This just in: the new Pokémon games will be called Pokémon Black and Pokémon White, and are set for for release on the Nintendo DS sometime this year. According to the games' Japanese Web site, we'll be getting more info on this situation on April 15th. Source: www.pokemon.co.jp/bw/index.html

Yeah, but they're remakes, not all new games.
Haters gon' hate, but this is awesome news to me. XP
EDIT: New images on Serebii.net. Pretty major graphical change. Not sure how much I like it, but it's better then Fire Emblem's "upgrade" to 3-D.

Sometimes I wish game developers would just understand that they had it right and stick with sprites. :/ Ruined Fire Emblem for me when they went 3-D, but I guess this doesn't look too bad. At least they still use sprites for battle.

Yeah, gotta agree with Ruin. 3d didn't add anything to Fire Emblems gameplay, the only thing it did was force FE to jump from handheld to console for a while. >:/ Same for Pokemon... And the 2d graphics looked better as they didn't have distortion!
Bottom line, if the game doesn't need to be 3d. DON'T TRUCKING MAKE IT 3D!

SMH... Yeah I want but let's be honest, the things they SHOULD do are.
Stick to sprites and just add more animations (eg. each pokemon has damage, physical attack, special attack, and a block/evade animation)
A REAL gameplay difference. They needa do trainer types, even base it on the Pokemon special manga. eg.
Trainer - better @ battles, beats game by taking on the gyms in all 5 regions, the league, battle frontier etc
Breeder - only one capable of pokemon breeding, think of it like the merchant class in an mmo, they can make the strongest (statistically) pokemon for battlers, as well as doing those contests/pokethlon etc
Catcher - Gets access to the custom pokeballs (and can make them), improved catching, easier to find rarer pokemon etc. aim of the game is to complete the pokedex's etc
Something like that where there's a real difference between versions, and necessitates interaction. You get the trainer who needs the Breeder to get powerful pokemon to train, the breeder needs the catcher to get the rare pokemon to breed, and the catcher needs the trainer to have powerful enough pokemon to catch the rare ones etc.
STOP ADDING MORE FRICKING POKEMON!! IMPROVE THE CURRENT GAME STOP ADDING MORE

Alter, I really don't want to say this... but that is a horrible idea. That's way too many changes and could potentially send the entire series crashing into the ground.

Honestly, if they did it right, a 3D pokemon main series game would rock. It'd essentially be Pokemon Colosseum+Battle Revolution+All main series games ever. I say this because I loved the way you could customize your trainer in PBR, and want to see it in a main series game. Colosseum was incredibly fun too, albeit there weren't any random battles like in the main series. I honestly see not a single reason not to go full blown 3D for a main series pokemon title.

I mean, that pic looks a little pixelated, but as long as the core gameplay remains intact, I wouldn't care.
