I won't chose either answer, but I will state this. From what I have seen from others, and my own personal experience, dating someone you were fairly close to as a friend usually doesn't end well.

Holy crap, the same thing happened to me not too long ago, 2 of my friends were going out, then they broke up. But they got over it, even though the boyfriend is still kinda nervous when all 3 of us are together.

Stuff is starting to get better, slowly. We are all gonna see each other soon, in a few days. I dont think it will ever be the same though, and if it is, not any time soon

I dated one of my close friends. Although we ended up breaking up cause it was too wierd, since we were friends for so long, we're still friends. I'd say it depends really. If you're ready to start thinking of each other as lovers instead of friends, then I think it's a good idea, since I always thought your lover should be like a best friend to you. But, if you do break up in the end, and can't remain friends after that, then either A) One of you majorly screwed up, or B) Your friendship wasn't that strong to begin with.

I'd say only date a close friend if you're both prepared to think of each other as lovers, and if not, don't complicate or even spoil a good friendship.

Well...personally...i don't know which answer to post as an answer..but here goes.

If you're super close to a girl friend, it's a matter of feelings. Some may just simply date for the fun of it and get into the worst ending ever, OR some may want to understand each other as good as they can get and end up as a couple.

It all depends on each individual's thoughts though. But to me, it's pretty hard to earn an opposite-sex friend, which is close and won't misunderstand you for those relationship stuff. Stay safe and stay out of unwanted bad endings!
