Ok this is the first thing I've ever tried to do so be gentle with it, I need constructive criticism. I don't have photoshop at home so I did this in school, is there a better way to sprite?

actually, MS paint is one of the best to make sprites in. sofar though, 1- it's still at recolor level 2-the gray is flat 3- you missed a spot on the left leg this here is a tutorial for some begining sprites. including some parts with photoshop gamecheetz.com/MegaHelp.php?comic=00but look at this one ok. It tells how to do recoloring simply in paint. Trust me, this makes it 10000x easier gamecheetz.com/MegaHelp.php?comic=01Right now though, forget about one. recolors are the best way to learn how to sprite. You seem to be making good progress for begining. and it does look a hell of alot better then my first attempt at a sprite. Also, may I suggest praticing with recoloring a MM7 style megaman, just to get the gist of it. (because spriting in the 32 bit is 10x harder then in other styles)

Or .gif It's what i use for my comics and those are some good sprites Swim Stop lieing to him. Lieing isnt going to help him get any better. Strongbad your sprites need major work. For starters try not using Zero as a base just yet. Try using X since he is alot more plain and easyer to edit. Then what you want to do is try adding stuff to him like a differnt chest or shoulderpads and a new legdesign. After all that stuff is over and done then recolor him. Save a .PNG also.

Well hold up, don't tell him to do all that stuff just yet. Once he masters recoloring, it'll be time to move on to edits. First of all, always either save your stuff as a .bmp or a .png And you're coloring everything one shade. The shadeing is doesn't look right that way. You need to put some actual shadeing in there by recoloring all of the shades of color a different shade, as opposed to making it all the same color. Keep it up, in time and with enough practice your stuff will look better than mine.

Which really isn't that hard. XD! Swim, take NMMZ's advice and try recoloring a bit. There's a few good spriters around here that'll help you with it. And X is an X-cellent (bad pun... >.> way to start spriting.

Frozt, I never wanna see you giving spriting advice again. I shouldn't have to explain why....
Everybody's giving you sound advice, so listen to it. Make sure you count up the shades on your sprite when recoloring, and you need a new shade for every old shade. Doing this in paint is possible, you just gotta make a few custom colors.
I've said this to at least one other person, but if you can ever find me on MSN I'll try to give you some better pointers. That goes for just about everyone, but I make no promises.

Not bad, you're getting the hang of it, but it's resized. That's bad. Either leave it at it's original size, or select it and right click, then in Strech/Skew Set the horizontal and Verticle Strech options to 200 to get a 2X Zoom on your sprites.

Other than resizing that badly, you think I've got recoloring down?
edit: and which one has better coloring?

Ok I've come to a decision. The dual saber zero sprites are going to be the base of Jet if I ever make a comic. I don't know what color I want him to be yet though. And here... is Tank. Its a recolor of a sprite our very own Bossman let me use. Again, I'm not sure this is the color he'll be but this is the model that I'm going to use.
