Pokemon X and Y

This might be it... the final big batch of news before release. Lets get this started.

We got an updated type chart for this gen (PDF)... Fairy is weak to Poison and Steel... resists Fighting, Bug, and Dark... is immune to Dragon... is strong against Fighting, Dragon, and Dark... and is resisted by Fire, Poison, and Steel. Along with this, it seems that Steel is losing its resistance Ghost and Dark.

We have first stage starter evolutions.

Quilladin, the Spiny Armor Pokemon...



After evolving, Quilladin's spikes get even sturdier. But it's a gentle Pokemon that prefers to avoid battle. It can learn the Ground move Mud Shot... giving it some coverage against Fire types.

Braixen, the Fox Pokemon...



Braixen seems to keep a stick with that it will wield as a weapon. Having the stick with it also seems to calm it down. It can learn the Psychic move Psyshock... a special move that takes the target's physical defense into account.

Frogadier, the Bubble Frog Pokemon...



Frogadier will use it's agility and speed to jump quickly around the battlefield, confusing it's opponent. Then strike them with a stone wrapped in bubbles. It can learn the Flying move Bounce... a two turn move that can give it an edge against Grass types.

Other new Pokemon.

Furfrou, the Poodle Pokemon...



In ancient times, this Pokemon guarded the king of Kalos. It has the new Fur Coat ability that halved the power of physical move and can learn a Fairy type move "Baby-Doll Eyes", a priority move like Quick Attack that lowers the opponent's attack stat. It also has a weird visual gimmick... you can groom it.



I'm not sure if this actually does anything... but I guess it makes sense. It is a poodle, after all.

Meowstic, the Constraint Pokemon...



The appearance of this Pokemon changes based on gender. Not only that, but they also seem to have different move sets and roles in battle as well. The male (left) offers support, with moves such a Miracle Eye... that negates a Dark Pokemon's immunity to Psychic moves. The female (right) takes on more of an offensive role, having moves such as Extrasensory... a Psychic move that can cause flinching. Also... they seems to have eyes in their ears.



Freaky...

Tyrunt, the Royal Heir Pokemon...



An ancient Pokemon that can be revived from a Jaw Fossil. It's a selfish Pokemon, and will throw fits if it doesn't get its way. It has a new ability... Strong Jaw, that increases the power of biting move.

Amaura, the Tundra Pokemon...



An ancient Pokemon that can be revived from a Sail Fossil. You can only pick one fossil... so you're gonna have to chose between it and Tyrunt. It also has a new ability, Refrigerate... that turns Normal moves into Ice moves.

Pyroar, the Royal Pokemon...



The evolved form of Litleo, it has gained a great mane of burning flames. It can learn Echoed Voice, a move that increases in power when it is used every turn.... even if it's used by another Pokemon!

And Mega Evolutions.

Garchomp, the Mach Pokemon...



Mega Garchomp gains a boost to its offensive stats, but takes a hit in speed. It has the ability Sand Force... increasing the power of Ground, Rock, and Steel moves during Sandstorm weather.

We also got something kinda big... Mewtwo has a second Mega Evolution. It seems that the Mega Mewtwo we have seen before is actually Mega Mewtwo Y. And we now have Mega Mewtwo X!



It appears to be much larger and more muscular than Mega Mewtwo Y... gaining the typing of Psychic/Fighting. It seems both its attack stats will be getting a boost and has the ability Steadfast, making its speed raise every time it flinches.

We also seem to have info on Team Flare.

It seems that the driving force behind Team Flare are five scientists...



On the left we have Celosia, Mable, Bryony and Aliana (Going clockwise, starting at the lower left)... and on the right is Xerosic. However, their true goals seem to remain a mystery.

And like always... we end off with a new trailer...

With the games only about three weeks away... the reveals keep coming! A bit of a small one this time, showing the evolved fossil Pokemon.

Tyrantrum, the Despot Pokemon...



With its powerful jaws that could rip through slabs of metal as if it was a sheet of paper, nothing could stop this Pokemon 100 million years ago, so it made itself king of all others. It can learn the Rock move Head Smash... very powerful, but it also damages the user.

Aurorus, the Tundra Pokemon...



Aurorus is able to send blasts of freezing cold air at it's opponents. It can also do this to form a think wall of ice in order to protect itself. It can learn a new move called Freeze-Dry, an Ice move that has the odd property of being super effective against Water Pokemon, who normally resist Ice moves.

Also, it has been revealed that even if you catch a wild Pokemon... you will still gain EXP for that battle.

Doublade, the Sword Pokemon...



The two swords that make up this pokemon are able to preform complicated attacks with ease, due to their ability to communicate with each other telepathically. It is able to learn Sacred Sword... a move that, up until this point, was the signature move of the Swords of Justice legendary quartet. It's a powerful attack that ignores the opponent's buffs to evasion and defense.

Mega Charizard X...

EDIT: Ok... calmed down a bit. While I still think this is a load of crap, I'm willing to give some actual info now.

Much like Mewtwo, Charizard is now confirmed to have version exclusive Mega Evolutions. I've previously covered the now Mega Charizard Y... so no it's time for me to go over the recently confirmed Mega Charizard X. Similar to Mega Ampharos and Mega Mewtwo X, Charizard will undergo a type change when Mega Evolving to this form, becoming Fire/Dragon. It also gains a boost to it's physical attack and gets the new ability "Tough Claws", that increase the damage of physical moves.

...So I'm confused now about where you draw the line Tony. You adamantly defend Mewtwo with his butt on the back of his head. You rave about how good other Mega Evolutions are when all they've done is get a haircut. Defended Team Flare despite how dumb they looked. And before all of this you wouldn't hear a word against Sylveon. And its Charizard X that gets you angry?

I think this is better than Charizard Y, what with the color swap to his shiny pallet and some actual cosmetic changes on top of his type change. I am relatively okay with this.

It's because Charizard is so damn over rated it isn't funny. He is a mediocre fire type, at best, yet he gets so much special treatment and people act like he's the greatest thing to ever happen to Pokemon! He doesn't deserve any of that! And he sure as hell doesn't deserve a second mega evolution... especially if the other kanto starters, who are just plain better than him, only get one!

It's not a bad looking mega evolution... I'd actually be ok with it if it was just plain Mega Charizard. But seeing as that it's just Charizard getting something special, overshadowing Blastoise and Venusaur, is why I'm against it.

When, and only when, the other two get version exclusive Mega Evolutions... I will change my stance and not think that this is complete bull. But seeing as how "everyone" loves Charizard, is only fond of Blastoise, and sees Venusaur as "that one plant starter nobody picks"... I don't think it's gonna happen.

Is it confirmed to be just Charizard who gets two? I assumed that since Mewtwo also has X and Y evolutions that all Mega Evolutions came in two forms and Venusaur and Blastoise would be coming eventually.

Not all Mega Evolutions are coming in two's... and based on information from people that got the games early (yes, that did happen)... it doesn't seem like there is going to be version exclusive Mega Venusaur/Blastoise. When you get the Mega Stone for them it's just "Venusaurite" or "Blastoiseite", but with Charizard it's going to be either "Charizardite X" or "Charizardite Y" based on your version of the game.

Slurpuff, the Meringue Pokemon...



Evolved form of Swirlix. It has a sense of smell a hundred million times more sensitive than that of a human, and can detect even the faintest odors. Still looks like it has a bit of the derp, though.

Aromatisse, the Fragrance Pokemon...



Evolved form of Spritzee. It is able to give off a wide verity of different smells... from a pleasant aroma, to the foulest odor imaginable.

Ahhh I see. Tony FINALLY raging about Pokemon being dumb and the reason is he's butthurt over a Gen 1 Pokemon gettin some love.

Though I do agree that Charizard isn't so awesome that he deserves an extra mega form over Blastoise and Venasaur.

I feel like Mega Forms are a horrible idea and are only going to pound what little standing of balance these games have into the ground. Like I said in the chat the other day, I feel like if Mega Forms were permanent evolutions (like Mega Evolutions or some crap come on) and were given to Pokemon that were severely disadvantaged due to bad stats, move pools, or typing (rather than just Pokemon the developers deemed "cool") then the whole Mega Stones thing could have lead to some creative rebalancing and actually made the game interesting.

But instead it's been reduced to a retarded Super Saiyan form masturbation-fest where nerds can now violently fap to their favorite Pokemon being made needlessly awesome and giving them bragging rights over all them other nerds.

And in terms of rebalancing, consider it useless. Like Ed said the other day, they'll likely be banned from competitive play because Poke Tourney Tards aren't likely to give up their strategies revolving around held items, but are incredibly likely to piss and moan about how it's not fair that some guys have Mega Forms they can't compete with. So this Mega Form nonsense won't even be a rebalancing in favor of Pokemon with Mega Forms. It'll just be a useless novelty that no one will like once they get off their nerd boners and get it out of their systems..

Overall I'd rank this one right up there with Gold/Silver and those were my favorites. Raichu is still a badass

I haven't found that guy yet, but I do believe those are legit. There are also tons of references to Hoenn and Ruby/Sapphire, implying that we may see those remakes soon, at long last.

I only hope they shrink down the oceans a bit...
