you're the kind of man who hates having his time wasted.” He'd stand, and give Isa a wave. “Hey Isa, we gotta step out. I'll be sure to stop by again before I head out of town… As long as I'm not rushed out cuz some giant blight spider or something popped up somewhere.” Isa would smile, and wave. “Please, don't be a stranger. Took you long enough to stop by again this time.” Alriik would chuckle, and make his way out of the bar. “But hey, good news, Mr. Saito. You'll probably like my team a bit more than me. My boy Rio-“
He would step out of the door, to a crowd running from what looked like the south. Alriik would blink, a bit confused. “… Okay. What's this fresh new hell?”

Silver would watch as the attack unfolded. It seemed as if Rion would land a good hit, but...the mage somehow managed to counter, which surprised her. She would snarl and quickly dive downwards in defense of Rion, but before she could land anything, she would be shot out of the sky with beams of darkness quite a distance away from the mage.
She landed once again with a hard thud; rolling in to the crash landing, her wings taken out of the fight...for now. She would lay on the ground, her teeth bared in a snarl, wincing from the pain of the laser and the impact.
Surely that level of pain would have taken anyone else out of a fight, but at this point, Silver was blinded with...some sort of emotion. Whatever it was didn't threaten to change her in to her blight form, but it did threaten to awaken her reckless nature which may be equally as dangerous for her safety.
Without as much hesitation as one would expect, Silver would pull herself up to her four legs. She took a few steps forward, in pain but ready to charge, but something wasn't right...the fall had aggravated her earlier hind leg injury that had not fully recovered yet. As a sharp pain shot up her leg, she scoffed.
She ignored it and roared at the mage with ferocity. It was a combination of pain and adrenaline.
The dragon would begin to charge at the mage, though significantly slower than she normally could pull off and with a limp; meaning it would take awhile for her to reach the mage. She had to do something to help Rion. Anything. She would not lose another person she cared about to a dark mage, not this time. She wasn't even sure what her plan was at this point, but that didn't matter.
It was a desperate attempt.

Meribia Lower-Quarters The Steel Rose Saito The look of slight disdain was evident upon Alriik's face, yet Saito paid no mind. He had his own misgivings it seems, it was not much unlike those he had worked with, who had such opinionated approaches to situations and circumstances. Regardless, he listened on, the impression he got was this man they were to rescue was one of good nature, and would be of help to their cause. Though, based on what he's hearing, it'd be best to hide the fact that he's free should they rescue him, at least until they find solid proof that he isn't complicit in the rampant disappearances. He simply continued to drink his tea as he listened further, it seems that was the general gist of it, but it didn't sound like a plan... How were they going to execute this rescue mission? He reserved comment on that for now, as he assumed the rest of this man's team would have more brains than him in regards to something like that. Before he could say another word they were both cut off by what appeared to be a sudden buzz of excitement and noise behind them. While all others may have moved to it, he simply finished his tea, of course, whatever was happening was of interest to him, but such unnecessary excitement was of no help. "Well then, let's go see your merry band. Perhaps we'll get a glimpse of what's happening along the way", he picked himself up, tucking his katana to his belt, before heading towards the door to wait for Alriik. "Ah yes, thanks for the tea, it's been awhile since I had anything decent".

Terra stood in the middle of the field, opposite the Vafiel. She studied the boy, trying to gleam any information about him before the fight began. He was a human, and like Terra herself seemed to be a bit older than most of the students at the academy. That was good, maybe she wouldn't feel so out of place when she began her lessons. He stood a little taller than Terra, but it was hard to see his exact build underneath the loose fitting training robe he wore. Arelyn had said that he was one of their higher level students so Terra would certainly have a fight on her hands. But despite his formal education Terra felt confident that she had more practical fighting experience, and for Frida's sake she was determined not to lose.
"So is it normally your job to test incoming students?" Terra called out to Vafiel. The boy looked at her but made no response. He might not be as much of a talker as Arelyn had been, or maybe he just hadn't heard her over the excited chatter of the crowd that had gathered. Even though the main event that had been Aqua vs Arelyn was over there was still quite a large group here to watch them compete. It was a familiar sensation like being back in the fight pits and Terra was filled with energy. "Let's do this!" she shouted, amping the crowd and herself up even further.
A bell rang out signaling the start of the match, Terra danced back and forth throwing out a barrage of fireballs as Arelyn had in the match before. It seemed a good way to assess her opponent's capabilities. She attempted to manipulate the trajectory of her fire the way Arelyn had when she'd caused them to circle around Aqua and attack her backside, but that was a technique Terra had yet to learn and those fireballs went wide of her target. In response Vafiel drew from his sleeve a number of small pellets and scattered them in front of him. Moments later a number of plants sprouted up, flowers, thorny briars, and some sort of thick gourd which absorbed the fire balls for the nature mage.
How interesting, Terra thought. She'd never fought a nature mage before, but it was good to know that there were some who could fight and that they weren't all soft as Alriik had described the scientists in the crystal forest lab. Terra grinned, assuming that he'd be at a disadvantage against her fire magic. She brought her hands together and conjured a stream of fire which she swept across the field to burn down all of the plants Vafiel had grown. Before long she'd left a flaming scar across the field and the air had filled with smoke. It was difficult to see Vafiel on the other side of the pyre but he was definitely smirking. Terra didn't realize it at the time but the fire had caused several plants to open their seed pods and and spill into the soil below. Moments later the brown dirt would shift to green as new plants began to sprout. Terra responded with spurt after spurt of flame but she couldn't seem to burn them quickly enough!
Then from nowhere a vine wrapped itself around her ankle and pulled her down. Terra cried out in alarm but quickly recovered, engulfing her hands in flame and tearing the plant apart. She scrambled to her feet but more vines were coming her way. If this were a cave or anywhere but a grassy field she'd use her skates to evade but her options here were more limited. Terra studied their trajectory and rolled out of the way of the first vine, bathing it in flames. Then she turned and released a series of fireballs but only managed to singe the other vines, it seemed they needed consistent exposure to flame before they'd burn. In desperation Terra erected a wall of stone to protect herself but as she maintained her barrier cracks slowly began to form. Like dandelions sprouting up through concrete the vines suddenly burst through and constricted themselves around Terra. She lay on her back now with arms and legs pinned to the ground and looked around for Vafiel.
As it turned out the nature mage had never even moved from the spot he'd started in when the match had begun. Only now he was seated on some sort of tangled throne of flowers and other twisting plants, his hands buried deep in the mess of foliage and manipulating his vines from the other side of the pyre in the center of the arena. The mass of plants began to rise higher giving him a better view of Terra on the other side of the field. More of his vines began to coil around the girl, enveloping her and pushing her deeper and deeper into the earth. Soon there was no longer any sign of Terra, just a patch of flowers marking the spot she had been.
Then all at once she was gone. Vafiel's vines seemed to clutch at nothing and he could no longer sense the girl. This didn't make any sense, he had complete control of the field, he could sense each individual blade of grass as they shifted in the cool breeze, and yet somehow the girl had vanished. His vines slithered like snakes through the grass looking for any sign of where she had gone but he could find nothing.
Deep below the soil Terra lay embedded in a pocket of earth. Somehow the ground had swallowed her up like the feat that Yung Fueg had performed in his ring of doom, but unlike the sumo Terra wasn't sure how to maintain the liquid-like form and swim through the earth. She reached out and focused but the stone remained stubborn and hard. Fortunately, Terra already knew that however solid a rock might seem that her will was even stronger. She'd power through this just like she'd overpowered the Eulene mountain. Heat and pressure began to build, sweat pouring down Terra's face as she concentrated with all of her might.
The crowd of onlookers gasped as the ground split open and Terra rocketed high into the air. Vafiel followed her ascent until the girl eclipsed the sun, forcing him to avert his eyes. With the heat of the sun at her back Terra raised both hands and channeled an enormous fireball. From the ground it looked as though she held the sun itself between her hands. Terra raised her payload over her head and hurled it down towards Vafiel's throne. The nature mage quickly erected a canopy of plants but it wasn't nearly enough. This time the fire had a different reaction with the plants, several of the flowers closest to Vafiel exploded in a shower of pollen and the nature mage was thrown several yards away.
Terra landed back on the field in dramatic fashion, rolling to a stop. When she got to her feet the crowd of students erupted into wild cheering, she'd apparently made quite the impression. Terra smiled and waved to Frida and Arne before turning her attention toward Vafiel who lay unconscious in the dirt on the other side of the field. By the time she crossed over to the nature mage several other students had helped to move him onto a stretcher and were getting ready to carry him away. "What happened?" she heard him ask. He sounded disoriented and unsure of what was happening now, and after an attack like that a little grogginess was understandable. "He'll be okay right?" Terra asked one of the students who'd been helping him.
"He's going to be alright," Arelyn responded from behind her. "This is a mage academy, battles like that are commonplace and we have the best healers anywhere standing by to take care of our students." She walked around to stand in front of Terra. "You've given me a lot to think about. You've got quite a bit of fire in you but it's raw and uncontrolled. You've never had any kind of training before now?" Terra shook her head, "I never had the opportunity, I'm self taught." Arelyn considered. "It's important to have mastery of the basics before showing you more complex techniques, I'm going to start you in our beginner course and we'll take things from there." Arelyn handed Terra a bit of parchment listing the date and times for her courses. "Don't be late," the elf told her. "Oh don't you worry about that," Terra assured her. "I've been looking forward to this."

"Maaaan... what are we gonna do about those explorers? Think they'll call it quits and go home after a while?"
A pair of travelers meandered through the Eastern Sector of Meribia, seeming to go nowhere in particular. The man who spoke looked over at his partner, a woman whose flame-colored hair contrasted sharply with her emerald eyes, though she simply shrugged her shoulders, looking around curiously. "They're probably still going to try to dispel that crystal barrier. They seemed to act an awful lot like the folks at that research station, and didn't they say they had already been studying the caves in the area for weeks? Don't think these are folks you're going to be able to wait out."
A grumble came from the man, moving a hand through a head of short cut hair that appeared to be white on top, but there was a darker layer of hair underneath, giving him a somewhat distinct appearance. "Yeah, yeah... too many questions, not enough answers. I guess if nothing else, at least we know that what's behind the barrier hasn't been swiped yet. If it really is part of the Rod, then maybe it's best left there?"
"You know he would want us to try and secure it, before someone else comes along." The woman frowned, though soon tilted her head curiously as a sound brought her attention from the south. "... That's... odd. Did you hear that, Luke?"
The man shook his head. "I know my senses have perked up a bit since we've become partners, but they're still not gonna hold a candle to a dragon's... what's up-- eh?" It had taken a second longer for him to pick up on it, but soon he scratched his head, blinking a couple times as he heard the faint rumbling of thunder in the distance. "Not a cloud in the sky, either. Definitely not the weather... Magic, probably? Supposedly there's some well known academy in this city somewh--..." he stopped mid-sentence as a more visible oddity appeared, in the form of a pillar of light that erupted from near the southern edge of the eastern part of town. Something was going on over there, and it definitely wasn't normal.
"Hey Ember... you don't think that's gonna become our problem, do ya?" Luke looked on for a few seconds before looking back to Ember, who continued to stare southward.
"That light's intense... could it be?" Ember looked over at Luke before crossing her arms, a slight smirk forming across her lips. "I don't know~ the boss did say if we looked around these parts long enough we'd likely find the guy we're looking for. Now how pissed do you think he'd be if one of our own was in trouble and you were too busy looking for a grave to rob to do something?"
Luke's eye twitched as he glared at his partner, speaking through clenched teeth. "Treasure hunters, Ember. We. Are. Treasure hunters..." He sighed deeply as Ember laughed, knowing he would pick up the hint through her teasing. They were in the Frontier for a couple different reasons; not only were they on the lookout for certain things, but certain people as well. "But if that light came from them, then that means they're-- Ahh crap..."
